If you are boring like me did you regret a second lobe piercing

I’m mid 40s and extremely boring style-wise (slightly tongue in cheek!). I’ve been contemplating a second lobe piercing - largely because I have so many beautiful stud earrings I don’t wear, but for some reason I’m hesitant. Anyone had it done and regret it? Or am I overthinking?

If you regret it just don't wear earrings in it. After a while it'll close up.

I've always loved my ear piercings. The one at the top hurt and took ages to heal but lobes are always fine.

ohyesohyesoh · 14/12/2025 22:28

Do it ! If you hate it , let it heal up.

margegunderson · 14/12/2025 22:28

Did it at 64 because I was too much of a sissy to get a cartilage done (can’t remember what all the different ear piercings are called). Love it and haven’t yet bothered taking out the original piercing jewellery to swap new ones in. Partly because I went posh and the piercing jewellery is tricky to take in and out.

landlordhell · 14/12/2025 22:29

I’m 54. Got mine 2 years ago. Zero pain. Zero regrets.

Willowskyblue · 14/12/2025 22:29

I had a second for my 61st birthday. I’ve got a tiny sparkly stud in it and I love it! I’m now planning another piercing but not sure which yet.

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/12/2025 22:31

I decided against second lobes but went for cartilage piercings in my 40s. I have 3 in one ear and 4 in the other. All amazing pieces which work together.

landlordhell · 14/12/2025 22:32

It’s a second ear piercing not a facial tattoo!! Why would you regret it? I have diamond studs and small gold hoops. I’m not exactly Courtney Love!

RunningJo · 14/12/2025 22:33

I have 3 in one ear, 2 in the other. Love mine.

I’m always on the look out for tiny ear studs - struggling to find really small ones though at the minute. @Willowskyblue do you remember where you got yours from?

OP, if you hate it, as others have said, just don’t wear the ear rings. Only issue I’ve had was a helix piercing, absolutely loved it but it never healed, got fed up of it being constantly uncomfortable, so removed it. Unless you get very close up, you can’t see I’ve had a piercing there at all. Have been tempted to get it re done but never got round to it

PortSalutPlease · 14/12/2025 22:33

I had 3 in each done as a teen and let the seconds and thirds close, and there were absolutely no scars. I’ve had them repierced in my 40s, along with a daith, helix and my nose. If you want it, do it!

JustMe2026 · 14/12/2025 22:34

Had my second done middle 30s now 41 with 4 in each side and love them lol

PoachedCloud · 14/12/2025 22:40

I got a tragus piercing aged 51. It's painless, I love it, and if they had been popular when I was in my teens I would have had it then instead of lobe piercings.

I always wanted to do this, maybe have a three even but I never felt like I was pretty enough to get away with it and I feel I am too old now.

Patchlang, this is tragic.

I'm 66 and had two extra lobe piercings on either side when I was 60. I felt "if not now, when?". Where did that voice saying 'you're not pretty enough' come from? Ignore it! It's also fun playing with the earring options...

PS. Peeps with that bar thing across the upper ear cartilage, how much more did that hurt? I'd like something like that too.

I can assure you I have a face like a robber’s dog and no one has ever stopped me in the street and told me I wasn’t sufficiently pretty for two ear piercings.

Beat me to it! 😂

Shedeboodinia · 14/12/2025 22:48

Just do it.
I actually had three on each ear lobe and one more at the top of one ear for about ten years.I stopped wearing earings when my first baby was born and now they are all closed up.
I am hoping to get mine pearced ay least once again at some point now they are older.
They heal up fine if you decide you don't want them.
I can't get an earing in any of my old pearcing holes.
They are tiny dots now and healed over
So you really have nothing to lose by doing it, except the cost of the pearcing.

Showmethedrugs · 14/12/2025 21:31

Oh you’re all amazing and/or amazing enablers… I’m mostly convinced. Has anyone let their piercing close up? The single thing I think stopping me is the thought of hating it, letting them close up and having a scar.

I mean I don’t wish to brag, but I have lovely scar free lobes 🤣

Yes I have let my second holes heal over, no scars but I can feel where they were if I try.

I'm inspired! I have a face like a Bond villain's sulky cat and no one has ever stopped me in the street and told me I wasn’t sufficiently pretty for three ear piercings. (Or six, if we're being technical.)

jetlag92 · 14/12/2025 23:24

I suspect no-one except you has an opinion on it!

chellewillnotbebeaten · 14/12/2025 23:28

I’m 39, 40 next year - for quite a few years I had 2 lower lobe piercings and one cartilage upper ear. Early 30’s I added a 3rd to lower lobes and second cartilage on same ear. As I approach my 40th I’ve just had my nose and tragis done. I’m not a particularly exciting outgoing nor stylish person, pretty plain Jane. So just go for it! I regret none of them! I want my daith done in opposite ear to my tragus done as soon as tragus is healed x

Barton10 · 14/12/2025 23:32

I’m 51 and had my second lobe piercing this year. I had wanted it for ages but finally got it done and am really pleased with it. You can take it out if you don’t like it

treesocks23 · 15/12/2025 00:00

I got mine done when I was 41 I think? I absolutely love them. Just adds a bit more variety and lots of nice options. Tend to wear quite delicate earrings in them but I like varying the combos. I had been thinking about it for years then literally booked a same day appointment! Think it's the way to do it. Just go for it. If you don't like it, they can heal up!

Timeforanewgame · 15/12/2025 00:40

3 in each lobe. Never regretted it

Itsjustmethatsall · 15/12/2025 01:21

Over the years, I've had up to 12 holes in my ears. I think they look great. Most of them have closed now, not on purpose but because I was very ill, then had to keep taking them out for scans etc. You can't even tell they were there unless you look closely. The only ones that have stayed open all this time are the bottom ones (done at 13 y/o) and my tragus piercing, done in my 40s. I'm now nearly 66. Never regretted any of them

Flatandhappy · 15/12/2025 01:44

Go for it. I had a helix piercing as my 60th birthday present to myself when I
saw an absolutely gorgeous, and expensive (for me) piece of jewellery. Have had two lobe piercings for years.

SDurden · 15/12/2025 03:30

As a fellow ‘boring person’, I got each ear pierced three times in my teens/20s among other things and stopped bothering to put in extra earrings after the first year. I forget they are even there most of the time!

The extra holes aren’t that noticeable, so I’d say do it for the novelty and if you decide wearing the extra ‘bling’ isn’t worth it then it won’t matter.
