A Longines watch

I was never a watch person, no interest at all, ever. Until today. I found myself looking at Longines watches in a local jewellers. Really loved a few of them, they were just beautiful.

The one I loved is €1900. Is it bonkers? I absolutely have the money in savings. Mid 50s, mortgage paid, no chlldren.DH would not be bothered at all. It just feels frivolous. Are Longines a good buy?

I was with my sister who loves Tag watches but they do nothing for me.

Any Longines lovers here?

My dad got one for long service from his work (factory machinist) in the late eighties, it's still going strong. I hope you enjoy yours as much as he has!

@WishimaywishimightThats beautiful, hope you get as much pleasure out of it as all of us here do from ours!
thanks for the update too!

Stunning - do it - I bought a Cartier Santos 25 years ago - still going strong - just had its first service

I don’t want to burst your bubble but I have this watch and it does not keep good time, and hasn’t since it was new.
It has been back to the maker several times.
It looks lovely but is still unreliable as a time keeper.

Maybe I was just unlucky.

Yes, me, I love them too!! Classic and minimal-ish. You should 100% get it.

I treated myself to one last year - it’s this one, and I adore it, I wear it every single day:

Apologies,I just read to the end of the thread.
I would not have posted if I had seen that you have already made the purchase.
Best wishes!

If you love it and you can afford it, buy it. You will see it every day on your wrist and it will lift you a little. (My Dsis, similar age, no kids, would not hesitate)

These days, because most 'luxury' watches have quartz movement, they are pretty bracelets with a time-telling function, even TAG, Cartier and Dior have quartz movement.

Only a few have 'watchmaking' credentials: e.g. Rolex - actual gears but cleverly engineered to wind themselves on your movements; patek philippe - need winding, even!

@tarheelbaby hello, do you know what an old fashioned 1970's ladies gold longines watch would fetch pls? basically that link looks like an updated version of a watch I inherited.

My husband has a longines which he loves, a very old Breitling and a fairly new Omega. I treated myself to a rolex a few years ago, which was simply due to going into a jewellers and falling in love with it. Still love my watch.

Thank you for mentioning me but sorry, I'm not up to speed on watches. You could probably google for the year and style for an idea?
