Why am I shaped like a rectangle and how should I dress? Pics included

It’s dawned on me that I don’t have a curvy figure and am actually like a square box. Is it possible to have a big ribcage or something? I can never find a bra to fit me

Im 5 foot 2 and a half, weigh 9 stone 8 and am a size 10. But I always look so dumpy in photos - see proof - and wondered if anyone had any styling tips for my specific body type ? Thanks!

One thing to look at is sizing. I’m a similar height and only 9st. I fit a 10 but it makes me look awful. A 12 petite is a much more flattering fit. Try sizing up first of all.

@LostittoBostik now that’s not a bad idea! I’d never thought of sizing up because a 10 is usually my perfect fit so I’d be unable to do that in jeans but could do it with tops as I do wear them close fitting as a rule

@catpigeon how do you mean? Jeans are something I struggle with too! I wear white company or Hush jeans and they fall down after a days wear - they seem to go all baggy

I would really recommend a proper bra fitting, it makes a real difference. Often people need to go down on the back measurement and up on the cup size.

From your photo, I would say you are quite a rectangle shape, and if you're on the shorter side, try ankle grazer trousers as opposed to full length.

OP I am exactly the same as you, and I never know what to wear! 1950's style prom dresses look good because the skirt flares out and creates a waist but they're somewhat impractical on the school run. I'm following with interest...

Have you been for a bra fitting recently e.g. at Bravissimo? I was shocked at how different I looked after finding a well-fitting bra.

Also don't be scared of skirts - try one that is waist-height. You can easily dress a skirt down with trainers and a loose jumper.

Your figure is fine...you are broad shouldered with slim hips...the horizontal striped jumper will only accentuate that. A plainer top and wider bottoms would balance you out

@Motherhood12345 yes I went to bravissimo last year. They didn’t have a bra to fit me! And when I do boob or bust type measuring I’m told to contact the admins as I must be measuring wrong

@Comedycook I’d never considered that I have broad shoulders! But it makes sense as I often think of myself as being a bit like a parsnip in shape! When I’m not thinking I’m a box

Yes, broad shoulders and narrower hips, so try to balance that.

Yes, you're an inverted triangle but you look great in that skirt and green jumper. I think that's really flattering and balances you out nicely.
