Body moisturiser for perimenopausal dry skin

Has anyone got any recommendations for a body moisturiser for very dry perimenopausal skin? I'm really struggling with excessively dry and itchy skin, especially on my boobs and tummy. There's no rash or redness, just really dry and itchy.

I've always had super thirsty, greedy dry skin and I'm also a big fan of self tan, which I know dries it out more. I've tried laying off the tan, changed my deodorant to one of the (frankly crap) natural ones and switched out all my detergents/shower gels etc one at a time to see if it was a reaction to something but nothing's helped.

This current problem definitely seems to be hormone related as I get insanely itchy in the run up to my period, when it peaks and then dies down again. Seriously considering HRT to see if it helps as the itching is dreadful.

I'd prefer not to spend a fortune as my skin will need loads of it - when people say "it's expensive but it goes a long way as you only need a tiny bit", I'm always hopeful but it never seems to be the case with my greedy skin!

Ameliorate body lotion, it’s the only thing that works for me. I buy the 500ml when it’s on offer and it lasts months. Really easy to rub in so you do use it all the time

I’ve tried every Nivea/Dove/Garnier/Palmers ones and their like and none of them were enough for my thirsty, itchy skin.

Then I was reading a thread on here and someone recommended Eucerin lotion for Very Dry Skin. I got some and it’s absolutely brilliant. The difference in my skin is huge. It’s not cheap but I got it on £10 Tuesday at Boots. I wouldn’t be without it now.

All of these are fab. I like the feel of the glycerin one the best but the mango vitamin c one smells the nicest and makes my skin feel lovely.

I sometimes use epiderm to wash my skin and that also really works for me.

Nivea monoi & coconut oil in lotion is quite good.

After a night time shower I'll use Body Shop Spa of the world polynesian Monoi Radiance oil. I wake up with lovely soft skin & it smells gorgeous.

You could try plain grape seed oil & add a few drops of your favourite essential oil.

I use Biotherm Lait Corporel. I get it duty free when I travel. It's my little luxury but also works really well.

Balneum cream is the strongest emoillient l believe.

You can buy it or get it on prescription. Sorted my menopausal dry skin.

I find (for my skin) it has to be an oil rather than a creamy moisturiser. I slather it on. Vaseline do a good oil, so do Aveno.

Aveno oil, Tesco sell it and amazon

The E45 rich cream (not the lotion) is very moisturising. My skin is very dry too, always sorts me out.

Afraid that for the vast majority of moisturisers, the more intensive they are the more likely they will be fragrance free. I think all the ones you've named are unfragranced. I think most people with very dry skin also have sensitive skin / eczema so fragrances are a no go.

I have thirsty skin and really like the Weleda body moisturisers, I use the seabuckthorn one, and the skin food lotion is good too. Prefer the no chemicals when it's covering so much skin. A water softener has helped the most though with the itchiness.

Diprobase for ecxema cream. The only thing that works on my parched menopausal skin.

Could you swop to using one of those gradual tanners which are mainly body lotion? They give a lovely natural glow and moisturise well at the same time. I've used several and they're all good

Absolutely not a good idea with dry skin - you go extremely patchy on the damaged skin.

Another vote for Cerave!

GuestWW · 23/10/2025 16:02

Epaderm - cheap and effective, I use it as cleanser and moisturiser. No fragrance, no frills and as a lifelong eczema / dry skin sufferer it really is a case of trying what you can. Dermol is also good, Aveeno is ok but not as good.

Oil body/shower wash from the Sanctuary range is great or sweet almond oil Johnson's baby oil on wet skin

isitmytime · 23/10/2025 16:30

I have super dry skin especially on my legs. In winter it used to be so dry it was flaky and disgusting
i got on top of it by
regular exfoliation, I use the scrubby gloves in the shower
I apply oil, baby oil/almond/coconut when I’m soaking wet just after my shower. Then get dry
moisturiser I use either cerave for extra dry skin or Nivea for extra dry skin
my skin is finally smooth and flake free and no longer itchy

annabannan · 23/10/2025 18:11

Ameliorate transforming body lotion, thank me later ;)

Windmill34 · 23/10/2025 18:32

I use organic coconut oil in a jar anything from £4-£6 depending on supermarket or Amazon
At first you’ll think it’s greasy on first use, it’s NOT
it just melts into your skin and doesn’t feel greasy
just lovely and soft.
dh always comments on how soft my skin feels @68

Alittlewordinyourear · 23/10/2025 18:49

Cerave the big tub transformed my dry sometimes itchy skin - it’s like a miracle. When it was really bad I used the bio oil gel followed by the cerave .

lifeisfraughtless · 23/10/2025 18:50

I put this earlier, it’s sooo good, just wish it had a less clinical smell

Rina66 · 24/10/2025 01:18

I use Bio oil at night and Nivea 24 hour moisture for day - the big blue pump bottle, it’s on offer for £3.99 at the moment for 400ml
