What colour goes well with dark/bottle green?

Got a lovely bottle green jumper and wondered what colour trousers or jeans will go really well? I've got black but also navy or rust.

That jumper is lovely!!

milkywaynursery · 22/10/2025 11:17

Cream or chocolate brown. I feel burgundy might look too elf on a shelf.
i would pair with wide leg trousers with a centre sewn crease or pleated midi skirt or fit and flare knee length or pencil midi skirt.

Thank you! Was worried the sleeves were too crazy but went to try it on and its lovely

Sorry I just noticed you didn't ask about skirts. Dark denim jeans or pale Denim Jeans just not any of rips and unfinished hem, it's a smart top and deserves a smart pair of jeans. If you like flared jeans or boot leg I think it will look nice mirroring the silhouette of the sleeves and top of fit and flare.

The sleeves are nice! they'll keep the chill out without risking dipping into things whenever you reach out for something.

milkywaynursery · 22/10/2025 11:21

oh and I think bright yellow gold jewelry would look good with this or dull antique type silver jewelry if that would suit your tone more.

DreamloverTealover · 22/10/2025 11:21

Thanks @milkywaynursery . I have dark blue bootleg jeans so that sounds good! Elf on the shelf 😂 I was worried about looking like a carrot if I wore my rust high waist trousers.

Yeah I think this top with rust trousers, though the colours suit, it will make your legs and arse the main focus as soon as eyes meet you 😅whiiiiich might not be such a bad thing!! 😅😆

willitevergetwarm · 22/10/2025 11:27

May or may not have this in my basket.............

PixieandMe · 22/10/2025 11:33

Where did you buy this, OP? I think the label reads 'Banned' but I can't find it online.

It's lovely.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 22/10/2025 11:37

Would be lovely with dark blue jeans or a pop of pink (Tesco & Next have lovely satin midi skirts).

Banned Retro

DreamloverTealover · 22/10/2025 11:40

Its Banned Retro and called Angel Pointelle jumper. I tried to post a similar thread last night but mumsnet hid it and looking at it and its still hidden 🤔 and wondered if that's because of the link. They have it in different colours too.

I think black, navy or rust would work (and no, you wouldn't look like a carrot or elf on the shelf unless you wear green feathers in your hair or a pointy hat!).
Agree dark blue jeans would work best.

BunfightBetty · 22/10/2025 11:41

Love this! I agree that dark wide leg jeans and black wide leg trousers would be great with it. I'd be tempted to run with the 40s vibe a little, and look for some toning dark green, high waisted wide leg trousers, probably with a crease. But then make the accessories more contemporary to avoid a 'fancy dress' or 'swing dancing night' vibe. It's gorgeous.

5128gap · 22/10/2025 11:42

I have a jumper in that colour and wear with indigo jeans. Each colour seems to complement the other. With black jeans it looks a bit meh.

Banned Retro

Thank you! I love it.

I am a huge fan of Seamstress of Bloomsbury, too.

I would wear that jumper with a tweed skirt and brown shoes or boots. Or as others say, dark jeans or trousers.

Perfidia · 22/10/2025 11:42

If you look out of the nearest window you’ll immediately realise the rust will look most natural right now. (Assuming the proportions of jumper and trousers work?)

Purple, cream, lime green …

DreamloverTealover · 22/10/2025 11:58

OK another question do you think wearing this would work for a boozy brunch late November??

OP posts:
DreamloverTealover · 22/10/2025 12:01

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions so far. I have lots of wide black trousers and a couple high waisted 40s style already. So again its making the right choice of having a vintage twist rather than full on 40s outfit. I do similar with my vintage style blouses I wear with jeans or mt 40s trousers with a modern top.

@PixieandMe me too and have got some Seamstress items too. Love the vintage look but always feel I can't pull off my whole outfit being that style.

Taupe/beige ,rust or chocolate chinos

milkywaynursery · 22/10/2025 12:34

Do you tend to overheat? would a camisole work underneath if it gets too hot?
In principle, I think it's fine for a pub lunch near the festive season. but I personally get very warm when I drink 😅and some have roaring open fire, so prefer layers in pubs.

I think keeping vintage to a piece instead of the whole item is a more realistic way of dressing, if the whole outfit is vintage is will look like a costume or a period photoshoot... it's definitely better the way you do it pairing it with modern pieces.

coxesorangepippin · 22/10/2025 12:45

I've a similar jumper and plan on wearing it with a knee length leopard print skirt and flats

It'd look good with steel grey also

I'd avoid brown, you'll look like a tree 🌴
