I’m 56 like to look good so wear make up daily but my make up always looks too Matt to me and not glowy like everyone I see!
is it that I’m using the wrong products or the wrong regime or am I just old !
I medik 8 tetra vit C followed by a moisturiser then ysl glow foundation then a Creme blusher and finish with glow setting spray - should I be using highlighters somewhere.
i use powder eye shadows that ring seem to stay put and Charlotte Tilbury eye liner (like a pen) and can’t seem to find a planting mascara that stays put ! I’ve tried asking in space nk and tbh they seem disinterested.
any ideas welcome 🙏

Good to know, thanks. I do tolerate it but only because I use it 2-3 times a week. Any more than that and it makes my skin dry/irritable. I’ll look into moving up to 0.05% when I’m due a refill.

What are you using at the same time as it? Are you using a really rich moisturiser? I would suggest building to applying 5+ nights a week before increasing the strength. You need to keep it really simple though. Cleanse, then apply tret, then 10 mins later apply a good amount of something like the Ato Ceramide Cream. Nothing else in the evening routine until you are tolerating regular application then increase the dose.

Trinny BFF cream has been good for me.

At our age it's the shin, not the make up.
The two game changes for me have been HRT and tretinoin.

WithIcePlease · 19/12/2025 15:06

My skin normally shines.
I use tret, Botox and HRT and have a very clean diet. My PT told me to increase liquids to 4l a day. (Also vit c and peptides and some chemical exfoliation every 2 weeks or so)

A few weeks ago, I woke up and randomly, my face was not glowy and looked awful. I had to go hard with moisturiser to look vaguely normal. Then I came down with a cold/virus that lasted 2 weeks. Skin got back to normal.

So I think maybe it's factors other than skincare too.

Its advised to buffer if you have sensitive skin, I do and now use 5-6 times a week
Agree you wont see results on the strength you have.
To buffer
Cleanse in the evening as soon as you get in.
Apply a good layer of moisturising, repairing cream, look for one that protects the skin barrier.
LRP Cicaplast baume is good

I use Illiyoon Ato Ceramide Cream -comes in a huge tube
Slather it on thickly

Just before you go to bed
Apply Tret
Then your usual moisturiser/ serum

This buffer or sandwiching method still means it works but you avoid irritation.
Avoid anything like AHA, Vit C, Niacinamide that will increase sensitivity.

Tons of SPF all year round and a big hat in summer.

@Sundayagain27

Im not keen on glowy type foundations etc
Im the same age as you and I think they can emphasise lines/ texture etc

My list
HRT
Water 2-3 litres daily ( really notice if I dont)
No alcohol- absolutely terrible for your skin
No cigarettes/ vapes
Minimal sugar
Sleep 8 hours minimum
Stable weight -if reducing , go very slow
Tretoin
Sauna/ Steam-several times a week
Exercise

Avoid stress, not always an easy one to avoid .
See my buffering regime up thread.
Meticulous skincare
Make up with skincare/ treatment added eg Erborian

Personally I don't have botox or fillers

I saw this post yesterday and wasn't going to add to it as the recommendations looked expensive!

I recently had xanthelasma removal at Cardiff Specialist Skin Clinic and I saw several women who had fantastic, youthful, glory, dewy skin who attributed it to their HydraFacial. Totally out of my financial reach but they looked amazing.

www.specialistskinclinic.uk/treatments/hydrafacial/

I'm approaching 50 and have only ever used soap, water and Simple or E45 moisturiser until the summer when I wanted to improve my skin.

I bought from Superdrug Nivea cleansers to morning and evening, the Nivea Q10 serum in a brown bottle, Q10 moisturisers for day and renew overnight and the Q10 wrinkle filler serum.

I only use Boots No 7 Hydraluminous foundation with the green primer and my skin has never looked better.

I'm also drinking lots of water and eating much better as I'm using WLI.

Hope this helps 😊

Charlotte Tilbury unreal skin glow foundation, so easy to use. I always wear it when working home for a glow on teams calls.
