If you are boring like me did you regret a second lobe piercing

I’m mid 40s and extremely boring style-wise (slightly tongue in cheek!). I’ve been contemplating a second lobe piercing - largely because I have so many beautiful stud earrings I don’t wear, but for some reason I’m hesitant. Anyone had it done and regret it? Or am I overthinking?

I had my ears pierced at 14. I had a helix piercing at 56! Love it.

Catinabox21 · 15/12/2025 06:40

Go for it! I went from 0 piercings to 5 (3 in one lobe and 2 in the other) in one jump. Love them and wish I’d got it done sooner.

I’ve been in the trenches with v young DC for a number of years now and get zero time to spend on myself. This was one small, ‘no maintenance required’ thing I could do to make me feel a little less of a hostage to practicality.

Friend of mine works in a very ‘professional’, traditionally conservative job (think doctor, lawyer). She says that multiple ear piercings are so ubiquitous amongst the women over 30 that it’s almost part of the uniform!

I posted last night about getting an ear stack. I'm 46 and conservative stylewise (and boring life wise). I'm going for it.

The main thing stopping me is that I regret my first lobe piercings but I've worked out why and now think that multiple piercings will at worse:

  • be a waste of money if I dont like them
  • risk infection (but you cant live your life afraid of things like that)
  • cause a scar
  • make people raise an eyebrow if they even care enough to notice

Multiple piercings are no longer concerned extreme or alternative.

I'm also kind of feel like it's a female mid life crisis cliche. First and only tattoo - check. Crazy hair - check and over it. Multiple piercings - why the hell not?

Oh you’re all amazing and/or amazing enablers… I’m mostly convinced. Has anyone let their piercing close up? The single thing I think stopping me is the thought of hating it, letting them close up and having a scar.

I mean I don’t wish to brag, but I have lovely scar free lobes 🤣

I originally had my lobes done about 30 years ago. I let them close up a few years after having them done because I had lots of issues with them. I do have noticable marks. No one cares but they do bother me but I think there must be lots of people who have closed up piercings and I never notice them.

The thing that bothers me a lot is the gunk that accumulates in so called closed piercings. No one talks about that!

I'm still hoping to get an ear stack.

@RunningJo I got sparkly studs at Accessorize. They do a set of three sterling silver ones so got those.

I got my seconds at 37 I think. And maybe wore earrings for 2/3 years. Then just stopped. The holes have closed and you can’t see them now (10 years later). I just didn’t really like them much and only really wear simple studs due to work anyway- so yes I’m boring but I accept that now lol

I am 61 and had 2nd lobe piercing in my 50’s .. I am now pining for a single helix in Rt lobe but am scared of the pain 😅😅

CallingElfRescue · 15/12/2025 07:44

I had my seconds done two weeks ago, I love them, very pleased I had them done!

TryingtryingTryingfivetimes · 15/12/2025 07:54

The first one I don't remember when I got it. The second one I got when I was 11 year old. I contemplated a third as a teenager but I decided against it. Two piercings are fun, especially with different earings and hair styles.

thornbury · 16/12/2025 10:21

@LunaTheCatit won't hurt at all, go for it!

noideabutstilltrying · 16/12/2025 10:25

I have multiple piercings in each ear. I have also some that I’ve let heal. The healed ones you can’t notice and you can’t notice the holes when I’m not wearing jewellery

Nothungrycat · 16/12/2025 10:27

I had two lobe piercings in one ear and one in the other for approximately 40 years of my adult life. Had an extra three done in my 61st year - so now have three in each. I wear a variety of studs in the top two and bigger earrings in the bottom one. What slightly surprises me is that no-one has ever noticed the additions - or if they have, they're not saying anything. But I like them, and that's all that matters!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 16/12/2025 10:30

I did this, op

My little act of doing something for myself this year

I overthink everything and have ended up doing nothing - now i'm in my 30s, this must stop!

Got my eye on a tattoo for next year 🤭🤭

I have always fancied having my nose pierced. Please be honest - does it hurt? (I feel inspired by this thread...)

Mamadothehump · 16/12/2025 14:02

Go for it! I’m 44 and have 6 piercings in one ear (3 lobe, 3 cartilage) and 5 in the other. My teens think they’re great (all 3 have 2 lobe piercings) I also have around 20 tattoos but looking at me I think a lot of people would be surprised by that!!

Mikart · 16/12/2025 15:05

Im 66 and had a 2nd piercing last week.

chickenfucker · 16/12/2025 15:09

I'm really boring in every way, especially style wise, but I have three on each ear and I love them! You won't regret it.

StarlightLady · 16/12/2025 15:17

‘Hope l’m not boring, but consider the second lobe piercing as part of me.

snugasabug75 · 16/12/2025 15:20

I have 6 in one and 2 in the other

I have ones from 40 years ago that I don't normally use and can still put into if I want. One thing I would say is consider carefully the location of where you would get the second one done as many of the earrings now seem to favour different locations from mine even on the lobe.

twilightcafe · 16/12/2025 15:55

Loved my second so much that I had thirds pierced in each ear within a few months.

Went for fourths, but let them close up as three is enough for me. I am also too much of a wuss to have anything fancier like cartilage piercings.
