Cleansing Balms

Any recommendations?

I am currently using Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm, but I am not mad about it. It's almost too thick and the packaging is shit. It also has "bits" in which I'm not sure I like. I will use up what I have left but then I want to try something else.

I used to like Clinique Take the Day off - but it's just too much money to spend these days. It's usually at least £25.

Ideally want something with little to no fragrance, or strong essential oils... as my eyes are sensitive (and I avoid fragrance in skincare generally) and I use an oily cleanser to remove eye makeup.

Any recommendations? I have been wondering about the Byoma one. Ideally don't want to spend more than £15.

No 7 cleansing balm is cheap and ideal for sensitive skin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2025 17:16

BodyShop Camomile is a long term purchase here
M&S balm ( they used to do a Rose one too but my most recent one was in a blue/teal tub)
Lush UltraBland - DD tried it but there were bits in it she didn;t like

I've switched over to Pai Rosehip oil cleanser and a Waschie cleansing pad .

Ponds cold cream. Very old fashioned. I’ve switched a few times but always go back to this. I’ve been using it the last 20 years.

And Kylie uses it too, which I think is a good additional endorsement!

No7 is good, currently using Elemis which is lovely as well, will definitely be buying again.

The elf cleansing balm in a blue pot is a good dupe for the Clinique one. Not the matching face wash though, couldn’t be doing with that.

B melting cleansing balm in Superdrug

ADessertOrAMeringue · 26/12/2025 17:30

Another vote for the Body Shop Chamomile cleansing balm. I like the gel version that comes in a pump bottle. Takes all my make up off without drying my skin.

Harrumphhhh · 26/12/2025 17:33

Third vote for the body shop balm. My favourite is the Emma Hardie morninga balm, but it’s £££ so I only buy it on vinted. The Body Shop one feels just as lovely, a pot lasts for ages, and it’s MUCH cheaper!

I usually use Lush Ultrabland. The little lumps are beeswax, which melt in between your hands before you massage it on your face.
I have very sensitive eyes and this has never caused a reaction and I also use it as an overnight lip mask.
I tried the Bodyshop chamomile one in a tin but felt it didn't come off my skin as easily - I like to remove with a warm, damp flannel and there was still a residue left on my skin.

Mercurial123 · 26/12/2025 17:38

The Aldi cleansing balm is really good for the price.

Huckleberries · 26/12/2025 17:39

Do any of these wash off?

I'm using Liz Earle clean and polish but I felt my skin was a bit dry the last few times

It might be the variation of it that I'm using

I really like a wash off cleanser - I don't feel like my skin is properly clean if I can't wash it off.

mcmuffin22 · 26/12/2025 17:40

I quite like the aveeno one. I just use a micellar water for my eyes (to stop them watering) and the cheap and cheerful Simple one for my face at the moment though.

Ah , so they melt before you apply to your face , that makes sense.
DD had some tested on her arm by one of the sales staff and after that she bought some but noticed the difference . He must've melted it before applying
I just thought there were differences depending on the batch .

I swear by Japanfusion balm cleanser from Beauty Pie, must have repurchased 15 + times now. No detectable fragrance, great for my sensitive eyes with skin feeling clean but not tight. I’ve moved everything else across to Korean skincare brands but haven’t found any other cleanser I like as much as this one.

Cotswoldmama · 26/12/2025 18:30

I've used a few B. Superdrug one I like best

I loooove Japanfusion. But I stopped my BeautyPie subscription about a year ago as it is was the only product I was buying.

Thank you for all the recommendations, I will check them out. 😊

That's how I feel about the Inkey List one. It leaves a waxy residue. To be fair it hasn't caused me any issues, like spots or congestion (I have been using it a while) but it's putting me off using it and increasingly I have been finding myself removing makeup with a wipe and then cleansing with a different cleanser.

The Byoma one is great, so is Soap & Glory , both quite similar to the Clinique. Also M&S rose cleansing balm but that has a slight fragrance. I have sensitive eyes and never had a reaction to any of these.

Ribenaberry12 · 26/12/2025 19:20

Suneeta Cosmetics Mandarin & Calendula cleansing balm is the best I’ve found. They’re in Brick Lane or online. Gorgeous scent and little goes a long way.

wohmum · 26/12/2025 20:14

Byoma one is good and unscented I think. There are some on Vinted as it was in an advent calendar I think. I’ve just ordered an Elemis one from Vinted too

B melting cleansing balm in Superdrug

I second this, I didn't get on with the take the day off Clinique one at all but this has been great.

Typtoe · 26/12/2025 20:36

Agree with PPs re Superdrug B melting cleansing balm. I wear a fair amount of makeup and it comes off beautifully using a soft bamboo facecloth. I tend to do a second wash with a gentle face wash afterwards. It's also always on offer.

I second this, I love the rose one, it is great for the price. For taking off makeup it is great, but I always do a second cleanse with Cerave after.

somanychristmaslights · 26/12/2025 20:41

Yeah I’ve only started using the Inkey one too and I agree, the bits are just weird!!
the body shop has a great camomile one. Similar to the Clinique one but much cheaper. I’ll be back on that again when I finish this stupid Inkey one!!
