How do I achieve the glowy look that so many I know have !!

I’m 56 like to look good so wear make up daily but my make up always looks too Matt to me and not glowy like everyone I see!
is it that I’m using the wrong products or the wrong regime or am I just old !
I medik 8 tetra vit C followed by a moisturiser then ysl glow foundation then a Creme blusher and finish with glow setting spray - should I be using highlighters somewhere.
i use powder eye shadows that ring seem to stay put and Charlotte Tilbury eye liner (like a pen) and can’t seem to find a planting mascara that stays put ! I’ve tried asking in space nk and tbh they seem disinterested.
any ideas welcome 🙏

Lots of saunas and steam rooms

Botox twice a year

Eat a lot of oily fish, fruit and veg

Keep hydrated

No 7 foundation.

K-Beauty products are keeping my 53 y/o parched skin looking juicy.
I find makeup prep to be the most important to keep a long-lasting glow. I use K-Beauty because they really understand it. Obviously SPF 50++++ is non-negotiable, followed by a fabulous base. These are my favourites and can be worn without foundation to make you glow as well. I used YesStyle links because they are the biggest international site, but shop around for best prices.

Going against the grain on this thread, but amongst my glowing friends and familyubv their 40s and 50s the common theme is tret, not what makeup they use. Dermatica is very good. It takes a few months to start seeing results and they build over time, but I've been able to ditch foundation entirely in my 40s and get random compliments on my glowing skin which was unheard of before.

Tret doesn’t work on everybody unfortunately. I am one year in and haven’t noticed much difference, even after I was upgraded to 0.025%. I am continuing with it for now, maybe it’s a slow(er) burn for me. When did you start to see results? Also what strength and how often do you use?

Sundayagain27 · 17/12/2025 22:06

@Livpool what brand of face oil do you use and when in your regime do you use it ? My skin just seems dull !

Byoma Hydrating Recovery oil. I use a small drop after serums but before moisturiser

Brooklyn70 · 18/12/2025 08:31

do you ever exfoliate your skin?

i’ve started a treatment for my dark spots and although it’s taking a while to work, my skin feels so soft and shiny now.

chech the range at paula’s choice, they explain when and how to apply too.

Tiddlywinkly · 18/12/2025 08:37

Came to second a few others - water, K beauty products, Botox, gentle chemical exfoliation and probably sleep

AnotherVice · 18/12/2025 10:11

I use a tiny dab of pink/red tinted Vaseline on my cheek bones and it makes so much difference! £1.50 for a tin that lasts months!

Keepoffmyartichokes · 18/12/2025 10:21

For mascara tubing is your friend, I have found the E.L.F to be the best one. The one with the green lid. I use brown during the day and black for a night out.

That's a very low strength given how long you've been on it. Assuming you're tolerating it you need to be on 0.05%. I didn't see results until I was using that for a few months. It's a standard ongoing strength.

I was about to say the same. You're not going to notice anything on that strength. Its very much a starter dose just to make sure your skin tolerates it.

For me the glowy look is a mixture of skincare and make up. I use the snail mucin which has made a big difference to my skin and then a vitamin C serum and then a peptide oil and peptide eye cream. At night I use liquid gold and medik8.

Make up needs to contain a very soft shimmer and then use alba oil spray on top at the very end.

Lamentingalways · 18/12/2025 10:48

I like a matte look but in my advent calendar I got a mini glow drops (Jecca Black) primer and thought I would give it a go. Omg I couldn’t believe it, I had to wash my face because I looked proper illuminated and different, I didn’t like it but I used it more sparingly the next day and it’s a game changer tbh. I feel a bit self conscious when I wear it, it looks that different to my normal but I definitely look glowing.

Sundayagain27 · 18/12/2025 11:19

Thanks everyone - so much to look at
need to get water and sleep in to my routine !!
I found a be a glow primer in my make up drawer this morning and used after the bit c and moisturiser and before foundation and I do have more of a glow !!!

Rimmel Multi Tasker Better than Filters is fab. I mix it with Max Factor Facefinity All Day Flawless.

Yes I like that rimmel stuff.

Exercise, sleep, water and Tret seem to make the most difference to me.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 18/12/2025 11:25

For me, it’s all about the skincare rather than the make up. I mainly use Korean products and use different toners for skin flooding (look up Ashley Mixon on social media). I’m not as extreme as her but I do use a hydrating toner followed by a milky toner every time I cleanse my face

outerspacepotato · 18/12/2025 11:30

It starts with hydration and skin care. Vitamin C and peptides start the glow, Cos Rx Snail Mucin Essence really amps it up, tinted sunscreen, then Glossier Futuredew. It's an oil serum hybrid that makes my skin look glowy and healthy. I use a bit of concealer and a Violette Fr blush and lip. I'm a huge fan of tubing mascara.

Sexyin2026 · 18/12/2025 11:32

High Beam by Benefit does exactly this. You put a few dots on each cheekbone, and rub in. It's bloody amazing. Debenhams have it on sale now at around £16. It lasts forever! I've actually had my pot for 15 years!! Although back then it was double the size they sell now.

Edited to say I'm 56 and it works very well for me.

Imtoooldforallthis · 18/12/2025 11:33

I swear by microneedling I've had it done 3 times and my 60 year old skin looks the best ot ever has, also like Charlotte Tilbury Flawless filter.

PInkyStarfish · 18/12/2025 11:42

I add a couple of drops of MAC strobe to my foundation and it gives a lovely glow on my face except for my nose which I just use foundation and concealer as I have a little redness on my nose and a light dusting of talc on my nose. I then use the strobe cream at the top of cheeks and under eyebrows for a lift. A dot in the corners of the eyes and a tiny swipe above top lip.

noodlezoodle · 18/12/2025 13:37

The Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Skin foundation stick is if anything almost TOO glowy! I don't love the feel, it feels a bit sticky on my skin but it does look very good.

Good to know, thanks. I do tolerate it but only because I use it 2-3 times a week. Any more than that and it makes my skin dry/irritable. I’ll look into moving up to 0.05% when I’m due a refill.

I second the Coryx snail mucin although I appreciate everyone doesn’t like the thought of it!

Edited

Oh God, I've just spent nearly £70 on that website! Am ok though because I got some things I use anyway and they've got a sale on so they were great prices. I love Korean/Japanese skincare and look forward to trying the products you recommended.

The snail mucin is actually the one thing I wouldn't ever change in my skincare routine. Its really good.

Moisturiser, spf and then Vaseline on the cheekbones and eyebrows. Dab concealer on areas I need it, translucent powder on chin, forehead and bottom of nostrils. Then dap blush over the Vaseline. Only realised how well it works recently and my skin looks dewy all day.
