Does anyone else find the wool in jumpers itchy ? Most of the jumpers M&S have wool and HM too . No wool jumpers please ? Where ?

You need merino. Super soft and not itchy at all. This year is a nightmare as lots of jumpers have long strands of itchy alpaca.... I refuse to buy synthetic, so my other go to is a heavy cotton. Boden and Uniglo good for soft natural knits.

stclementine · 05/12/2025 12:53

Yes me too. Although I can wear the M&S supersoft ones (and their supersoft socks) or it’s cashmere

M&S super soft is 100% acrylic which I find horrible to wear!

cannaethink · 05/12/2025 15:03

I wear a thin top underneath. Usually some kind of thermal like Uniqlo heattech or the M&S version. Or a cotton long sleeved top.

But it's 59% polyester 🥴

FcukBreastCancer · 05/12/2025 16:07

I don't really care what it's made of if it feels nice. Its soft and non itch. I can't wear wool

SizeableBadBoys · 05/12/2025 16:07

Yes, I can't wear wool at all. Not even with something underneath. It's too itchy. But I am generally funny about texture, I have to feel everything before I try it on to know if I will be able to wear it. (ADHD sensitivity!!)

TragicMuse · 05/12/2025 16:10

I find even merino and cashmere are itchy. I prefer natural fibres though so choose to wear things underneath and keep it away from my neck/collarbone as much as possible.

Otherwise it’s cotton for me. Not as warm. But not itchy!

Boobyslims · 05/12/2025 16:12

H&M have the softest cashmere jumpers. Sitting here wearing the black one now - I love it! I also can’t stand any itch in my jumpers.

The OP asked for no wool. Polyester is therefore fine. Some people are allergic to wool, my youngest being one of them.

HappyFace2025 · 05/12/2025 16:23

@Funnywonder I know what the OP wanted. I just pointed out that while it may not be scratchy polyester is plastic. Not everyone is aware not wants to wear that. Personally I go along with pp who wear a cotton long sleeve vest underneath a jumper.

That's good to know. Do they pill easily? I find that M&S cashmere tends to be thin and pills easily.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/12/2025 17:36

Try washing them in hair conditioner

hexsnidgett · 05/12/2025 17:45

Do some people not wear a shirt or vest under knitwear?

Merino is definitely less itchy, but then I don't really have a problem with itchy jumpers

Gatekeeper · 05/12/2025 17:48

You need extra fine merino. Soft as a cloud...

dontcallmelen · 05/12/2025 18:09

I have that jumper @FcukBreastCancer it doesn’t feel to synthetic the fairly reasonable amount of cotton helps agree it’s very soft & comfortable.
I can wear cashmere or merino always wear a thin vest underneath, lambs wool alpaca or mohair I find unbearable even with a long sleeve top underneath it doesn’t stop the itching on the neck/wrists.

Meadowfinch · 05/12/2025 18:16

Funny isn't it. I can wear lambswool, Shetland etc, no problem.

I can't wear cashmere or angora, which drives me crazy itching, and leaves me covered in a rash.

Each to their own 😊

Neither can I. I can't wear merino wool or any kind of wool at all. Not even with a top underneath. I'm really allergic to it. For the past few years nearly all the jumpers in the shops have been wool and it's a real problem.

TealReader · 06/12/2025 14:15

I find I can generally tolerate cashmere, very soft lambswool and sometimes merino if mixed with cashmere. I always wear with something underneath. Good wool is very expensive at the moment though. I do try avoid acrylics where possible- I don’t find them warm enough and I’m trying to be more environmentally conscious.

That’s my thinking too! Acrylic/ polyester….don’t care as long as it isn’t scratchy and itchy or gives me a rash like wool 💁🏻💁🏻

Catinabox21 · 07/12/2025 09:59

Has anyone tried Uniqlo cashmere? I cannot tolerate even a whisper of itchiness!

WorriedRelative · 07/12/2025 10:01

Look for 100% cotton knitwear. Much nicer to wear and longer lasting than synthetic knitwear.

For those who don't actually have an allergy to wool looking for lambswool, merino or cashmere might help or blends.

Silk knitwear or blends including silk are lovely to wear too. They are surprisingly good to wash too.
