I don't like the foundation. It made my skin look all plastic and American. Shiseido much better.

Liked concealers though.

Laura Mercier does a lovely purply eye shadow that comes up warm grey - really pretty (and much loved by Trinny & Susannah, according to the sales assistant - which made me rather embarrassed to buy it).

I think the tinted moisturiser is pretty good, but prefer Becca. Have you tried it? Not cheap but lovely stuff.

VersdeSociete · 06/06/2008 23:13

The concealers are minute even by the standards of concealers though, MrsS (I used to be krabbiepatty btw). No one has responded to my thread about mouse-eating chickens, I must stop name-changing...

Heathcliffscathy · 06/06/2008 23:15

laura mercier = you've been had

You think Laura Mercier is a swindle - have you seen the price of Chantecaille?

SpaceNK is now selling a four-week serum treatment for over a thousand quid! If I was going to spend that kind of money on my boatrace, I'd be heading straight for surgery.

AitchTwoCiao · 06/06/2008 23:27

everyone speaks highly of the concealer, i think that it's shite. far too hard and weirdy colours. the barbara daly one from tesco is Iinfinitely better imo.

AitchTwoCiao · 06/06/2008 23:27

chantecaille, however, is great.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:29

i LOVE the foundation, the primer, the tinted moisturiser, the emerald green shadow and the lipstick in Just Lips.

i used to love the concealer and i even still have the concealer brush, but now i really don't have time to faff around with it.

AitchTwoCiao · 06/06/2008 23:33

try the babs daly one, expat. it's really, really good.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:35

i just added it to our list 'Things to Get When We Go Across'. Thanks for the info on that. We'd have to go into town centre Glasgow to get Laura Mercier or I'd have to order it and I.just.can't.be.arsed.

She did do a concealer for the eyes in a wee pot that I also bought years ago when I was in Denver.

That was okay, but I really don't have time to use a brush and all that, especially not when DD1's going to be starting school in August and with DC3 en route.

Chantecaille is like Sisley, you see the prices and think, 'If I won the Lotto I'd give it a bash.'

Must be some really good shit!

AitchTwoCiao · 06/06/2008 23:46

oh i love sisley too... so good. there's a salesperson in Jenners who is SO good at her job that you leave several hundred pounds lighter in the wallet and think she's done you a favour. it is good stuff, but they put the prices up by about a tenner a while back and i just thought 'pisstake'. eve lom's nearly as good, imo, and easily half the price.

i don't pay for chantecaille, thankfully... oh what it is to work in my industry, there have to be a few perks...

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:51

Now everytime I am tempted to try Eve Lom I think of my acne prone skin and desist.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/06/2008 00:10

Has Laura Mercier had an advertising drive recently? This afternoon all big shops on Oxford Street had swarms of women around the LM counters.

AitchTwoCiao · 07/06/2008 00:10

really? i'm pretty spotty and i think it helps. i suppose it must affect everyone differently. one mate had good skin but she hated EL, said it irritated her skin. but i suspect (because this is v much her personality type) that she was going a bit overboard with the scrubbing.

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 00:11

Hmm, maybe it would help me. But it's a £40 gamble.

What if it just broke me out in spots? Bet that would be me just blown 40 quid.

That's a fair amount of yummies from M&S.

AitchTwoCiao · 07/06/2008 00:13

ask for some samples next time you're in Space NK.

or check ebay for the trial packs, they tend to be good value.

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2008 03:02

I once bought a Laura Mercier foundation and it was really greasy and awful. Slid off my face.

Mavornia · 07/06/2008 08:13

I like the tinted moisturiser but I prefer the Stila one I'm using at the minute which is not as hard to blend

Laura Mercier do a lovely violet black eyeliner but it is a bit smudgy, not one for a hot day as I reckon it would slide off

The stickgloss sheer lipsticks are great though - more permanent than a gloss and not as heavy as a normal lipstick

I have eyeliner in lovely bronze colour but it does disappear on me.
Cheap GOSH one stays on better.

Best eyeliner I have is Christian Dior in navy.
