I always tell myself I’ll choose comfort, but somehow I still end up wearing outfits that look good and feel slightly uncomfortable. 😅

I don't think they are mutually exclusive, but it does depend on the occasion as to how much I'll lean one way of the other.

Going to a wedding, where everyone will be dressed up and there will be lots of photos, I prefer to wear the sort of shoes that look beautiful, even though they aren't that comfy. However, going for a country walk and pub lunch it is comfort and practicality all the way.

A bit of both!
I wear a lot of jeans and t-shirts/jumpers which are comfortable but I don't think I look bad in them necessarily.

I definitely dress for comfort now that I became invisible. I also cut my lovely long hair into a pixie. I don't innately like dressing up for myself so I was like: who am I making all this effort for? Nobody seems to notice me and actually I feel my best in soft comfortable clothes and footwear so I couldn't even argue that dressing up was for me or made me feel more comfortable. I feel that looking good and being confident is much more than an outfit, it's the genes, the youth and lifestyle you lead all year long. If you're attractive you can turn heads wearing anything.. everything is chic and cool on you so dress for yourself whether that's glam or comfy in the end confidence and attraction go much deeper.

I would say both but it absolutely depends on the occasion.
I usually dress up if going out.
I’m not a jeans and t shirt type of person unless it’s a very basic casual affair such as going on a long walk.
I do dress for comfort if doing practical things such as going on a long walk. Then it’s walking shoes/trainers, a suitable coat, hat gloves, scarf, sunglasses etc.
If I’m not walking far then I wear stylish footwear.
I always dress for style if meeting friends for any occasion.
I always dress for style if I’m going to an event no matter what it is.
When I was younger it was always, always style. Now I do buy more comfortable clothes, especially underwear and footwear but age dictates that.

Both id say! But I used to be in leggings loads then I read it wasn't stylish at all. I used to wear great shoes then got plantar. Now I try and have a happy medium. Yoga type trousers, a decent coat, comfortable trainers. I always look good when im out out but its a casual sexy style look. I cringe when I see women hobbling in painful heels in town thinking how can you enjoy your night when you are hobbling away.

I was talking to my mum about this thread. I think ideally I would dress for both. In reality I dress for comfort.

I have a sensory issue re things covering my legs, I have short wide feet and I am short and curvy, prone to too much weight. I feel best in soft drapey things but look best in slightly fitted tailored things. Trying to marry the two can be difficult (especially if I try and add in colours that suit me) and it means I buy a lot of ‘ok’ stuff I don’t really love.

It’s one of my goals this year after some weight loss to buy considered things I want to wear. I’m in my early 50s now so I think it’s time I stopped compromising. I don’t need loads of clothes, just some better ones.

100% comfort, but nice versions of it. I don't wear anything ratty, holey or stained or made of cheap fabric.

My default is to be clean and showered with a clean messy bun in flannel bottoms, a cotton long sleeve tee and a luxurious chunky wool or cashmere jumper. That's my clothing happy place. If I have to go out it's loose jeans and a nice jacket. Very rarely do I have occasion to be more dressed up than that.

NormasArse · 27/12/2025 12:17

Comfort, always.

I have sensory issues around fabric, so often the feel is what draws me.

I love soft bamboo.

DancingNotDrowning · 27/12/2025 15:35

If I’m leaving the house then style, although even then I avoid anything truly uncomfortable or impractical.

My fleece lined leggings, Uggs and cashmere hoodie are the most comfortable things I own but unless I’m walking the dog in the dark or grabbing a pint of milk they’re indoor clothes only

hippospot · 27/12/2025 15:37

Both in the sense that I only buy things I love that are also comfortable, after years of realising the things in the wardrobe I never reached for were usually about tight, itchy etc.

BusterGonad · 28/12/2025 09:58

I dress for both really, and what suits my body shape if possible. I'm fed up of trousers that dig in and I've given up on certain types of heels as they hurt my toes but it doesn't mean I'm wearing ugly shoes/boots either. The only thing that I wear which can be uncomfortable is my wired bra, oh my knickers aren't stylish but extremely comfortable. At home I wear comfortable clothes that aren't stylish but I don't think that counts.
