Make up remover for mascara

LivingDeadGirlUK · 11/11/2025 14:11

Hi looking for recommendations for eye make up remover, I have Clarins balm that is pants, and a nivea one that has irritated my eyes. I need something that will remove my mascara without stripping away the skin around my eyeballs!

Dermalogica pre cleanse is brilliant for mascara. Similarly any oil based cleanser will do a good job without leaving you dry and tight round the eyes. Tubing mascaras are quite good as they come off just with water!

I use tubing mascara for this reason, stays put all day and comes off with warm water

Yeah that’s why I had high hopes for the clarins balm but it’s crap. I use curling mascara and haven’t seen a tubing mascara with a curl formula.

Seriously the Boots Everyday Sensitive Skin Eye Make-Up Remover Lotion is super cheap and I find it works so much better than stuff ten times the price. Very gentle and effective.

I use Nivea, it’s the only thing that works for me without causing any irritation or puffiness. I’ve tried so many premium brands, none of them worked like this.

This is the best stuff I've found to take my waterproof mascara off. Works a treat, with no major scrubbing required.

Superdrug -Melting cleansing balm

Yeah this is the one thats left me sore, I wonder if it was maybe the reusable cotton pads, trying to be more eco friendly.

The body shop chamomile balm is really good. Removes all make up well. I use it with those thin sponge discs you buy compressed and add water to.

Yes I swear by this one too. Has to be this dual-phase one though, the others aren't the same. It's currently on offer in Boots

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 11/11/2025 16:33

Also I find good old fashioned baby oil on a damp cotton pad or even a baby wipe works wonders.

deeahgwitch · 11/11/2025 18:11

I have the most sensitive skin around my eyes in the whole world.
Avene eye make up remover gel is very gentle.
However as I don’t use waterproof mascara I don’t know how good it would be at removing waterproof mascara.

AnchorWHAT · 12/11/2025 10:39

Another one that uses baby oil on a pad, only thing that works for me without irritation.

CraftyNavySeal · 12/11/2025 10:44

Garnier micellar water the blue one dual phase one. Same ingredients as the Lancôme version! Bottle is massive too

Victoria Beckham and Hourglass both do tubing mascaras that are really good. The Victoria Beckham one is my favourite. Washed off with warm water and normal face wash, no flaking or smudging when wearing.

They don't say anything about holding a curl though? I've not seen any tubing mascara with a curl formula but if there is one I'll happily give it a go.

so many baby lotion recommendations I'm wondering if I have some in the back of a cupboard somewhere.

I bought the baby lotion and used it to remove mascara. Sadly my eyelids reacted. I can use it as a body moisturiser so not an expensive mistake.

Lyonsleaf cleansing balms are fantastic for this. I’ve been using them for years the fragranced and non fragranced ones. I have eczema (on my eyelids) and hormonal acne and this balm helps both as well as removing all make up especially mascara. Better than the clarins and elemis ones and cheaper.

Disgruntled101 · 08/12/2025 08:16

I tried the Body Shop Chamomile balm after a recommendation on here and its been an absolute game changer, can't praise it enough. Yes the large tin is £13 but you only need a little bit so I find it lasts for ages. Very soothing, I've had no irritation with sensitive skin.

DorothyCrowfootHodgkin · 08/12/2025 08:18

Coconut oil. It removes everything, doesn't sting, and doesn't leave your skin greasy. Been using it for years. Nothing compares. (Edited for typo)

spacecadet · 09/12/2025 22:24

Do you know what's amazing, cheap and seems to be disappearing from the shelves- so I'd like to encourage everyone to keep buying it - Garnier Cleansing Milk! I've used it for your years, both the natural one and the rose one in the pink bottle and it's never irritated my eyes. Can't live without it!

ItsAWonderfulLifeforMe · 09/12/2025 22:29

Bioderma Sensibio H2O (pink lid) really does feel like water on your eyes, worth the cost, Nivea stings my eyes too
