Black Tights and Trainers

Does anyone wear trainers with their black tights. I've got some cord mini skirts and normally wear boots, but also love trainers. I'm not sure I've seen anyone mid forties pulling off skirts and tights with trainers? I want to though!

Loss of people do, just do it and think no more of it. Enjoy being comfortable and cool

MadameSapphire · 07/10/2025 23:07

I’m definitely here for this thread, OP! Would love some trainer ideas to go with skirts. 😊

Divebar2021 · 07/10/2025 23:14

I think it’s a no from me… I’m not sure why. It’s got the feel of “ I work in an office and I leave my shoes under my desk”.

SouthernNights59 · 07/10/2025 23:16

I would do it, and I'm older than you!

Magpie50 · 08/10/2025 05:10

I think it's fine if you have some nice coloured trainers, or even leopard print, then it looks intentional.
Big white trainers looks more like you are planning on changing when you get where you're going though.

Waitaminutewheresmejumper · 08/10/2025 05:17

I do and I'm in my 50s. I don't wear running type trainers though, I think that looks odd.

TheChosenTwo · 08/10/2025 05:50

I’m 41 and this is one of my daily regular looks! I have a few pairs of colourful trainers and several skirts - I think it looks fun and really only dress for myself so I’m happy.

DappledThings · 08/10/2025 05:59

Yes, wouldn't think anything of it. Trainers go with everything unless I'm going to a wedding.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 08/10/2025 07:22

For me it would feel a bit childish, as it reminds me of being a teenager in the 90s. It is what i used to wear back in my Grunge days (my tartan mini dress or a skirt with my converse or Airwalk).

To use Trainspotting 2 - I'd feel like a tourist in my own youth.

sundaychairtree · 08/10/2025 07:28

I don't think it's an age thing. I tbink it just looks a bit disjointed.

Britpopbaby · 08/10/2025 08:02

It’s a no from me but then I don’t like trainers with jeans or dresses.

dudsville · 08/10/2025 08:07

Everything I imagine when I think of this combo isn't good, so I googled. There are some good looking ways to wear this combo.

This was my first thought too

Yes it definitely brings on "Working Girl" vibes.

I can just about cope with skirts/dresses and trainers but not with black tights I don't think.

Was just about to make the Working Girl comment and you beat me to it 😆

Lottapianos · 08/10/2025 09:27

I wear this look and I'm 45. Not planning on stopping any time soon! With coloured trainers as others have said, never white trainers

Twoshoesnewshoes · 08/10/2025 09:28

Agree with pps that it depends on the type of trainers.
running type - no, imo looks weird and disjointed
flat skater type - better, but wear visible socks as well

dudsville · 08/10/2025 09:28

I don't mind a bit of working girl vibe. When I was a kid, I enjoyed the American rom coms that inevitably featured a strong minded
New York based women running between jobs in her smart clothes and sensible sneakers!

LaChouette · 08/10/2025 09:35

For those who don't like the look, what do you wear instead? I wear my DM boots, but some days, I can't be bothered with the laces 😳, and other days, I want something a bit more 'feminine'. Loafers do not suit me, I have tried so many different styles, and I hate how they look on me.

Hoppinggreen · 08/10/2025 09:37

I do it but only with my black leather trainers
I also wear Mulberry tights with trainrs the same colour
Not a fan of black tights and lighter trainers but I'm no fashion icon

Belladog1 · 08/10/2025 09:40

I do. I have a couple of pairs of black trainers that I wear with black tights. I have stupid feet with crazy high arches and I struggle to find shoes / boots that are comfortable. So I generally live in smart trainers and in the summer I found a nice pair of sandals that do the job. If I go somewhere 'nice' I do have a pair of leather ankle boots that are comfy.

mcmuffin22 · 08/10/2025 09:44

I do but with retro type trainers (usually black) rather than running shoes. I like the 90s look. If I need my feet to be warmer I wear DMs or chelsea boots.

dollyblue01 · 08/10/2025 09:48

God no , don’t get the whole trainer and dress/skirt thing anyway, just not my style.

Boots, unless its a work/smart dress then I wear ballet flats. I have many pairs of boots so I could go a week without wearing the same ones. Some are more feminine than others, some are flat, some are clumpy, some are faux fur lined, some are smart. I recently discovered (forgot i had them) my lovely pair of suede high-heeled ankle boots from Zara (one of the few things my ex bought me that I actually liked).

Loafers remind me too much of school shoes.

Thanks. I can't wear heels. And this is going to sound mad after saying I wear DMs with dresses/skirts, I hate most other boots with them because I have the good fortune to have slim ankles, so they wallow and look ridiculous on me. I think I'm just fussy!
