Posh boots

Im after a pair of knee high boots, well fitted, waterproof ideally but smart enough to wear with a mini skirt and tights for winter.
Ive looked at f&f and PC but they have mixed reviews and due to the cost they need to be comfy and not scream fashion victim.
I like them both but not sure they're worth thr money now?
Any other brands please? They need to look smart. I already have decent wellies and dont own a horse if that helps!

What’s PC?

The deciding factor is how much you’re willing to spend, @superplumb.

(Bit puzzled about the ‘screaming fashion victim’ comment? Millions of women are walking around in relatively decent quality boots without anyone assuming they’re stupid or spendthrift …)

BangingOn · 16/10/2025 11:59

I wouldn’t say they are posh, but I really rate AllSaints for boots. I have a few pairs from there which are really comfortable and still look new after two winters.

Me+Em is another good option, although a higher budget.

freezingmytoesoff · 16/10/2025 12:31

Duo? They do different lengths & calf widths to ensure they fit well.

PC are classic and will last years without looking dated. So an investment, not a fashion statement but a stylish one, a considered purchase that you will get your monies worth from. Personally I find her boots exceptionally comfortable to wear and walk in day after day. But we are all different. F&F I have never tried, Personally I view these as more of a fashion statement and I don’t see the longevity in them.

F&f are viewed but quite a few as a fashion statement unless you use them for country sports.

I read your OP and came to suggest PC or F&F.
I’ve got quite a few pairs of boots from both and all are fabulous quality, comfortable and easy to wear.

If you had to choose which brand would you choose?

Difficult. I’m quite the collector of F&F as I like how I can mix and match things eg. Boots, belt and bag or the same bag with loafers etc etc.
However, if it was just a one off item, and it’s the long Spanish tassel boots, perhaps PC would win for me ever-so-slightly.

UpMyself · 16/10/2025 17:06

Spanish Riding Boots or Really Wild boots
If you don't want to spend a fortune, look for pre-loved ones.

You could try Duo, Clark's, Rydale's, Dubarry, Russell & Bromley, Fyre and similar brands.

Perfidia · 16/10/2025 18:23

Oh, of course!

The boots I’ve been wearing most over the past couple of years that meet the OP’s brief are by:

Legres

(Bought mine in the sales.) I’ve found them pretty much flawless but it is a more anonymous look, though.

KateBushAgain · 16/10/2025 18:26

Russell & Bromley have some lovely boots , not sure about being waterproof though.

UpMyself · 16/10/2025 18:29

They're probably not but wasn't sure how 'waterproof' OP wanted. Not get ruined in a downpour or ok to paddle in a puddle in?

Cyclingmummy1 · 16/10/2025 18:33

Russell and Bromley.

Am I the only person that thought F&F meant Florence & Fred (Tescos)?
Yup, thought so…

OhNineFiftyFour · 16/10/2025 18:48

I like Anonymous from Copenhagen. Have a couple of pairs. Pricey though.

nope. took me a couple of minutes too. I got there in the end 😀

superplumb · 16/10/2025 18:56

Thanks but I dont think theyre smart enough for work.

OP posts:
Perfidia · 16/10/2025 19:02

The tenor of the OP wouldn’t fit with Florence & Fred.😂 But I don’t think of either of the brands mentioned by the OP as being particularly fashionable, so I was very confused …

UpMyself · 16/10/2025 19:19

These are smart, @superplumb : Women's Dark Brown Melissa Button Tall Inside Zip Boot | The Frye Company
depending on what you wear with them, I guess.
F&F aren't smart.
