Cleansing Balms

Any recommendations?

I am currently using Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm, but I am not mad about it. It's almost too thick and the packaging is shit. It also has "bits" in which I'm not sure I like. I will use up what I have left but then I want to try something else.

I used to like Clinique Take the Day off - but it's just too much money to spend these days. It's usually at least £25.

Ideally want something with little to no fragrance, or strong essential oils... as my eyes are sensitive (and I avoid fragrance in skincare generally) and I use an oily cleanser to remove eye makeup.

Any recommendations? I have been wondering about the Byoma one. Ideally don't want to spend more than £15.

The Inkey List one is not the best. I find it hard to get out of the tube and have decanted it into a pot.

I like the Body Shop one but my favourite has been the Aldi rose one. It comes in a good sized tub too.

Aworldofmyown · 26/12/2025 20:50

I used the Body Shop Camomile one for years (my daughter still does) perfect for sensitive skin.
Christmas last year my husband bought me the huge pot of Emma hardie Moringa balm, its amazing and im not kidding when I say it has lasted me the WHOLE year! I got a new one for Christmas as I love it so much, ready for when I finally run out!

Farmacy make the most amazing ones! Unfortunately quite pricey but nothing else beats their smell and texture.

The Estee Lauder and Clinique cleansing balms leave residue inside your eyes. I wear contacts so it's immediately noticeable and I hate it. Makes my vision blurry for a few seconds. The Farmacy balm seems to dissipate immediately and doesn't go in your eyes even when taking off eye make up.

cheesychipsontheoche · 26/12/2025 21:05

Weleda cleansing balm is lovely, like the Clinique one but less harsh

MotherWol · 26/12/2025 21:11

Another vote for the M&S one, I’ve been through several tubs of the rose one (Pure Radiance) but didn’t like the Aromatherapy one as much. About to start the Aldi Emma Hardie dupe following recommendations on this forum. I always follow with a wash off cleanser like CeraVe as part of a double cleanse.

JamMakingWannaBe · 26/12/2025 21:16

Inkey List was too thick for me too. If you generally like it, I've seen a suggestion to try "melting" it on your bathroom radiator before use.

Beauty Bay's oat cleansing balm is similar but comes in a pot.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 26/12/2025 21:30

Banila Clean it Zero. Melts perfectly and a little goes a long way.

BluntQuoter · 26/12/2025 21:30

I also didn't get on with the inkey list one. Had the Emma Hardie one from an advent calendar a while back and I liked it but not enough to spend the money on a full sized one. I swear by the Elemis one, it doesn't leave much of a residue but I usually wash again afterwards with cerave anyway. The big tub lasts me absolutely ages (usually get ~6 months of daily use) and if you shop around you can usually find it for around £35

BauhausOfEliott · 26/12/2025 21:40

The Byoma one is excellent. I think it’s called Melting Balm Cleanser? Comes in a yellow pot.

frugalkitty · 27/12/2025 08:45

The only balm cleanser that will wash off with water is Elemis but it's pricey. I gave up on my last tube of the Inkey List one because of those gritty bits that didn't do anything, they didn't melt and were definitely not the usual/old bits that used to be in it.
I find the Body Shop one a bit smeary round my eyes. I like the Aldi one (more like the Body Shop one than Elemis I'd say) and Liz Earle do one that is gorgeous (try eBay for cheaper). My DD has the Elf one which is nice, not too heavily scented. I'm currently using the unscented one by Obvs which is fab as it doesn't irritate and I'm in a bit of an eczema prone phase at the moment.

Rosealine · 27/12/2025 08:50

Elemis and Emma Hardie but my all time favourite is the Eve Lom cleansing balm but I like that it has bits in it

Fiftyandme · 27/12/2025 08:51

You can’t beat Cetaphil for gentleness

PersephoneParlormaid · 27/12/2025 08:52

I’m using the Liz Earle balm and love it, it literally melts on your face.

The packaging is probably the worst thing about it. Why not a pot? I always cut the tubes open and there's so much product stuck inside. But I don't particularly like having to have cut open tubes lying around when the manufacturer could just have used more sensible packaging for the product type. I suppose I could re-pot it but what a faff. Also I find it separates, a bit like natural peanut butter, so sometimes I just get a handful of runny oil.

Thanks again for all the recommendations! I am checking them all out and have a few shortlisted to try. 😊

I like the No 7 one it’s about £13 I think but regularly on the 3 for 2 deals which takes it down to £8 or so . Very good - I started with it when Clinique priced itself out of my market ! No irritation lifts make up really well .

anon2022anon · 27/12/2025 08:54

The ordinary squalene cleanser is much nicer than the inkey list, and under £10.

Ooh. Do they make a cleansing balm now? I used to use a Cetaphil cleanser years ago but it wasn't really up to removing makeup, nor oil-based. Better for the morning or as a second cleanse after makeup removal. I'm off to Google!

I love the Holland & Barrett VitaSkin one. It's hard to get as it's always out of stock but when it is I buy in bulk! It's in a metal tube so I use one of those tube key things. It takes my make off really easily and doesn't leave any sort of residue. I do, do a double cleanse though but would do that with any balm.

Bonsaibaby · 27/12/2025 08:55

I have really sensitive eyes and can’t use body shop Elemis or Clinique anymore! So I tried a jar of organic coconut oil and it’s huge and cheap and it just melts it off. You only need to scrape a little bit and then it melts quickly. I’ll never bother with anything else. It doesn’t smell of anything.

I use The Ordinary squalene cleanser and really like it so another vote here.

Weleda skin food cleanser is my current favourite.

Parker231 · 27/12/2025 09:06

Huckleberries · 26/12/2025 17:39

Do any of these wash off?

I'm using Liz Earle clean and polish but I felt my skin was a bit dry the last few times

It might be the variation of it that I'm using

I really like a wash off cleanser - I don't feel like my skin is properly clean if I can't wash it off.

CeraVe cream to form cleanser - I keep coming back to it - and it’s cheap!

ELF Holy Hydration cleansing balm is incredible and good value for money. It is a dupe for Farmacy Green Clean which is my all time fave but too expensive for me normally.

I've got one of these in my Amazon basket.

Does it have the farmacy scent? I love farmacy and have used for years. I am a bit disappointed in the new formula though as I find it a bit too hard and the scent isnt quite as comforting. I've experimented with others but still do prefer the fsrmaxy, even if I dont love it as much as the old formula.

Op, byoma is a good option at your price point. For years, I used plain almond oil and it was amazing. I have very dry skin though. I think you are supposed to use different oils depending on your skin. Almond worked well for me..
