My lips are a mess. They are dry and flaky constantly. The skins so thin that I am in a cycle of flake heal flake.

what are your absolute lip balm or mask holy grails. I have tried laneige mask. I regularly use nivea lip balms, bliskek, Vaseline.

nothing is helping.

Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream is the Rolls Royce of all lip balms.

mamakoukla · 16/01/2026 21:01

Another vote for Elizabeth Arden 8 h cream. Also extremely good on chafed noses (when you’ve got a cold; put some on at bedtime). I use it as a general purpose whatever needs incredible moisturizing - nail cuticles in winter, dry skin patches. Never been without this stuff since I first bought some in the 90s

Blistex relief cream (used to be blisteze) is the only thing that fixes mine when they’re very dry. It’s a strong ammonia formulation that sinks in. Anything else just feels like I’m putting grease on my lips - fine for keeping them soft but not for getting them there. Stay very hydrated too. When I started breastfeeding my lips were a complete mess because I wasn’t drinking enough. A few days of the cream fixed them and staying hydrated has kept them in good shape.

You want the Nuxe Reve de miel lip balm in a pot. I have tried everything recommended and this is the best.

My lips were cracked and bleeding one winter and I was in so much pain, posted on Mumsnet and bought pretty much everything that was recommended. This was the winner and I am never without it now.

Nuxe Reve is the absolute best but only the pot, not the stick.

This one is the absolute best ever lip product I have ever tried and I've been through LOADS.

I use it on my nose when I have a hideous cold too and it stops the redness and peeling.

I'm a big fan of topping this up with Ole Henriksen Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment in Strawberry Sorbet in the daytime to continue the softening with a nicely pigmented lip tint.

I don't use lipbalms, as they sell on the basis you need to use them, so proves to me they don't make it better, but mask an issue and dermatologists say they have some nasty ingredients. I don't have dry lips, even in cold weather, so the body seems to sort itself out effectively without them.

Balm - Elizabeth Arden. Mask - Laneige.

BlueberryPancakes17 · 16/01/2026 21:30

Aquaphor is brilliant for chapped lips. Also don’t use Carmex, the menthol is awful for lips

StabbyCat · 16/01/2026 21:34

Blistex in the tiny tube with a red lid. Can’t beat it.

You are basing this on a sample of one.

Eucerin Acute Lip Repair is the only one I will use now.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Bit ££ but lasts for ages

This is a game changer for lips and any dry skin. I swear by it!

Absolutely agree. It's fab!

I like this one from Smallwood Bees.

Mummify · 16/01/2026 21:53

Burts bees peppermint lip balm. The only lipbalm worth having.

Bougainsillier · 16/01/2026 22:02

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour intensive repair overnight… in a pot.. and the 8 hour balm… like a lipstick all day.

I dislike pots and tubes during the day unless I can wash my hands pre application.

Thunderpants88 · 16/01/2026 23:07

My friends and I all use lanshioh nipple cream. It is magic on cracked bleeding nipples and works even better on lips. My daughter would get really really dry flaky lips in winter one or two nights with this applied before bed and it’s healed up in no time.

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/01/2026 23:09

Blistex rapid relief cream - amazing stuff

Jugendstiel · 16/01/2026 23:23

The Japanese version of Nivea honey stick lip balm. The UK one has different ingredients and is not as good. The Japanese one gives instant relief, softens lips and lasts , even after drinking or eating. Worth paying extra to have it shipped over.

Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream is the Rolls Royce of all lip balms.

Just the normal cream? Or is there a lip balm version?

I have the tub of kind of orangey stuff for night time use, and also a day version which I got for Christmas.

didn’t realise there was day and night versions so wondering if there is also a lip version

Secretseverywhere · 16/01/2026 23:35

There is something in lots of lip balms that doesn’t agree with me. Starts the whole flake, heal, repeat cycle. I really like moo goo which is made from almond oil and a bit of zinc oxide for spf. At night I just put a couple of drops of neat almond oil on (chemist sells it)

I second this. I love it so much. I keep buying it as gifts for people ☺️

BruisedNeckMeat · 16/01/2026 23:57

I used to be addicted to lip balm and would be quite panicky if I didn’t have one to hand. I tried everything going.

I don’t know what finally made me do it but I went cold turkey and allowed my lips to heal naturally, keeping well hydrated. My lips were SO much better after a while. I rarely use it now.

roadrunnerbeepbeep · 17/01/2026 08:29

Antibodes lip conditioner is the absolute best. Got a tiny one free in a hotel a year ago and it's brilliant

dudsville · 17/01/2026 08:41

Another vote for Elizabeth Arden 8 hr, but not their lip balm in a pot . I haven't tried that. And not their chapstick thing in lipstick shape, tried it and didn't like it. My favorite is the nighttime miracle balm mentioned upthread. It's not marketed specifically for lips, but like their other 8hr balms, they can be used anywhere for anything. Before I discovered this I loved Carmex, but one holiday I forgot it and only had the EA8h, I realised I could apply this once and go all day, as opposed to frequent applications of Carmex. Hormonal fluctuations used to do a real number on my lips, it's calmed down in menopause. When I had the monthly flare ups is so a gentle exfoliate in the shower, just face balm cleanser with a warm flannel, followed by lip balm. Good luck to you op.
