Is it kinda pathetic or unfashionable for me, 33f, to want to dress in clothes women that are around 25 are yearing?

I feel good in the clothes I wear and I think they're cute and pretty fashionable, but I just realized that one of the artists I listen to, and also like the fashion of, is 26 :)

It doesn't bother me but I can see how it can come in the wrong way to some people I guess.

I had to get the smelling salts to revive myself after reading you’re dressing like this at 33. I’m only glad the queen is no longer here to witness it.

😆

Where on earth is there a dress code for specific ages?! I work with loads of women of different ages and can't say anybody really dresses the same?!

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 29/10/2025 08:54

Children's clothes are labelled with ages, on the increasingly outdated assumption that age equals shape / size.

I've yet to see 'adult' clothing labelled with an age, only influencers (never sure who they are meant to convince, but they try hard) and marketers try to flog stuff on the basis of age, as it makes it easier to produce profiles of purchasers for their bosses. Age is a barrier we put up in our heads, not one you should ever find yourself trapped behind for clothing choices!

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 29/10/2025 08:54

I'm 64. I still have a similar style to my teenage years -skinny jeans, T-shirts and blazers. The only real differences are the cost and that now I wear Uggs or Adidas, not Dunlop green Flash trainers.

Over the years I've followed fashion, I had big hair, stilettos and shoulder pads in the 80s (along with Lycra and leg warmers for the 'feel the burn' aerobics classes). the the 90s were my mum years with leggings and loose tops. I had a brief flirtation with Boden when I turned 50 but in the end I've come back to the silhouette that suited my figure 40/50 years ago and still looks good and feels right now.

The best change in fashion since I was a girl is that now it looks appropriate to wear trainers or flat boots with dresses - what a game changer that has been.

Greenscheesecake · 29/10/2025 08:57

I’m 61 and wear what suits me and what I like. My age doesn’t come into it.

elviswhorley · 29/10/2025 09:16

It's not about how old you are. It's about how old you look.

AmyDuPlantier · 29/10/2025 09:17

So many similar threads on here recently. It’s tragic and I don’t know why women in their 30s are feeling this way. It’s beyond bonkers. Grips must be gotten everywhere.

I’d say most 33 year olds look 33.

cramptramp · 29/10/2025 09:29

I’m in my 60’s and my daily outfits mostly consist of wide leg jeans, trainers and oversized sweatshirts. Exactly the same as the students I see in town.

IAmNotALoon · 29/10/2025 09:30

My mum is 86. She was wearing a lovely boho dress the other day from one of those " young people " catalogues. And she got chatted up by someone who was clearly younger than me....Wear what you look and feel good in, you are only 33 for Christ's s sake! I think it's quite common to have a crisis of confidence in your thirties but actually you don't reach your Prime until you are in your thirties. Then you stay there!

Dragonscaledaisy · 29/10/2025 09:33

elviswhorley · 29/10/2025 09:16

It's not about how old you are. It's about how old you look.

Everyone looks their age no matter what they may choose to believe - and that's absolutely fine. People should also wear whatever they want at any age.

No doubt there will be a flurry of posters claiming everyone thinks they're 10, 20, 30 year younger than they are. 😂

SeaAndStars · 29/10/2025 09:35

Jesus Christ, do people really think like this? At 33 too?
No wonder Sid Vicious said, "I've met the man in the street and he's a c**t".

Zempy · 29/10/2025 09:38

The 25 year old women I know wear DMs, Trainers, Midi Skirts and oversized jumpers.

I can’t see why that would be a problem at any age.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 29/10/2025 09:39

I'm 33 too, recently lost weight I'd gained so feeling myself again in every way and I love my clothes again, it's not just whatever fits. My very fashionable 25 year old colleague told me my outfits are always on point. It did put a wee spring in my step!
Wear what you want when you want ❤️

Hfgvi · 29/10/2025 10:35

My dd is 23, my clothes are not very different to hers (in fact as she moved out but all her clothes did not combined with I’ve lost some weight, my clothes often are literally hers!) I just wear sturdier underwear!
I’m pretty sure nobody is looking at you thinking “look at her, she must be 33 and she’s wearing clothes a 25 year old would wear”!

TheAlcott · 29/10/2025 13:13

"I wear what I want and I don't care how I look"

These are not equivalent sentiments. I wear what I want. I care very much about how I look, however. I don't give a toss whether other people like it or think it's age appropriate, though.

Probably most of the 20-something students I teach think I look ridiculous and wouldn't be seen dead in my clothes, but I think I look fabulous.

CocoRats · 29/10/2025 13:18

Ahh this thread is the reason I got a weird pm! I was trying to work out what the random words meant. Sadly I no longer think that you can participate in the conversation ‘bruh’.

surreygirly · 29/10/2025 13:19

Its is KIND OF not kinda

If you were wearing clothes and listening to music purely because young people are listening to it, then that would be a bit naff. But if you happen to like the same stuff then it's fine!

Exactly.. I have never guessed someone to be much younger or older. Even with Botox etc. They are still their age, just have a different look. And I say this as someone who has had Botox

I’d say most 33 year olds look 33.

It's still really young anyway.

Hohumdedum · 29/10/2025 13:44

I'm still wearing a few bits I had in junior school, so I'd say it's fine 😂

Rafting2022 · 29/10/2025 20:39

It’s so depressing that there are 72 replies on a thread about what a young woman thinks she should and shouldn’t be wearing, never mind that the question was asked in the first place.

Imagine a man asking this? No me neither.

Quantumfisiks · 29/10/2025 20:47

Oh I remember the days when I thought being 30 was old!

OP - your post just shows how young you are if you think there’s any difference between a 26 and a 33 year old. Most people find it hard to tell those ages apart.

I think it’s quite common when you first reach your 30’s to think you should morph into an old woman, but I’m now pushing 50 and don’t really dress differently from 26 year olds in the office ( granted I’m not going clubbing anymore)

my wardrobe has only changed because of lifestyle changes not to be age appropriate

I get that people often look their age, but age ranges are tricky.

i think there’s very little separating early to late 20’s. Same with 30’s. I think most people could fit into a 10 year age range. Plus or minus 5.
