Does your hair define/rule you ?

Mine does.. If it won't do what I want to to do (which lately is most days) I am in a foul mood all day and/or night (depending if I have done my hair for a day or night event).

I have just arrived at work and my hair looks terrible due to the damp weather I just want to go home and see no one now .. but I have a long day in the office.

Feeling miserable and fed up .. 8 hours till home time ...

Since I had it cut pixie short yes. Have to wash and style it every day and if it so much as feels a drop of moisture that's it fucked because my waves come back😡 so it kinks out power puff girls style. I'm growing it out to a short bob because at least it doesn't look quite as heinous when it waves😂

JudgeBread · 13/11/2025 09:29

I can sit on mine and it's wavy so to some extent it rules a decent chunk of my time keeping it healthy, and it very rarely does what I want it to.

But it doesn't rule my mood. If I'm having a hagrid hair day I just shrug it off as one of those things.

WorthySloth · 13/11/2025 09:31

Not since I shaved it off. It’s one less thing to worry about and I am much happier and more confident now.

previously I had really fine really curly hair that I could do nothing with so wore tied up all the time and it still pissed me off 🤣🤣

drastic way of dealing with it but it works for me

GrumpySparkler · 13/11/2025 11:00

Definitely defines my style. I'm very fortunate to have naturally thick Auburn hair. It is naturally curly/wavy but I have it styled into a poker straight inverted bob and have done for about the past 12 years. Being a millennial, my GHDs will be prized from my cold dead hands and my curls make me look like orphan Annie!
Every item of clothing and piece of make up I own is considered in the context of my hair. I love it.
However, I had a stylist recently tell me I should try wearing orange! I tried and looked bloody awful. I've kept the photos to remind myself to never try anything orange again! 😂

henlake7 · 13/11/2025 16:33

Its probably the thing I struggle with most when it comes to my appearance.
Alot of the time I just dont bother with it....like today when I am wearing a head wrap!
I wear them to work too and I seem to get compliments on the style every week (which I find weird as Im somebody who really doesnt ever get compliments about anything!).

Iloveeverycat · 13/11/2025 16:44

No, I probably have it scraped back most of the time. I work in retail so have to have it tied up or I am at home cleaning, washing and cooking so do not want it dangling over my face. How can your hair put you in a mood. You must be fun to work and live with.

WhatWouldRoyKentSay · 14/11/2025 02:33

It used to but the gamechanger for me was getting a straightening/smoothing treatment. Overnight I could literally wash and wear. I've spent years and thrown good money after bad trying to tame my hair. Who knew it was as easy as getting a treatment. I need to have another treatment done probably in the next month and then I'll be set for another six, maybe (hopefully) eight months.

ohwoaw · 14/11/2025 02:37

I love my hair. It’s definitely a huge part of who I am. It’s very long and I have loads of it. I don’t style it much but it usually sits quite nicely. Even when it’s a bit wild/scruffy I still really like it.

Orange?!

i am a redhead and never wear orange, yellow, pink or red
occasionally a v dark maroon if pushed

I’ve been blessed with good hair but it’s thinning at the front courtesy of the menopause. For the past year I’ve been treating myself to frequent blow drys, and having salon fresh hair has had a huge positive impact on my confidence and mood.

Breadbasketcase · 14/11/2025 03:54

I have nearly waist length hair and I feel like it defines who I am. Whenever I get it cut shorter I hate it. My problem now is that I'm 6 months post partum and it's so incredibly thin but I cant bring myself to chop it as I lose my identity somehow.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 14/11/2025 04:33

I have a massive Afro which luckily I don’t need to do much to. Fluff it back out when I wake up and it’s squashed, and a bit of water spray with leave in conditioner sprayed on and that’s me done. It does define my style as I feel my hair wants me to dress big and bold like it

whatcanthematterbe81 · 14/11/2025 04:35

I should add when I used to straighten my hair I was exactly like you, it took me ages to get it straight enough then would be frizzy as soon as I stepped out and I would be so upset. Embracing my natural Afro has been game changing for that

LongOutBreath · 14/11/2025 07:15

Yes and it always has ruled me. I remember as a teenager, before I knew about straighteners or diffusers or styling products, having to carefully plan wash days a couple of days before social events to give it enough time to calm down. Even now with everything at my disposal it takes hours and hours to fully dry. I can only wash and go out if I straighten, which isn't great for it, still takes ages, and puffs at the merest hint of moisture

I don't think it defines my style but I find that I struggle to identify with film / TV characters with smooth, fine, "easy" hair!

I plan my week around my hair, 😒, specifically washing it. I have great hair, thick and shiny but it is a lot of work to style and has to be blow dried properly otherwise it is a mess, don't like to overdo the heat styling so 3x a week is more than enough. I only go to the gym on hair wash days so I'm now working my gym / swim sessions around my hair schedule. Silly self imposed rules, tbh I need to chill out and have sweaty head for a day.

Rosebud987 · 14/11/2025 08:01

My hair rules me! I have 2 blow dries per week and then extra if I have any important events. I sleep with treatments, oils etc. in and yes if my hairs crap then I’m not coming out 😂 I also plan gym and swim around my blowdries…

Floisme · 14/11/2025 08:04

My hair is thick (although not as thick as it was) and wavy. It’s short and I work with the waves - well my hairdresser does. It does mean I have to visit him every 6 weeks but in between, I wash, mess it up and go. Rain is fine.

I’ve just read that back and I know it sounds insufferably smug but I’m posting it anyway because I think fighting your hair is one of the most pointless activities known to woman.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 14/11/2025 08:21

It’s always ruled and defined me.

I was ginger as a kid in the 70s and 80s, so got bullied.
It’s thick and unruly, so when it was in a bob/shoulder length it was a pain in the arse and took hours to style, then immediately looked shit the second there was any moisture in the air.
Nowadays I have a very short pixie, and it’s such an unusual look these days that it’s become my defining feature. I’m ’the one with the short hair.’

Weird to think of it, really.

Frostynoman · 14/11/2025 08:23

I can’t colour mine so permanently feel ugly and unfashionable quite frankly

Riverswims · 14/11/2025 08:29

absolutely; from crying over it as a young child and my mum threatening to get it cut short to spending £££££ on it now for it to still be a mess, my hair definitely rules me. I fight back but it always wins 😳

Yeah I’m the one with no hair 🤣🤣 I do have some but it’s a grade 2.

Genuine question, why can’t you colour it?

Iheartmysmart · 14/11/2025 11:23

Not any more. I spent years trying to grow my very fine hair, it looked okay for all of five minutes but the slightest bit of moisture in the air and it would look bloody awful. I even tried hair extensions for a while and they were a massive pain in the arse.

I now have a very, very short crop which doesn’t really need any attention other than a touch of styling powder. No hairdryer or even hairbrush needed, just leave it to dry naturally while I’m getting dressed.

I get a dry cut every 5 weeks which takes 10 minutes. I do appreciate that I’m lucky really short hair suits me though.

Gervhill · 14/11/2025 11:29

On the one hand I’m grateful to have quite thick hair. On the other, it definitely rules my life. From planning my week around when to wash, whether to leave it curly or straighten it. Leaving it curly is unpredictable, I get maybe two or three times a year where it looks fantastic for one day and when I try to replicate it my luck has run out. Straight hair doesn’t even suit me really but at least it means it’s done for a couple of days and looks better when tied back. Even when I go to a salon for a blow dry I come out looking like a 1950s housewife. Every time I think it will be different but no - massive bouncy waves 😂 It looks best when I’ve straightened and then curled it with tongs but the curling has to be done the day after washing and straightening otherwise it’s too clean and fluffy to hold a curl.
