I always tell myself I’ll choose comfort, but somehow I still end up wearing outfits that look good and feel slightly uncomfortable. 😅

Alexadidzammomarryjackie · 26/12/2025 08:19

I dress for the occasion, but try not to buy things that make me look shit. It's possible to be comfortable and look good.

Cando6 · 26/12/2025 08:19

Can I say both? As in - I don’t compromise on comfort but choose what looks best.
I wouldn’t wear leggings and a fleece and orthopaedic shoes but stretchy trousers, flats, soft tops, giant knickers. Etc.

curious79 · 26/12/2025 08:20

both! They’re not mutually exclusive.
I would never wear or even keep something that was pure comfort while being a crime against style

RampantIvy · 26/12/2025 08:21

I try to find clothes that are both comfortable and stylish. However, I always prioritise comfort over style when it comes to footwear. Having arthritis in one foot, and flat feet that require support insoles means that I buy brands that always get sneered at for being frumpy on mumsnet.

Upthenorth · 26/12/2025 08:25

Comfort 100% but I’m by no means stylish.

I would wear leggings and a fleece….

I used to wear things that were dreadfully uncomfortable but can’t fathom who I was doing it for.

TheOGCCL · 26/12/2025 08:26

You can do both, plus be cool/warm depending on the season. Once dressed for the day, I do not change, i.e. I don’t feel the need to put ‘comfies’ on. Even my underwired bra is comfortable. It helps that things hsve evolved and things like a tight pencil skirt, thin tights, court shoes, high heels and skinny jeans are no longer seen as stylish,

skippy67 · 26/12/2025 08:28

Both. I wear clothes that fit me and look stylish.

Tryingatleast · 26/12/2025 08:30

Comfort but now realising it’s more anything that is wearable which is awful. Have let my wardrobe dwindle down to practically nothing (practically nothing fits or is practically rags) so sometimes I don’t really have anything to wear except work trousers that don’t really fit and a work jumper (retail so wear all black). Needs to change in 2026

UxmalFan · 26/12/2025 08:32

Both, but I don't bother about being fashionable. Well cut drapey trousers and tops or dresses in soft stretchy fabrics in colours that suit me.

ScarlettSunset · 26/12/2025 08:38

If I'm honest, I prefer to dress for style.

At the moment though, due to medical need, I'm having to dress for comfort. I don't like it and it's eroding my confidence so I'm trying to find ways to make it a bit better in little ways - I don't want to spend loads as it's temporary, but I'm currently dressing in ways I don't want to be dressed.

RobinEllacotStrike · 26/12/2025 08:57

Both.
id never choose to wear or buy uncomfortable clothing or shoes.

but I generally look reasonably good & I am often complimented on my style/outfit.

works for me.

thedogdaysareover51 · 26/12/2025 09:03

100% style! I wear clothes/loungewear for comfort at home or walking the dog but really try and look elegant and stylish when I’m going out. Comfort doesn’t come into the equation when I’m buying clothes for going out however if they are comfortable it’s a bonus!

Mithral · 26/12/2025 09:06

Both! I try to look stylish but my pool of possible options is less because I would never wear anything uncomfortable.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 26/12/2025 09:18

Both - I wear dresses as I find them more comfortable and I hate changing clothes multiple times throughout the day… but never overly tight or short lots of floral fit and flare dresses in summer and in winter I add comfy tights and a cardigan and always am comfortable and I think stylish.

Whenver I dress down or in tracksuits I feel really self conscious and not like myself

dudsville · 26/12/2025 10:07

I dress for both, but I can see that some styles are not as comfortable as others. What's your preferred style?

HeadyLamarr · 26/12/2025 10:09

Comfort. But I try choose colours that suit me within that.

I will not wear anything uncomfortable. At all.

wannanamechange · 26/12/2025 10:13

Style, but there's a limit. I wouldn't wear shoes that really hurt my feet or waistbands that are uncomfortable.

Floisme · 26/12/2025 10:18

Of course it’s both. As far as I’m concerned, any item of clothing that’s not comfortable isn’t fit for purpose.

I don’t really understand though why we spend so much time on this board lavishing praise on a garment simply for meeting a pretty basic minimum requirement. The only time I’d choose something purely for comfort is if I’m ill.

BlooomUnleashed · 26/12/2025 10:33

Comfort.

Which is easy to descend into “throw a nice scarf or jumper over ratty clothes” due to working online and living in a teeny tiny not even quite a hamlet in rural Italy.

As part of my Project 60 ( getting myself into the best place possible mentally, physically etc. before I turn 60 in a couple of years) I want to find a way to make comfort meet feeling stylish enough not to sometimes feel like a sofa that has seen much better days and if left outside to air would be picked up by the council as waiting for collection for the tip.

Yesterday (due to washing machine deciding to break) I sorted the laundry, and then my entire wardrobe on the basis of “would I bother to hand wash you, or lug you to the laundrette ?”.

I’m down to stuff that fits, is hugely sentimental, not worn to the point of needing repairs I’ll never get round to, suits me, is not uncomfortable and I do wear.

I’m going through vinted resetting my feed by eliminating all likes on “that’s loads of stuff for not much”, “that’s so cheap !”, “I’d never wear it due to feeling like I’m in a straight jacket”, or “would have suited me 15 years ago”.

I’m not being guided by “cheap” and instead have been madly putting likes on things that I utterly love, know I would wear happily, suit the shape and colouring I have now.

I’ll buy little, here and here, not go on a big “restock the wardrobe” shop.

Focusing on quality materials because I really can’t stand polyester. Which most things seem to be made of these days.

What I’m a bit stuck with is brands. Because I always had a “What She Wants” (long before Primark, in the 80s, probably long gone from the high street now) mentality I don’t know the names of brands I should check out to find more of what I’m looking for and improve my Vinted feed further.

sashh · 26/12/2025 11:55

I have arthritis so my first priority is clothes I can put on and take off. So no buttons on the front of tops unless I can leave them buttoned and pull over my head.

My footwear has been flat for years but I've had a couple of falls recently so I am now rocking plastic clogs. They are actually designed for people who work in kitchens so they don't slip.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 26/12/2025 14:03

Always both, even when I was young. I was always a bit alternative, arty, boho and that has never changed. I used to wear jeans a lot, but now I'm old (61) I prefer looser waistbands, so it's wide leg linen trousers or ankle length A-line pinafore dresses over a long sleeved top. I've never worn heels, always flat leather boots. Style is important to me but I've never been a slave to fashion. I go my own way.

I would never wear jog pants or leggings and I only wear cotton or linen. Comfort to me is layers and a loose silhouette, but it has to be stylish at the same time. I have a great fear of looking frumpy.

Mischance · 26/12/2025 15:24

Comfort every time. If someone does not like how I look they can look the other way!

TheChosenTwo · 26/12/2025 15:28

Comfort when when I’ve made an effort to look ‘nice’.
What exactly ‘are’ uncomfortable clothes anyway? I don’t buy clothes made of sharp material and I buy clothes that fit properly so
i suppose everything is comfortable 🧐

Petrine · 26/12/2025 15:47

I dress for style and my clothes are comfortable. I don’t think comfort and style are mutually exclusive.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/12/2025 16:07

Style. I don’t wear leggings or fleeces outside the house though I wear pyjamas all the time I’m in the house.
