What do you wear when you want to feel nice but still comfortable

Lately I feel like I live in leggings and jumpers and while they are comfortable they don’t always make me feel great. I don’t want anything fancy but sometimes I’d like to feel a bit more put together without trying too hard. What kind of outfits work for you day to day

Soft jeans/jeggings and a turtle neck jumper. Prob can’t get away with the skinny jeggings anymore because of fashion but you can get bootcut style ones

Empress13 · 23/12/2025 06:08

If you’re not going out some nice loungewear. Nothing nicer then snuggling up at home in something comfy that also looks good in the case of unexpected visitors

Cando6 · 23/12/2025 06:13

Soft wide leg jeans. Like those popular Halara ones. Dark jumper. Chunky leather boots.
I always think bright lipstick and a necklace make me suddenly look like I’ve made an effort even if it only takes 30 seconds to do.
In fact I very rarely wear anything that’s not entirely comfortable these days. Might stretch to a pair of wedge sandals with a maxi dress for a wedding!

Ieswe · 23/12/2025 06:44

In winter I mostly live in a thermal long sleeved top, fleece lined tights, a jersey skirt or dress and a big woolly jumper. Warm, comfortable and looks more put together than leggings

In this vein I always think people who have styled hair look really put together no matter what they’re wearing.
I’ve never learnt how to do my hair beyond washing, drying, and running the straighteners through so am at a disadvantage.

I am a leggings and jumper person, I need to be comfortable, but I feel put together and get lots of compliments on how I look.
I wear plain fine knit crew neck jumpers and chunky boots with mine (I don't like the socks/trainers trend at the moment).
I always:
Straighten my hair
Wear lipstick
Wear a necklace

And unless I'm dog walking I always wear my tweed coat with a plain, bright a scarf over it. Again, I don't like the puffa jacket trend.

evilharpy · 23/12/2025 07:03

Just jeans and a jumper at this time of year but always with jewellery, and my hair is a blunt bob but naturally unruly so the straighteners get run over it every morning and it looks fairly decent.

EssaDiTractor96 · 23/12/2025 07:05

Cashmere dress, or silk pyjamas. For me, it's the materials that matter. So a cashmere jumper and jeans, perhaps wirh a silk camisole underneath.

Elektra1 · 23/12/2025 07:06

I got some barrel legged joggers from Me and Em in the winter sale last year and have lived in them, often paired with a soft drapey jumper from Jaki London, which people often comment on. Zara and Uniqlo do similar joggers but the quality and detailing is not comparable.

StarlightLady · 23/12/2025 07:06

Mainly winter weight long sleeved dresses this time of year and big chunky earrings. Rarely wear jeans or trousers, but l’m very much in a minority.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/12/2025 07:15

I have some lovely soft cords which are almost as comfortable as joggers but looks like I've made an effort. I also like a wool or jersey dress with thick tights.

Floisme · 23/12/2025 08:24

I'm a very late convert to the famous M&S jersey wide leg trousers - the £19.50 ones. (I tried the more expensive version too but didn't like the fabric.) With a T shirt plus either a knitted tank top or a round neck, slightly too large cashmere cardigan. If I'm going somewhere where the jersey trousers feel too much like loungewear, I swop for wide leg cords.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 23/12/2025 08:29

Wide leg trousers with some stretch (not jersey as I don’t like fabric that clings too much) and a button up / blouse. Wear this with a cardigan or blazer.
Flat boots or boots with a chunky heel. (Edit: this is my everyday „uniform“. I wear this on holiday, on weekends, on casual workdays…)

Dresses are a good option as well as long as it isn’t too cold or windy.

BlueBlueCowWondering · 23/12/2025 08:32

For me it's all about not getting too hot (i have horribly itchy skin) so nothing tight or synthetic. T shirt under an open shirt or short- sleeved blouse under a loose cardigan.
Agree with pp above that tiny finishing touches make me feel better- always earrings, sometimes a scarf.

But also think it's about being deliberate in colour choices - tonal dressing can make me feel more put together

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 23/12/2025 08:32

Wide leg trousers (the £19.50 M&S ones mentioned above are great), long sleeve t-shirt, tank top. Sling on a necklace and a bit of make up and I usually pass for having made an effort.

Row23 · 23/12/2025 09:03

Have you tried flared leggings? I have a couple of pairs and when I want to be comfy and wear leggings but look a bit more put together then I pop on a flared pair. With a nice oversized jumper or cardigan, and some layered necklaces. Super comfy but also looks like I’ve made some effort.
I also find that elasticated waist, wide leg trousers eg cords are great too. Asos have lots of elasticated waist patterned trousers which are comfy, but also fun as they’re not just plain.

Floisme · 23/12/2025 09:08

Also, while I never wear anything that's actually uncomfortable, if I want to feel super chilled, then it's about the fit and the feel of the fabrics as much as the items themselves. I like everything loose fitting and slouchy and I'll size up as much as I need to get that. It's also why I preferred the cheaper M&S jersey trousers - the more expensive ones were sturdier but I didn't like how they felt.

I occasionally get lucky the first time but it can often be quite a task to get the effect I want, with a lot of trying on involved.

Thundertoast · 23/12/2025 09:11

Wide leg trousers, fitted top, necklace, having put in a smidge of effort with my hair, but the key at this time of year ive realised is not going too casual with your coat! I have a couple of lovely jackets but they do end up making me look very casual, I have a long ooversized formal-ish darker colouredvcoat which really does the trick.

FestiveBauble · 23/12/2025 09:11

I have so many matching loungewear sets, some more “home” ones in wool or cotton, some fancy cashmere ones for trips out. A nice matching cashmere loungewear set with a well cut coat is a great quick errands outfit.

I also live in lululemon matching sets, they’re so soft, wash well and look good. I think good quality materials in nice colours can help make you feel put together! Sometimes with a jumper over, if it’s chilly. I’ve also recently got some jeans from a brand called Ambela and they truly feel like I’m wearing leggings / sweatpants, but are actually jeans - a revelation for feeling comfy!

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2025 09:50

Jersey with elasticated waist! Also good if you tend to go up a down a couple sizes regularly. Black of course, then wear a more dressier top layer as the occasion requires, and jewelry. I’m also really tall, so flats for me.

Cantonet · 23/12/2025 11:17

A pair of Uniqlo easy trousers with a drawstring waist.
I have them in satin & velvet plus a cashmere slouchy jumper with a Muji cotton T underneath. A Boody bralette plus a pair of wool cashmere socks is my comfy outfit. If Baltic I add my faux sheepskin Mint Velvet gilet. Most important is that they don't show up the dog hair. It took me years to realise my Black cashmere trackie really didn't go with my golden haired spaniel.

quirkychick · 23/12/2025 21:39

A jumper dress over leggings feels a bit more put together than just jumper and leggings, loose, slouchy wool or wool blend trousers with jumper - I have some from sales and secondhand. Minimal make up and jewellery helps too.

buckleberryferry · 23/12/2025 22:02

I have some lovely wide leg pinstripes that are made of a thick jersey fabric. I wear them with trainers and a vest and cardi and they’re such a nice change from jeans. Super comfy and still smart. I’ll be wearing them Christmas Day.

quirkychick · 23/12/2025 22:39

Yes, any soft trousers will be comfortable. I do also have a (very old) pair of Gap velvet jeans that I may well wear for Christmas, as they're comfy, soft, slightly big but look like I've made an effort.

Jugendstiel · 23/12/2025 22:48

In winter, wide leg cords and a big cashmere sweater.
