Comfy footwear that still looks trendy?

Is there such a thing? My feet are a problem. I can’t walk far without pain/burning. I have some white sketchers which are ok for summer but I need something suitable for winter. I’m going on a city break in Feb and need something that will be comfy, practical but also that I feel nice in. I’m 47 and not ready for “granny” shoes! Help!

I have ankle boots but sized up and put trainer insoles in them. Stylish and comfy, voila!

BlackGrape · 30/12/2025 20:36

I get burning, painful feet too. I've discovered Clarks 'Funny Dream' shoes, they are literally a dream to walk in. So many nice colours on the Clarks site and Amazon in supersoft leather or suede.

AnOldCynic · 30/12/2025 20:41

Funny Dream here too. Sone might say they are granny shoes/frumpy but they are comfy as fuck and I think well cool especially in the coloured versions.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2025 21:00

Well, if you're wanting to be ageist, I'd have thought that white Sketchers are already peak 'granny'. Try the soft leather (Virginia Pascal) DM boots. Those 'Funny Dream' shoes make my soul shrivel up and die.

HighStreetOtter · 30/12/2025 21:02

I have some very comfy New Balance trainers. His about something like them or some OnClouds? Or Hoka?

Smallorveryfaraway · 30/12/2025 22:05

Fitflops, got me through a year of plantar fascitis

TheDayBeforeYouCame · 30/12/2025 22:13

Air and Grace boots. Comfortable as trainers from the first wear.

Tinybirdie · 30/12/2025 22:31

Jesus those Clarks shoes. Id rather walk bare foot

Jellycatspyjamas · 30/12/2025 22:31

Fitflop do soft leather loafers which are really comfortable and look great with jeans and trousers.

NCTDN · 30/12/2025 22:35

I’m the same. I live in pumps all year round now. Can’t bring myself to wear anything else for any distances!

FluffyFluffy · 30/12/2025 22:38

Moda in Perle boots and Eccco

PinkNeonSign · 30/12/2025 22:42

The DMs mentioned by @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie are really comfy.

Aren’t Ecco even more for old people than Skechers ?

I have recently discovered Heavenly Feet. Now have 5 pairs of their fake Birkies, two pairs of cowboy boots & 3 pairs of trainers. I has wide feet but nar4ow ankles (think duck’s feet 🤣) and they are some of the most comfy everyday footwear I’ve ever owned. Also rate Fitfrop Rally leather pumps.

Crispynoodle · 30/12/2025 23:41

I like fly London they are super comfy. I would suggest you look on Vinted to buy a pair or two to try them out

toomuchcrapeverywhere · 31/12/2025 00:24

Funny Dream? They look more like a Fucking Nightmare. I don’t think I’ve seen uglier shoes. They look like orthopaedic shoes that were around for kids in the 1970s.

Try Fitflop.

Pieceofpurplesky · 31/12/2025 00:36

I have a few pairs of fitflops which I can walk for miles in.Fly London too.

Those funny dream shoes are bloody awful - remind me of a pair of lilac dessert boots I had in the early 90s!

DelinquentSnails · 31/12/2025 00:50

I love Softinos, which are a sub-brand of Fly London. I can really comment on their stylishness as they are very much for comfort. I have the Isla trainers in several colours and bought the hi-tops for summer (desert) walking but haven’t stopped wearing them this winter as they are so comfy www.soledrifter.com.au/products/softinos-isleen268-laceup-shoe-washed-leather-denim?variant=47933012312354&country=AU&currency=AUD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17182728916&gbraid=0AAAAAC52jsqTQcyjVT9e3cevJT7EAJxmn&gclid=CjwKCAiAjc7KBhBvEiwAE2BDOSaxbwkHVNBtKBSs0hxa1HwbuNN8hKZ3ENbDYQLdb9AaxUcMqdqVuhoCJEUQAvD_BwE

Russell and Bromley - stylish and comfy. But expensive…

Usefulcider · 31/12/2025 02:51

I look on next search wide and heavenly feet. I have arthritis in my feet at 47?! I have narrow feet but wide gives me space. I sometimes chose European shoes and go up 0.5 in size.

Aren’t Ecco even more for old people than Skechers ?

No. They are for people who don't want to wear shoes that hurt their feet.
Stop with the ageism Hmm

I know loads of young people who wear Skechers. Some of their styles are frumpy and many are not. If you removed the logos from all trainers I wouldn't be surprised if more people wore Skechers because they are so comfortable.

Doteycat · 31/12/2025 12:20

I have plantar fasciatis and I mainly wear Hoka sneakers which are so comfortable and I wear Rieker sandals, shoes, trainers and boots.
I have absolutely no issues with my feet in these.
Im off to paris in jan and I will have my reiker boots and trainers and my hoka runners for all my walking around and going out.
I cannot tell you the difference they made.

SunandWine · 31/12/2025 12:30

I agree with PP that fit-flop trainers are great and I wear Sketchers Air-walks for work as they have good arch support. I think trainer looking trainers are fine if you pick the right trousers & jacket combo to wear with them.

Good leather boots with added insoles also meet the stylish but comfy brief, but you may need to try a half size larger.

I love HOFF - not cheap but I’ve never had such comfortable trainers
