Very comfortable loafers?

Loafffing · 14/10/2025 08:20

I can’t have uncomfortable feet anymore! And live in trainers. But I also need some other mid-season shoes that aren’t just trainers and would quite like some loafers or flat back lace ups.

Can anyone recommend any super comfortable ones? Ones you’d be happy to do 10,000 steps in? But also look great?

I thought about the Birkenstock ones but they look like slip ons (no back) from the photos and not sure about that.

Tod’s. Terribly expensive but worth it.

MarisPiper92 · 14/10/2025 10:06

Following as I am on the hunt for the same.

Lovemycat2023 · 14/10/2025 10:08

Me too! I have a new role and think they would be a good office option!

MarisPiper92 · 14/10/2025 10:15

Is anyone familiar with Geox? I tried on some Geox loafers in John Lewis which seemed like they might fit the bill. I think they were about £120, which is more than I would normally pay so I'd like to be confident before I commit!

MarisPiper92 · 14/10/2025 10:15

Gah why did John Lewis turn into a link?!

dotty2 · 14/10/2025 10:19

I have the fitflop ones and they were very comfortable in the sole and front of my foot but rubbed my heel when I wore them without socks for a whole day in summer (but are fine with socks). I’d like some slightly chunkier ones for autumn though so following with interest.

Ladyymuck · 14/10/2025 10:20

Russell and Bromley loafers are very comfy and they last

Overtheatlantic · 14/10/2025 10:21

Russell and Bromley. They are expensive but for my feet they are like butter.

I almost hate to write this but I saw some Tod’s loafers in the window of a charity shop recently. Barely worn, my size. £40. I was over the moon they are fabulous. But I also find M&S loafers really comfortable. I can walk for hours in them.

travailtotravel · 14/10/2025 10:52

I have some very cute little shoes that are more decorative than practical. Put an insole in them as needed to wear for a thing - OMG all my non trainer shoes have insoles in them now! Size up so they fit and get that trainer feeling in everything.

localhere · 14/10/2025 10:56

Go barefoot. There are some lovely loafers from Be Lenka, Shapen, etc- happy little soles is your best bet

SilkAndSparklesForParties · 14/10/2025 11:01

I never understand these threads. Feet come in all shapes and sizes and what suits one person and fits well and comfortably will not suit another.

@Loafffing you need to go to the shops and try them on and make up your own mind.

Shoes, imo, sumply cannot be purchased on the Internet.

CuriousKangaroo · 14/10/2025 11:02

Following as I am looking for the same. I have several pairs which felt comfortable in the shop, but one wear outside and they rubbed my heels raw.

I cannot seem to find a pair that are a snug enough fit to stay on well, without rubbing my heels to the point they bleed. I must have spent £500 over the last few years trying to find a pair that work.

AlexandraJJ · 14/10/2025 11:03

I find Holland Cooper loafers comfortable

Cantonet · 14/10/2025 11:13

These from Clarks.
I've just purchased them in the Merlot, as they fit my customised insoles. Very comfortable with a bit of height, but probably not the height of fashion 😳. Great under my jeans though & a change from trainers.

I don't think this is helpful. Of course it depends what works for your foot shape and you need to try them on. But it is useful to know what others think about the overall quality and comfort of a shoe, and whether you could really walk 10k steps in it, rather than just wear it for a party or to the office. For example, does it have enough bounce and support, is it robust leather that will last?

I have found Geox to be good quality and well cushioned.

Also Ecco, for example these:

I just looked them up, they make russell
and Bromley look like good value 😂

LoveSandbanks · 14/10/2025 11:21

I’m also on the hunt for loafers. I want something that has at least a nod to current fashion and not look like shoes my granny would wear (although my granny was never seen out of heels)

At the moment I’m waiting for a deliver from Russell and Bromley and Sam Endleman.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 14/10/2025 11:27

GH Bass - Weejun loafers. They need a bit of wearing in as they mould to your feet, then they are fine. I have 4 pairs.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 14/10/2025 11:35

I've just bought some Esska ones after seeing a recommendation on here, and I have to say, they were comfy from the first wear.

I didn't have high expectations, because all the loafers I've tried in the past have been challenging to say the least, but they felt like I'd been wearing them for years. Highly recommend.

Fushia123 · 14/10/2025 11:39

Lace ups are always going to be comfy as you won’t ‘walk out of them’. I am not sure what you mean about flat back lace ups. Do you mean flat black - if so I’ve got some lovely black patent brogues from Clarkes. Always look smart.

outerspacepotato · 14/10/2025 11:40

I have a pair of Bass Weejuns and the leather molded to the shape of my foot. It's like wearing custom shoes and they last years.

Loafffing · 14/10/2025 14:50

Thanks everyone!! Great responses - I am looking them all up! I was about to reply that I don’t mind spending £££ and then I looked at the price of Tod’s!

Flat black lace ups - I mean something that looks a bit like these (attached).

I suppose they’re Oxfords? They don’t need to have the small heel though, because if they’re not comfortable, I’ll never wear them!

I found Russell & Bromley very uncomfortable. Over the last year I must have tried o a dozen pairs of loafers from Clarks to Gucci and everything inbetween. I didn't try the GH Bass as there were no stockists near to me.

The most comfortable (indeed the most comfortable shoe I have ever work) was the Gucci Brixton loafers but they are obviously very expensive although I did get them highly discounted. I was going to try a brand called Carmina which came highly rated but the only stockist I could find was London.

OhDear111 · 14/10/2025 15:21

@LoafffingIf you haven’t heard of Tod’s then you probably should ignore them! They are more famous for driving shoes in a loafer style. I’ve bought them for years from Bicester Village but they are quite narrow. The traditional driving style doesn’t last long either!

For more modest cost - M&S or Clark’s. Don’t buy those lace ups!
