Body moisturiser for perimenopausal dry skin

Has anyone got any recommendations for a body moisturiser for very dry perimenopausal skin? I'm really struggling with excessively dry and itchy skin, especially on my boobs and tummy. There's no rash or redness, just really dry and itchy.

I've always had super thirsty, greedy dry skin and I'm also a big fan of self tan, which I know dries it out more. I've tried laying off the tan, changed my deodorant to one of the (frankly crap) natural ones and switched out all my detergents/shower gels etc one at a time to see if it was a reaction to something but nothing's helped.

This current problem definitely seems to be hormone related as I get insanely itchy in the run up to my period, when it peaks and then dies down again. Seriously considering HRT to see if it helps as the itching is dreadful.

I'd prefer not to spend a fortune as my skin will need loads of it - when people say "it's expensive but it goes a long way as you only need a tiny bit", I'm always hopeful but it never seems to be the case with my greedy skin!

Just a quick one - have you tried the brand 'Fussy' for natural deodorant? I'm finding that one actually works!

TheFlis · 22/10/2025 14:22

I have very dry skin and find the Vaseline body lotions great for it, especially the aloe version. Also, do you exfoliate regularly? I find that really helps it absorb properly.

Goditsmemargaret · 22/10/2025 14:32

I - menopausal - have never tried anything that works as well as E45 cream..

TMMC1 · 22/10/2025 14:32
  1. gentle exfoliation
  2. check ingredients and avoid fragrance
MiniCooperLover · 22/10/2025 14:38

I find (for my skin) it has to be an oil rather than a creamy moisturiser. I slather it on. Vaseline do a good oil, so do Aveno.

JackieGoodman · 22/10/2025 14:38

I like Cien Aloe Vera, from Lidl. Use after every shower. Menopausal (itchy if I skip it).

elb1504 · 22/10/2025 14:45

I have dry itchy skin and use the E45 lotion and its fab and cheap!

travailtotravel · 22/10/2025 14:50

i really like the Nivea Q10 moisturisers - they've made a real difference to my dry skin. Actually, so did moving to soap rather than shower gel. The two together - when I remember to moisturise - I am all glowy and smooth.

Bodyshop body butter, truly little goes a long way (on my very dry skin) but it's by far the most comfortable for me. I buy it half price (give or take) in the Jan sales, enough to last me a few months, otherwise it's too expensive. The only thing I buy from them plus it's not tested on animals, win!

AdoraBell · 22/10/2025 15:04

I like Clarins body cream, it’s perfumed so won’t work for everyone.

EverythingIsComputer · 22/10/2025 15:05

Cerave or cetaphil, the Dove one in the maroon bottle gives me good results too

Hotflushesandchilblains · 22/10/2025 15:07

I just bought the morrisons own brand body lotion and it is great - very cheap but also really rich.

AltitudeCheck · 22/10/2025 15:12

Sweet almond oil applied to wet skin in the shower works for me. I buy organic food grade oil in 500ml or 1L bottles on amazon.

pyewatchet · 22/10/2025 15:16

Aveeno moisturisers are very nice and not very expensive. They do a few ranges including normal skin up to very dry/sensitive skin prone to eczema types. I like their hand creams and shower gels too. DH’s skin is pretty bad from chemo and he likes the shower cream and moisturisers.

deeahgwitch · 22/10/2025 15:20

Aveeno Creamy Oil Daily Moisturiser is worth a try - it has the bonus of a lovely almond scent.
Palmer’s COCONUT Body Lotion is really good, again with a lovely scent. You can also get it in an oil.
Rituals Jing body cream is very good too.
i’ve tried the new, expensive (€16 ) Vaseline body lotions but wouldn’t bother to repurchase. I wasn’t crazy about the smell (3 different scents )and that is really important for me.
Aldi do a dupe of L’occitanethe almond body lotion. It’s nice but not heavy enough probably for you.

I bought the Bioderma Atoderm shower oil and I have noticed my skin is far less dry.
It is expensive but comes in a huge container and lasts for ages- months snd months.

SnackQueen · 22/10/2025 15:28

Another vote for Cetaphil, Cerave and E45. I would also recommend Cetraben for when your skin needs next level heavy duty and thick moisturising cream (good for sensitive skin).

Nc9876543 · 22/10/2025 15:35

Moisturisers that I find good for dry skin on my body are Cerave - get the lotion in rectangular bottle if you’d like something like easily absorbed - or for something richer, LaRoche Posay Lipikar cream. As someone with thirsty skin, a little really does go a long way with this one.

SEPMum · 22/10/2025 15:39

La Roche-Posay Lipkar Baume is fantastic for very dry skin, and in this case a little really does go a long way. I also use it on my face from time to time when needed. Cerave's hydrating cleaner and body wash is also fantastic.

JurassicPark4Eva · 22/10/2025 15:52

Cerave for me. I use their blue and white pump bottle and buy the refill bags every few months.

Not greasy, dries quickly for dressing in the morning and seems to work well for me.

applegingermint · 22/10/2025 15:56

QV Baby Moisturising Cream. I’m not perimenopausal, just very dry sensitive skin. About £10 for a 500g pump pack on Amazon.

I prefer it to (variously) Cetaphil cream, Cerave cream, Cetreben cream (normal and oat), Aveeno skin relief cream and Child’s Farm oat derma cream.

isthismylifenow · 22/10/2025 16:00

I really like plain old Dove.

The cream in the tub rather than the bottle of lotion.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 22/10/2025 16:03

I like the Aveeno range. The oil is great to spray on straight after showering and I use the Aveeno Dermexa cream on my body and face. Oat based and great for very dry, itchy and eczema prone skin. There is also a body wash which is very effective and gentle.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 22/10/2025 17:21

Thanks everyone - I should probably have said I've tried Aveeno (including the oil) and most of the Vaseline ones. They're ok but I still get itchy. Sounds like Cerave, Cetaphil and La Roche Posay might be worth a try. I know E45 would probably help but I really like something that smells nice. Hoping the ones mentioned aren't fragrance free 🙈

Perimenoanti · 22/10/2025 17:26

Just the cheap but good Superdrug Vitamin E intensive (not fragance free but not strong either). Nothing is itching anymore and it is a good deal. I'm always so pleased with myself when I find something very effective that is reasonably priced.

CheeseWineFigs · 22/10/2025 17:41

Use emollient cream in the shower in place of soap or shower gel. I use epiderm. If you want to moisturise with something that smells nice after you can, but I don't find the need to use anything else.
