Tear trough filler, whats your experience?

Vodka1 · 08/10/2025 17:57

I'm looking to get tear trough filler & have a consultation booked in, but I'm an absolute wimp for pain so it's not really leaving my head as I know it's going to hurt.

However, I have so many lines underneath my eyes, but when I look at before and afters, no one really looks like me.

It's £355. I'm just looking for any experiences and if it helped to reduce your under eye lines. I'm 34, but feel I look a lot older.

Thanks

My very well respected practitioner won't do them. Says it's too dangerous.

Why, what’s the danger?

YourPeppyAmberTraybake · 09/10/2025 15:54

My dermatologist won’t do them as they are risky.

Where did you go? I’m looking into this as my hollows are ageing me.

I live just outside Glasgow postcode G75 not sure where your based

GirlonaCloud · 09/10/2025 16:03

@Vodka1 I had it done once, at a cosmetic clinic in London by one of the best doctors in the UK for fillers. I'd not risk it being done by anyone who is not a doctor.

The current price (my guess) is that it would be close to £800 as the filler is priced per ml as well as their skill.

I was advised I'd get 50% improvement. It has to be done very carefully or eyesight can be affected.

It lasted for about 4-6 months (less than other fillers I'd had for my cheeks.)

I didn't have it done again partly because of the cost/ time scale it lasts, but also because there is a risk.

it can work for eye bags (that's what I had) as it fills the skin around them so they 'disappear'.

GirlonaCloud · 09/10/2025 16:09

If filler stays for so long why do we need top ups?

I doesn't @Vodka1

They use different types of filler for different parts of your face.

You're only 34 ! I was 25 years older than you when I had it done.

Mumsworkneverdone · 09/10/2025 16:12

Hi op,

had this and it went wrong, very experienced practitioner. Had it dissolved and the skin left was damaged. Please look at polynucleotides instead. Similar results , low risk and much better results for wrinkles. Good luck!

TheCaribbeanIsCallingMe · 09/10/2025 16:16

Not your question, but just thought I'd throw it in - I had a lower bleph for this. It's a game changer and cost about £1700. I also had an upper at the same time, for hooded eye lids, but I am a lot older than you (55).

I spoke to someone about tear trough filler (before I opted for a bleph), and I remember her telling me, that you MUST have cheek filler if you have tear trough filler, because that structure (the cheek filler) will support the tear trough area. I really didn't fancy this, as I think filler can sometimes look very obvious and make your face look a weird shape. Hence opting for a bleph instead.

Fwiw, I think your eyes look fine!

From your picture it looks like you could get the result you want from a skin peel or laser resurfacing. I would try this first and then look at filler if the problem was still there but I would bet it would really improve the issue

This is really interesting. I will look into this as well

Thanks for all the responses, I was expecting horror stories but it's mostly been a nice mixture of success and gentle advice against / other options. Really glad I posted now

@Latitudary it was uncomfortable and felt like sunburn after.
swollen and peeling for about 5 days then it improves gradually over weeks.
I had a couple of days off work.
I had my face and neck done about 2 months later and didn’t have time off, but I’m
happy to tell people I’ve had stuff done.

Thank you!

Twinklewonderkins · 09/10/2025 19:54

@Latitudary if you Google “Madonna eye lift” that’s what I had (apparently Madonna had it once upon a time) you’ll see a lot of before and afters on the internet.
My lady was in Manchester but there’s bound to be someone local

EspanaPorfavor · 09/10/2025 19:59

I had it done by a very experienced practitioner and it migrated down a bit causing a ridge. I had it dissolved which was the most agonising procedure ever, so much pain.

TBH I think you are far far too young to be doing this sort of thing to your face.
You're 34 ! Looking at your photos I can't see anything wrong, just some dark shadows.

Also they don't put filler right under your eye into the corners. It's injected near the outside of your cheeks and only goes slightly under the eye. And yes, it hurts a bit.

You can change your eye/ under eye area with plenty of moisturiser, a good eye cream, good make up ( use colour corrector and concealers) and learn how to disguise what you don't like.

If you start at 34 how can you keep going till you're 64 or 74?

@TheCaribbeanIsCallingMe Would love to know where you had your upper and lower bleph done, if you're happy to share...

PennyPugwash · 09/10/2025 23:38

Didn’t work for me. Had to have it dissolved twice.
worked really beautifully on one side and was lumpy on the other.

Latitudary · 10/10/2025 12:53

@Vodka1 Just in case useful, here's an explainer on polynucleotides (the brand being used in Plinest, one of the leaders) from Alice Hart Davis's Tweakment Guide (you may already know that she's a leading cosmetic treatment journalist), plus a video of her having the treatment done, around her eyes (using special product, Plinest Eyes), then her face, then her neck and decolletage. Shows you what's involved and explains how it works and the benefits. The doctor carrying out the procedure explains that he's doing fewer and fewer tear trough fillers as the polynucleotides give good results and have fewer risks:

Thank you all. I'm going to hold off on the trough filler for a while longer. I'm still going to go for my consultation because it's paid for but I will ask about chemical peels & other advice instead.

Whilst I'm not put off the idea I'm also not 100% and you've made me see it's worth while exploring other (less invasive) options first.😀

Damn lines

Are you paying for a consultation?

I've looked into this and thought it was more for dark circles, for that the results look great. I'm worried about the low price though. A couple thousand is more average for this

No, it's hundreds, not thousands!

I've done it two or three times. The change for me is very subtle so I can't necessarily recommend it.

Vodka1 · 10/10/2025 19:02

GirlonaCloud · 10/10/2025 18:56

Are you paying for a consultation?

It's £30, redeemable against a procedure if I went ahead

For me, I would have had to pay for the consultation if not having treatment, but not if I was going ahead with treatment.

oakpie · 10/10/2025 19:14

OP I’ve started a course of polynucleotides to try to help under eye lines, similarly to you I’m not hollow but not happy with the lines. It’s too early to tell if it’ll do much, but it’s cheaper than filler, and she used numbing cream so I didn’t feel a thing.

Oh no, I've got terrible dark circles and was thinking about it

RealPerson · 10/10/2025 19:58

I have been using the tria laser for loose skin under the eyes. I've used it four times and I am starting to see some results. Smoother skin, my makeup goes on nicer. It inflicts microinjury to the epidermis similar to micro needling, promoting collagen production
