Cheap but good skin care

Previously used Clarins skincare but with 2 kids and double child care costs cant afford it anymore. Recently discovered the Aldi's moisturisers and love them... so cheap! Any tips on a good facial wash, toner, eye cream, cleanser which dont cost too much.

I bought a product called bnatural facial cleanser from tescos last week for £1.50 and it seems really good. They do have other products as well, I also bought the bnatural nightcream for similar money.

woodenchair · 13/06/2008 08:35

I really like the simple product range for cleansing. Haven't used any of their moisturisers, I'm too chicken to use anything too cheap. So will watch this with interest

fifitinkerbell · 13/06/2008 11:54

I am in the same boat cant afford decleor anymore so I am using bnatural facial cleanser, toner, scrub, mask oh & the oil and my skin is great use Aldi face cream for day & the nightcream.Been using them all for a couple of months now & skin never been better.

OrmIrian · 13/06/2008 11:59

I found a nice facial scrub from Superdrug - green tube, has tea tree oil in it. NaturalHigh I think it's called.

Anna8888 · 13/06/2008 12:09

Dove bar and a face flannel for washing face in the morning.

Astra moisturiser.

Anna8888 · 13/06/2008 12:10

Astral perhaps?

OrmIrian · 13/06/2008 12:11

lol at astra moisturiser

2loudboys · 13/06/2008 18:38

I second the Dove bar & flannel thing. Amazingly enough I have sensitive skin but it's OK, 'cos apparently it was developed to use on the skin of burn victims during WWII.

AmersG · 13/06/2008 20:09

And I second the Natural High range from Superdrug - especially their radiance balm, makes me look much more alive after using it.

noddyholder · 13/06/2008 20:12

can you still get astral?I love the smell

Anna8888 · 14/06/2008 10:41

I use Dove Bar and a flannel, even though my partner works in cosmetics retail and I can have almost any cosmetics I want for free - it's what works best for me.

EffiePerine · 14/06/2008 10:42

Boots expert cleanser is pretty good (remove with muslin cloth and warm water) and is about 1.50. In fact most of their Expert range works pretty well.

SmugColditz · 14/06/2008 10:42

I also use dove bar and a flannel, with a splotch of bio-oil at night.

JackieNo · 14/06/2008 10:42

Any old cheapo cleanser, removed with a muslin, in a cheapoid version of the Eve Lom stuff - re-use the old baby muslins, and chuck in the wash once they've been used a couple of times.

What about good value exfoliator ?
any recommendations?

nkf · 14/06/2008 10:46

Beauty editors always seem to rate Olay as a good, cheapish range.

DarrellRivers · 14/06/2008 10:46

and i found a lovely foot/heel cream from savers for 89p the other day.
Beuaty Formula it is called, peppermint and menthol.

BagelBird · 14/06/2008 10:48

Used Clarins, loved it but could not afford it after kids. One luxury too far. We have switched all organic bathroom but on a budget. A lot is from Lush. I love their "angels on bare skin" cleanser and exfoliator. Based on mediaeval recipe, all earthy with lavender bits. Also their "honey I washed the kids" is the most wonderful soap and not just for children. Even converted to their solid shampoo bars after buying one for a camping trip. Nice to ditch huge bottles and have a neat little tin quarter of the price of my last shampoo.
Lush is not just for students

JackieNo · 14/06/2008 10:48

Well if you use a cleanser with a muslin, you may not need an exfoliator for your face, or did you mean one for your body, DarrellRivers?

DarrellRivers · 14/06/2008 10:50

Well i alternate cleanser with exfoliator, I am a recent convert to exfoliators, having found them itchy/scratchy for years, but they do clear away dead skin really well, and I have noticed my moisturisers and foundation go on a lot better now, but the last one I bought was in SpaceNk, so i imagine there must be a cheaper one out there

JackieNo · 14/06/2008 12:21

Yes, I'd imagine so. SpaceNK not exactly the bargain basement of skincare, is it. I think Cod might have done a Codpiece on it, can't remember, but you could look back and see.

pollywobbledoodle · 14/06/2008 12:51

the Simple exfolitor is really effective....better than the lancome one i used to use

Bronze · 14/06/2008 12:54

Olive/castor/fill in the gap oil

DarrellRivers · 14/06/2008 13:00

features in vogue
Thanks will give it a go

Mojomummy · 14/06/2008 16:31

Simple is full of horrible parabens.

I'm a big fan of the Tesco's Bnatural range. I use the skin brightening cleanser & my skins looks lovely. Also use the toner & the facial oil. Once a week I use the scrub, which is very gentle. All fab!
