Foundation sliding down my 50 year old face..

In desperate need of advice. I’ve faithfully used It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Oil Free Matte Poreless Finish for years but all of a sudden it looks orange, blotchy and caked on me. I’m 52, menopausal with combination skin, some redness on my cheeks and pores and oil on my nose. I’m thinking it’s time to switch to a tinted moisturiser specifically for mature skin. Does anyone have any recommendations? I went shopping last week and was recommended Clinique Even Better Foundation, over their tinted moisturiser but it looks slightly yellow, settled terribly in fine lines and by midday had slid off my nose and settled in pools in my pores. So attractive!

I found the exact same thing happening to me, so I went to boots and bought Maybelline Grippy serum and Maybelline Superstay foundation. (I think some of the youtube makeup women must have recommended them). Neither cost the earth and it's working so far.

Erborian (as often recommended on MN). If you use the gingseng primer first and then the CC cream it should work well.

That’s quite orange in my opinion

Tortephant · 07/01/2026 17:23

If you can, I’d go somewhere like SpaceNK and get some specific advice.

if your foundation is sliding off your face this is a skincare issue eg wrong moisturiser rather than than necessarily your foundation.
also, your skin needs different depending upon weather. I’m 50 and change foundation/tinted moisturiser accordingly

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/01/2026 17:23

Another recommendation for Eborian. I use a mix of Nude and Clair and nether are orange. Very forgiving and natural looking.

Twattergy · 07/01/2026 17:38

Agree that skin prep (super clean and moisturised) is as important as the foundation itself. Also how you apply may affect this. Are you using fingers or a brush? I think a proper foundation brush application helps. Also fixing spray over the top could assist w adherence. Nothing wrong with seeking a new/better foundation either tbh.

Dilysthemilk · 07/01/2026 17:44

Thanks all. I use a primer (It Cosmetics Oil Free Primer), a little powder (IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Translucent Powder) and a setting spray. I wash with Khiels Ultra Face Wash and moisturise with their Super Multi-Corrective Cream. The sliding seems to happen just on my nose with the Clinique, with the settling in fine lines around my eyes. I use a foundation brush to put it on. Please keep the suggestions coming, thank you

Another vote for Erborian. I use the anti redness (green tube) CC Correct. Perfect semi-matte natural no-makeup finish. For a more made-up-yet-natural look I layer over with their BB cream.

Stringervest · 07/01/2026 17:50

The sliding on the nose can be addressed with a grippy primer OP. I’ve always used a grippy primer on my nose. I use a tiny amount and the tube lasts for years.

for foundation Ive been using Revlon Colorstay for literally decades. It’s invincible when combined with the primer. However, I’m now in my 40s and styles have changed and I want something more sheer and forgiving. My skin is similar to yours so I’m watching with interest.

I'm in my early sixties and stopped using foundation a few years ago. I have good skin and now just want a very light coverage. I use Chanel Les beiges water tint which is very very light but really does improve the look of skin.

I'm also having a nice result with a free gift I got when I bought skincare from Estée lauder direct( I joined their loyalty scheme and get excellent gifts and samples), which is their day wear tinted moisturiser, I use it on top of my usual moisturiser as my skin is quite dry, but it gives a nice light finish in a good colour.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 07/01/2026 19:04

@Tortephant

Maybe you are using Dore? Clair is not at all orange and I'm always on high alert for orangeness; I suppose as a Korean brand it is unlikely to be particularly orange. There's also porcelain but that looks really pale.

BurntBroccoli · 07/01/2026 19:10

I use Superdrug factor 15 moisturiser followed by Revolution foundation. Gives a nice dewy glow. I got some Clinique moisturiser for Christmas and find my foundation is very patchy using that.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 07/01/2026 19:10

I am paranoid about nose-sliding. I have found that avoiding moisturiser and just using a hydrating toner like Byoma is good for the daytime. And then using a really good moisturiser at night.

Alternatively if you can't bear not to use moisturiser in the day Bobbi Brown vitamin primer moisturiser is non-greasy. Let it sink in for 5 minutes or so before putting make up on.

Fine lines round the eyes is all about application. Use the Roc Vitamin C eye balm. Let it sink in. Be really sparing with concealer and apply with a little brush. Then squint and relax the eye. You will be able to see the concealer that is going to sink into the fine lines. Use a little soft eye shadow brush and gently buff those concealer lines away. I sometimes use a tiny bit of the holy grail of powders under the eye, being By Terry Hydrapowder. Doesn't dry your eye or cake but be very sparing as powder under eyes isnt great past 50 Ive noticed....

Lotsnlotsoflove · 07/01/2026 22:13

I really love the nars tinted moisturiser. Best I’ve used. I do think that older/ageing skin cannot really hold foundation after a certain point, or else it seeps into the cracks/pores in an unflattering way. Having said that I do like Bobbi Brown’s stick foundation not all over but just in areas that need a bit more coverage. I have oily skin.

TeaRoseTallulah · 07/01/2026 22:15

Take the. Clinique back- they're good at returns and get a lipstick or something else. Then do to the Estee Lauder counter and get matched for Double wear Sheer, doesn't shift!

Christmaseree · 07/01/2026 22:16

I’m 56 and I have only started using foundation, I use a No 7 one and am happy with that. I haven’t noticed any nose sliding.

Pillypolly · 07/01/2026 22:21

I am 50 and use tinted moisturiser rather than foundation. It didn’t cover lines etc, but it makes me look fresh with a bit of glow. I rate No7 and Trinny London.

2026isgoingtobemyyear · 07/01/2026 22:39

Laura Geller baked foundation is quite good for mature skin especially for redness and being powder is slip resistant.

MakeMineStrong · 07/01/2026 22:56

I’ve started using Laura Geller and really like it. I chose the wrong colour when I ordered and they simply sent a new one in a better colour.

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/01/2026 23:07

I ditched foundation for tinted moisturiser. Game Changer. Another vote for Erborian, it’s awesome. I like the CC cream in Clair. The BB cream is too thick for me, I use the CC cream, with a bit of concealer - currently Huda Beauty - and some powder on the T zone.

anotheruser76326 · 07/01/2026 23:10

I use Nars. It was suggested for me in space nk, and it’s been great. I also use erborian underneath, and a setting spray

I'm trialling that at the moment ,it's ok but has a very strong scent that I think will irritate my eyes with daily wear. Best CC I've tried so far though colour wise.

PonkyPonky · 10/01/2026 08:26

Same issue with liquid foundation for me. I just use primer now followed by Avons own mineral loose powder foundation. It’s very light so if you want a heavy make up finish it’s not for you but it looks great and doesn’t settle into lines and pores

TheOGCCL · 10/01/2026 09:48

Tinted moisturiser for me too. Foundation often sits too heavy after a certain age though you can try sheering it out with moisturiser, Nars, Trinny, Bare Minerals or Sculpted by Aimee are my suggestions.

Pooky001 · 10/01/2026 09:55

I had the same problem with my liquid foundation. Switched to Bare Minerals powder foundation and my skin looks a lot better I think.
