as i'm booked in to have it done and have heebiejeebies. it is to cover white hairs. she says she can match my hair colour and that it is a good first foray into colouring. i'm scared it will trash the texture of my hair and look obviously dyed.

TALK TO ME PEOPLE.

I had semipermanent about 6 weeks ago.

It looks good and hasn't trashed my hair at all.

I found it a bit dark at first but after about a week it faded to a much better shade.

I was persuaded by the girl to have a darker colour than I initially wanted.

Tbh I think I'll save the money and do it myself next time. But after 6 weeks the colour is definitely still there which is good.

suiledonn · 03/06/2008 14:22

I recently got a semipermanent colour to cover the greys that keep popping up. It matched my own colour so well that even dh didn't notice. It didn't change the texture of my hair at all. I never had my hair dyed before but was getting paranoid about the grey.

brimfull · 03/06/2008 14:22

Hardly anyone noticed I had had it done.It covered the few greys though.

Heathcliffscathy · 03/06/2008 14:24

ah. how can i avoid the bit dark at first bit?

OP posts:
brimfull · 03/06/2008 14:25

I guess by choosing a shade lighter than you think you want??

Head and shoulders faded mine

Heathcliffscathy · 03/06/2008 14:26

i use H&S anyway!

god i'm SO jittery about it....

I find semi permenant coluor always makes my hair really shiney and somehow it just behaves better after having it done. I only get it done about 4 times a year because it seems to last ages on my hair but that may be partly because I have it slightly darker than my natural shade.

WilyWombat · 03/06/2008 14:31

If she is any good at her job she will be able to make it as natural as you like.

Personally if im spending that much money I want people to notice it

Heathcliffscathy · 03/06/2008 14:32

what is your hair like used2be?

mine is very fine but loads of it, and greasy, can only wash it every 3 days, any more often than that means that it is lank after a couple of hours!

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 03/06/2008 14:33

i'm worried that as it is all one colour it won't look nice...but she wouldn't contemplate any more than semi-perm as i'm so jittery!

I have my hair coloured (semi-permanent) a colour very very similar to my natural shade, only better!

It always looks amazing just after it's been done, and for the first week or so - makes me look generally younger and healthier. My hair extra shiny and so on.

Looking forward to the next colour in 2 weeks.

pooka · 03/06/2008 14:36

Mine doesn't look like all one colour when it's done - the bits of my hair that are naturally lighter (not grey, but say more red than brown) still look lighter and so I don't look like I have a helmet of monotone colour.

I hope.....

MascaraOHara · 03/06/2008 14:37

I have semi-permanat, normally have it re-done every 4-6 weeks but hairderesser is a friend. semi-perm is better for your hair than perm and looks shinier..

pooka · 03/06/2008 14:38

Is good that you can't wash more than every few days, because the colour will prob last longer. Mine needs washing more frequently, though I do make a conscious effort to reduce washing it for a while to prolong the just been to the salon effect.

thefunkypea · 03/06/2008 14:38

Hi, sorry I didn't notice you'd replied to me on the other thread - been working!! for a change
I found that my hair condition improved, the texture was smoother and looked glossier. No-one noticed the fact it had been dyed, other than I got compliments cos it looked in better nick! Now, I've thrown caution to the wind and have a full head of highlights

Heathcliffscathy · 03/06/2008 14:41

pooka, that sounds great, same funkypea.

really good that not all one colour as that can't look natural can it?

just went and looked in room with glass ceiling and the white/grey has got to go. loads of it coming through on crown...

I asked my hairdresser about permanent colour, because I do seem to be getting more and more grey. However, the joy of the semi is that it fades, and you don't end up with roots that need retouching. Also it is much much better for your hair and makes it glossy rather than dry. Anyway, hairdresser said that my coverage of grey was so slight as to not need a permanent colour. {smug}

It is fab.

I use shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair (like charles worthington brunette one). But have used them for donkey's years so not sure if they prolong the effect or not.

MascaraOHara · 03/06/2008 15:06

semi-perm much better re. roots.

I also use a shamppo for coloured hair have recently settled on one called Frekkai (I think) and I've noticed a difference.. I normally alternate myine between some top end brands.

Try to avoid A/D Shampoos if you can.. I suffer a bit with flakey scalp but I try to use A/D shamp as infrequently as possible

used2bthin · 03/06/2008 22:16

Sorry Sophable I must've come off here after postig, my hair is quite fine too, dry at ends but I have to wash it every day or it gets greasy especially the fringe. Interesting that people are saying abotu anti dandruff shampoos making colour fade because I used one the first few weeks after havig my hair coloured the last time and was thinking it seems to have faded quickly compared to normal.

Tinker · 03/06/2008 22:30

I use semi-permanents at home and find that the conditioners enclosed are fantastic. Don't semi-permanents work by coating hair rather than penetrating (prob talking bollocks emoticon) which would mean they make hair feel/seem glossier. Does for me. I'm very grey at roots but they don't make my hair look like a block of colour. I'm sure a salon one would look even better. I avoid permanents now.

shreddies · 04/06/2008 08:16

Tinker, which semi permanents do you use? Are you talking about Clairol etc? Any top ones?

fishie · 04/06/2008 08:24

a thing to be aware of re semi permanents is that any which need to be mixed to activate will have some sort of bleaching agent in them.

i do mine at home and have had to stop using all the mainstream ones because my hair was getting far too light on the ends, looked awful when growign out/fading. that is probably why it doesn't look like block of colour as some hair has been more exposed than the rest. it's not neat peroxide but it certainly does have an effect. i think this is also what can upset the condition of hair, although agree the conditioners are excellent.

i am currently using daniel field which doesn't have bleach.

shreddies · 04/06/2008 08:30

I wondered about that, my hair is going gingery now and there are bits that go darker than the rest when I colour it as it is obviously more porous. I'm giving it a break for the mo. Will look at Daniel Field though

brimfull · 04/06/2008 19:57

so how does it look?

Tinker · 05/06/2008 00:20

shreddies - just the L'Oreal/Clairol/Garnier types. My hair probably actually looks crap though (does when I've not coloured it for a few weeks) but I'm not going lighter. Not checked whether have peroxide in; do they all or just the lighteners?
