What boots/shoes with this dress?

For a Christmas do? I have brown lace-up ankle boots, black ones the same style, some slightly longer black calf boots, but nothing particularly "partyish". I need to be able to walk in them and negotiate the escalators on the Tube btw! I was thinking the brown, or do I need something new?

Maybe post a photo with each pair.

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 29/11/2025 21:39

So the first boots I have the same style in brown or black. I also have these ridiculous Melissa jelly things which I love, but I just don't think I can walk any distance in them! I do also own black tights (sparkly or plain) but I like the silver ones with the silvery dress.

I like the first boots best of the ones you’ve already got. If you’re going for new I’d go for a pair of creepers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/11/2025 22:07

Sorry, but I don't think any of them work. The first black ones might work with black tights.

FuelledByRageAndHaribo · 29/11/2025 22:12

I think you need something new. You’ve got fab legs but the boots are too heavy-looking and unflattering.

Qualityroses · 29/11/2025 22:17

I'd suggest something new. I don't think either of those work with that dress.

SisterTeatime · 29/11/2025 22:19

You’ve got great legs. None of these shoes work with your dress. I’d suggest a plain black kitten heel court shoe with black tights, but your legs are so good you could wear flats.

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 29/11/2025 22:27

I should have said that I don't do heels, so if I'm going to go new, what do you reckon - some sort of ballet style thing? Maybe in green or grey?

OP posts:
RalphLaurenXmas · 29/11/2025 22:29

Your legs suit the gold style shoe.

AltitudeCheck · 29/11/2025 22:37

I like the second pair of boots in a kind of alternative, slightly grunge/ rock way but it doesn't really say Christmas party. You do have great legs, the first boots just seem to cut them off in the wrong place.

What colour is the dress? Hard to tell from the pics. Perhaps a silver Mary Jane or shoe/boot?

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 29/11/2025 23:09

It's sort of silvery grey with a lighter grey pattern. I'll have a look for a Mary Jane style and if not I'll probably just wear black tights and the black boots. I am generally a bit more alternative (the pattern on the dress is snakes and spiders although you can't really tell from the pictures) so I do tend to "toughen up" dresses and skirts with big boots, but I can see that they're maybe not the best choice for this dress.

For Mary Janes look at vivavia. I was sceptical and they are expensive but they are the best shoes I have ever had. So comfy .you could walk mikes in them and so light you can put them in your handbag. They are jait amazing

NigelForage · 30/11/2025 03:38

The tights look weird

SorryNotSorry00 · 30/11/2025 04:28

If you want to wear boots with that dress pick a slightly less casual pair, possibly suede material with a bit of a heel (can be chunky or wedge if like me you don’t fare well in heels) and opaque black tights. Black colour boots would go best. I would opt for a bag in some colour to take away from the black and grey personally, mustard, burgundy or purple would be the colours I’d choose from but you could get away with a dark green handbag if that’s a colour you prefer too. Jacket could be leather or a trench coat, again it doesn’t have to be black.

I don’t consider myself to be a fashion expert or anything but that’s how I’d style that dress. Definitely try to include some element of colour if you can.

SorryNotSorry00 · 30/11/2025 04:32

Just remembered a royal blue handbag would also go well colour wise with this outfit too.

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 30/11/2025 07:30

As it's just a couple of works dos I'll be going with bags/coats I already have and I might look a bit mismatched in that respect, but I'll be taking the coat off at the beginning anyway so not overly concerned! With any new footwear, it would be good if I could get some wear out of it in the future. Mary Janes would probably go with skirts and dresses I already have if I get black ones but green or silver would also work. I'm going shopping today and might report back later...

Okay, so in that case I’d suggest classic DM
8 hole boots with black tights, or monkey boots, I have these and I love them

If a low block heel is doable, something quirky like this - I think you could wear the silver tights with these - Alice in Wonderland vibes https://www.marksandspencer.com/leather-patent-croc-block-heel-court-shoes/p/clp60746560#intid=pid_pg2pip48g2r1c2%7Cprodflag_20%25%20off

Or some cool ballet flats with an actual ballet vibe - half price as well

Agree that the tights look strange. They look a bit plasticky, like a Barbie.

I can see that they look a bit that way in the pictures but I promise in person they're just sparkly! However, I'm coming round to the idea of just wearing black ones and getting some black shoes that will go with other outfits. Possibly the silver tights are a bit "much" with the silver dress. I do like the M & S shoes in the previous post and those would be more versatile.

Like you, I’m all for using stuff I have already if at all possible, and buying something I’ll be able to wear for many other occasions if not. So if you do buy new shoes I’d suggest shorter flat ones with a sturdy heel like the ones someone suggested above or another similar style boot that is somewhat fitted around the ankle.

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 04/12/2025 19:39

If anyone is interested in an update I bought these boots in the teal. They'll go with the silver tights but would also be ok with other colours and I can wear them with jeans, work dresses etc.

The problem now is I'm thinking the dress is a bit... young for me. I'm 46 and I look it! Maybe it's too short for a works do. I don't know. But I'll keep the boots anyway because the colour is pretty and I'll wear them regardless.

Show those legs off, who cares if you’re 46!

Can you wear the dress without the belt so that it's more of an A-line? I don't think it matters about the length - but the belt around the middle makes it look a bit young girl-ish?

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 05/12/2025 05:11

It has an elasticated waist under the belt so I don't think it'll make a difference to the way it hangs, but it might improve the look somewhat. I'll try it and see. Still a bit worried about flashing my colleagues on an escalator though!
