I always love these types of threads as I get so many useful tips from them!

For me

BedHead Small Talk - for lifting limp hair - it's not super cheap but a tiny bit goes a long way. Use it every day

Rimmel ScandalEyes kohl pencil and Made by Mitchell All Smudge No Budge eyeliner - I wear eyeliner most days and these stay on for 12+ hours, and look really sharp - about £9-10 each

ELF Pout Clout pens and their glossy lip oils - about £8 and look and feel nice

Ponds cold cream - have tried other, fancier cleansers but keep coming back to this

The Ordinary 0.2% retinol - also about £8 and use it almost nightly - together with marine collagen it's made a big difference to my skin

What are you go-to bargains?

Nivea Soft definitely - when I go on holiday and don’t want to take loads of different products it works to take my make up off and as a face and body moisturiser.

QuickNameChange22 · 03/10/2025 19:26

Aldi's setting spray (the dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray) is amazing, my makeup lasts all day which is a miracle with my oily skin!

Achewyhamster · 03/10/2025 19:31

My nails flake and snap all the time

I bought sally hanson nail strengthener (purple bottle) and I now have nails 3 times the length

It's a bugger to take off but I don't care

Cinaferna · 03/10/2025 19:38

Garnier Rose cleanser. About £3, but sometimes half price.

Nivea Q10 moisturisers - their pore minimiser works and the day cream is excellent. But I find the night cream too greasy. The Nivea Rose cream is a phenomenal bargain too. All between £4 and £8 when on offer and rarely more than about £11 or £12 when not.

Pretty much all Rimmel make up. It is excellent. The 24 hour London foundation is very good.

Ponds cocoa butter body lotion and hand cream is the only stuff that works on my and Dh's hands in winter to prevent them getting dry and sore.

Maybelline Colossal mascara.

That's interesting because I bought it and it didn't work for me at all. But the Superdrug own brand nail strengthener does.

And superdrugs just made my nails worse!

I tried it and gave up after a few months but bought the purple one on a whim in Asda

It's funny how things work for one and not the other

Another vote for elf halo glow - makes even the most knackered mum seem like I’ve actually slept.

theres a rimmel foundation with an orange lid that looks tacky but is gorgeous stuff.

KimHwn · 03/10/2025 20:14

I didn't know Nivea's blue tub was used for anything other than face! Astral is good top, though heavily scented (I love the smell though, very nostalgic for me!)
A TV MUA told me that rosehip oil was the best thing for skin and honestly, it's brilliant.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 03/10/2025 20:31

I might have to try Elf Halo Glow!

My skin isn't that lined and feels firm but I am so knackered from gym and kids I always look like a tragic ghost 😩

Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser
Maybelline Lifter Gloss and also Lifter Glaze
Eternite Under Eye Patches (from Home Bargains)
Meschett Cuticle Oil Pens (from Amazon)

Back in the day Nailtiques number 2. But it seems to be discontinued. Worked like a dream for me

sciaticafanatica · 03/10/2025 20:38

Blue pot Nivea put on at night is amazing

JSMill · 03/10/2025 20:56

Thanks for this thread. I’m particularly interested in nail strengtheners that actually work. I have just tried the Margaret Dabbs one and I am really disappointed with it. It peels off after a couple of days and I see no difference after two months.

Gowlett · 03/10/2025 21:04

No.7 make-up, the Pro Artist is very nice!

Often in 3 For 2 or other good discounts.

Olay anti wrinkle firm & lift. 50ml pots of day & night cream last about a month. Normally £6.50 each from Tesco on clubcard price

ColinVsCuthbert · 03/10/2025 21:12

Korean skincare courtesy of Amazon:

  • Laneige lip mask
  • Etude eye cream - it has delayed me from starting botox it is that good. I use it on my forehead too.

You mighr find nails improve with vitamin D tablets, mind did.

Feelinguselesssigh · 04/10/2025 09:17

The ordinary rose hip oil - everyday morning and night, am happy with how I look and am 50

also for free - face yoga. I do Pilates with Lisa one where she is wearing a black top. But others that people recommend?

I will give it a try. Thanks.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 02/10/2025 20:50

Are you using the standard Nivea creme on your face then? That's interesting! I feel like it would be too heavy but maybe I'll give it a try.

I use it too, and I am in my early forties and doing well wrinkle-wise. BUT, I have good genetics and the skincare subreddit tells me Nivea is very bad to use on one's face.

IAmUsingTheApplauseReactionSarcastically · 04/10/2025 11:24

The Poundland dupe of the Colour Wow Dream Coat spray is pretty good. My branch is closing down and I managed to pick up 2 bottles for £1 each (not a given in Poundland these days despite the name) yesterday.

Loopylalalou · 04/10/2025 11:40

I’ve taken my eye makeup off with Astral cream for the past 52 years. I’m a faded redhead with sensitive skin and it really cleans and I’ve never reacted to it.
Avon silicone glove hand cream - nothing better.

I must remember to take mine! I know my nails do improve when I Talke them regularly but just don’t take them often enough.

My recommendation is Boots Retinol Eye Cream.

Dove 1 minute super conditioner. I saw a dermatologist recommend it on TikTok so for £2 I gave it a go, and it’s brilliant. It’s done wonders for my daughter’s hair, 6 weeks of sun and chlorine damage over the summer had left her looking like a scarecrow, but one use of this transformed her hair!
