What can I do to look better?

I’m 47 and in the last couple of years, these lines have appeared. They’re prominent even at rest and make me look grumpy and old! Any ideas for how to make them disappear?

Face Yoga will iron out those (minor!) lines, strengthen the muscles underneath and give your skin more of a glow. It was a game-changer for me coming up to my 50th. I do also now take liquid collagen and use a serum under my sunscreen.

Check out YouTube videos or this group https://www.facebook.com/FaceYogaMethod. There is a course I bought but she gives loads away for free.

Luckyingame · 19/01/2026 11:06

I'm also 47.
Stay away from men, sex, alcohol, set yourself clear personal boundaries, rest when you need to, spend time on your own with your own thoughts, whenever possible.
I don't have any sort of aesthetic advice, but I find the above helps stay looking ten years younger. For now.

ArabellaScott · 19/01/2026 11:08

OP you look absolutely fine. I wonder if its as much about coming to terms with ageing and recovering emotionally from a difficult few years as a few gentle lines on your face?

But what if you love men, sex, alcohol, pushing your boundaries and being with others?!

Asking for a friend... ;)

I'm the same age but look younger with good skin (that sounds twattish but true)

I agree with the last three points on your list but have a very busy sex life (but have little time for men in general apart from the ones I've birthed) and enjoy moderate drinking 😂

CrackingOn50 · 19/01/2026 11:17

Saying that, I'd recommend hydration, sleep, collagen, an excellent science based skin care routine, microneedling, LED masks, HRT (if applicable), botox, dragons' blood serum, decent makeup and generally looking after yourself.

I'm your age and give less fucks now though about shit that I used to be bothered about thanks to divorce and perimenopause.

Bluedenimdoglover · 19/01/2026 11:23

Fringe or Botox.

Well, I guess your friend has to do what works for them! 😆

Salyexley · 19/01/2026 11:40

Maybe grow up

Glitchymn1 · 19/01/2026 11:40

Fringe, a blurring bb cream? Sunblock, water.

Don’t frown a lot or pull faces- some people have a lot of expression. DH has really deep 11’s as he will sit frowning for hours at his screen 😂 I purposely don’t frown or squint for this reason - if I can help it. I don’t have lines yet (maybe very faint) I’m 47.
I use loccitane immortelle cream and exfoliate with Liz Earle cleanse and polish and no7 exfoliator.

Tinyssek · 19/01/2026 11:46

Botox, microneedling, polynucleotides alongside good skincare with SPF.

NoYourNameChanged · 19/01/2026 11:47

Those lines are very much NOT prominent op, you must know that 😅 but to minimise, hydration, good sleep, minimal stress and maybe a spruce up of your hair. All the things we all want I guess!

Sunshineandrainbows23 · 19/01/2026 12:09

Yes, I was going to suggest these too! I often use them at night on no 11 lines as I have a bad habit of sleeping with my face scrunched into the pillow so I wake up looking really grumpy. :) They do help. You can also use them before a special occasion. I also like Smoothies which are similar.

Be kind to yourself. You've been ill and skin and hair usually take a bit of a battering from personal experience. I found hydrating well and green juices and smoothies worked wonders. A mix of nutrition and the water just helps plump everything out.

You are beautiful and don't forget that ❤️

Mosaic80 · 19/01/2026 12:17

If you want to go with nothing invasive, I'd try tretinoin. I use skin&me but dermatica also do similar - you get a daily dose with skin&me that dispenses an amount each day that you apply in the evening and they will increase the tret % slowly and also put in other active ingredients like niacinimide. I'd then have a fairly minimal routine - a hydrating serum (I like hado labo gold serum) and a basic moisturiser (I use cerave), a bit of castor oil on the lines. Maybe also do some facial massage (there are free videos on facebook/youtube).

Tret is a longer term thing but along with lots of hydration should make your skin look the best that it can. I know people say that nothing except botox etc can reverse 11 lines but having used tretinoin and lots of hydrating products, the quality of my skin and appearance of my lines looks much better. I'm 46.

Edited

This a million times

I do Botox for my 11s ( not forehead ), but face yoga for cheeks, jowls and forehead, I’m transformed, but do this daily !

ForeverAndEverCheese · 18/01/2026 18:44

I’m a bit scared of Botox! I’m worried about looking fake, and also just because I have lots of allergies and reactions to meds etc, that I’m worried it could go wrong!

I’m a similar age and feel like ageing really starts to kick in by the mid forties. I’ve looked younger all my life (baby faced).

idontknowhowtodreamyourdreams · 19/01/2026 12:37

Botox. I have been having it for about 18 months now (am 46) and it has made a big difference. Find someone who really knows what they’re doing; what I love about mine is that it looks quite natural, I still have movement etc.

Other than that, hydration, sleep, good diet (am shit at these)

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 19/01/2026 12:39

I have similar, also was scared if botox. So I got a fringe - it's great! 😂

Hotchocolateandmarsh · 19/01/2026 12:42

A good facial / peel and creams along with using frownies at night. I started to notice by 11 lines more in the morning as I slept funny and definitely frowned in my sleep. I now use a frownie and it’s helped loads to stop them being so prominent in the morning.

LaddersAndLadders · 19/01/2026 12:44

Your skin looks fine and absolutely normal for your age, looks a bit dry that's all.

I don't like the botox or that shiny look some have at all but each to their own.

If you really don't like your forehead get a fringe or also look at a few gua sha tool before and after massages.

A good serum is a start- i have noticed a huge diferencije since i started with it
Good reports on this one but its expensive
Dermalogica Phyto Nature E2
Dermalogica Phyto Nature E2 100ml | LOOKFANTASTIC
I have just started using it but was using clarins double serum, a good eye cream too. SPF every day as part of your routine
A good night serum or use the one you use in morning again
Look at making sure get good rest, sleep and eat well, get out for a walk
I know people will disagree with me, but a good haircut and colour also takes years off you - i think grey hair can be so aging
The LED face masks are worth it but you need to be consistent - if you dont use it every couple of days dont invest

I’m 10 years younger and have lines on my head, I don’t dare do Botox because I have reactions to stuff so often injecting stuff in to me don’t seem wise. have thought about getting a fringe cut in..for now I’ll just carry on x

Moveyourbleedingarse · 19/01/2026 13:57

Hi OP. I don't know about botox etc. But I had a horrible year with lots of surgery and I found I needed to be very indulgent with myself.

Lots of very thick cream and face oil at night. Lots of water.

And echo a PP, (and please know I wouldn't comment on this if you hadn't asked about your lines!) that you could have your eyebrows tidied up which would minimise your general negative vibes when you look in the mirror!

fiorentina · 19/01/2026 14:30

I use a combination of Botox just on my 11s, LED mask - I have the shark one, lots of water for hydration and lots of moisturiser. I like Elemis pro collagen but also use a basic Superdrug hyaluronic acid.

I also find that not drinking alcohol helps my face look a lot less tired and the more I exercise the more of a glow I have.
