I bought my GHD straighteners in 2012 … Do they become less effective with time? I can’t remember how good they were when I first bought them but they definitely function

should I buy a new pair in Black Friday sale?

Mine are from… [drumroll]…. 2002!!! They were a degree result gift from my mum & dad. My mum took me to get them - it was such an exciting day laying hands on them.

I am now 45 🤣

I’m not sure how old mine are, but definitely pretty old - I think they are V2 - they are at least from 2007, but could easily be older than that.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 07/11/2025 23:14

As other posters I’ve had mine since I was 19 and I’m now 41 - still going strong (when I actually use them these days)

Switched to Cloud 9 when I needed an upgrade due to everything I read about GHD vs Cloud 9 and I absolutely love them, so glad I didn’t go for the new GHDs instead based on what I’ve heard!

Mine are from 2004 - insane to think I’ve had them since I was 31 and I’m 52 now! They still work perfectly. I have very thin and fine hair so never needed to upgrade 🙂.

And me 😂

Bought mine so I could look extra 💅 when out partying

Now use them to look less like a mad old bird after I have gone to bed with wet hair because I can’t be arsed to dry it

SquashPenguin · 07/11/2025 23:30

Mine are 2004 and still work perfectly although I don’t use them very often.

StElwicksNeighbourhoodAssociation · 07/11/2025 23:39

I have no idea how old mine are, I have nothing to time stamp them against. Maybe 15 years? I've started using them again recently and they're definitely not as good as the were but I've put that down to product build up (leave in conditioner) on the plates. Does anyone know if they can be cleaned?

Mine are from 2007 🫣. I considered buying new ones, but I've been put off by people saying they're rubbish now!

My 2007 ones ha e literally just stopped working! I've replaced them with some £25 Remington ones and so far so good!

ohbutitsamercedes · 08/11/2025 07:57

i’ve had mine for ever. they have the turn off feature so is that since 2006/7?
but, i had no idea until today the GHD stood for good hair day. i feel ashamed of myself 😂
mine work as well now as when i first got them. they have a little crack where i dropped them once years ago but i can’t see any reason for them to be replaced until they self retire.

Got mine in about 2005 and got new ones in 2014 to keep in different locations
Both still work and I think the old ones are still better but not quite as smooth anymore.

If I wanted new GHDs I'd go for cloud 9 as that's the guy who made the original GHDs.

That’s very interesting!

candycanetime · 08/11/2025 08:15

Mine are from 2004! 21 years old and still going strong!

IMTHECRAZYOLDLADY · 08/11/2025 15:40

Mine are from around 2007, my daughter took them and returned her newer version, declared mine work better.
