Seriously, where are all the mid-range clothes at?

Looking to boost my autumn/winter wardrobe a bit with some smart casual knitwear. Need natural fibres, so high % of wool and cotton. No acrylic SHEIN shite, and no £300 Jigsaw jumpers either.

Does what I'm looking for exist for around £50-£60 an item? I'd like it to last, and have found some nice bits in & Other Stories and French Connection before, but they're a bit bland and colourless I find. I love bright block colours and classic slim fit stuff, so find the trendier shops pretty hopeless.

Cos?

Readyforslippers · 20/09/2025 21:49

If you feel too young for M&S then you're definitely not ready for Boden!

Pepperedpickles · 20/09/2025 21:50

Cheaper and nicer things from Tu, Next, H and M and even places like Matalan etc. To be honest I just shop all over the place and buy what I fancy. I really do like Tu though. Quality is similar to Next and M and S but cheaper.

Or nobody’s child 😂

Some nice jumpers in John Lewis (own brand ) at the moment - cashmere about £109 and good colours.
Id also go for Uniqlo

Iwantamarshmallowman · 20/09/2025 21:53

I quite like fat face

Gymbunny2025 · 20/09/2025 21:54

I’ve been tempted by Uniqlo but read some horror stories on here about returning so I’m holding out!

Quintsharkfishing · 20/09/2025 21:55

Crew clothing.

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 20/09/2025 21:55

This is where the big gap in the market is.

Nobody’s Child had some early promise but is now pretty meh.

Cos was my go to about five years ago but it’s now too hard to find clothes that work if you’re average height and petite.

I still have some success with &OtherStories, but similarly I find they’re not as reliable as they were before Covid.

And/Or and John Lewis Everyday occasionally have good stuff.

The quality of Zara is abysmal but at least they sometimes have decent styles.

Evenstar · 20/09/2025 21:58

Weird Fish have some nice cardigans and jumpers, but they are quite casual.

Divebar2021 · 20/09/2025 22:01

If you want natural fibres then forget H&M etc because I don’t think you’ll find much. M&S is ok for cashmere although you might want to look at the menswear for the fit. Uniqlo will have various merino wool options. John Lewis as suggested might be OK. If you want better quality you’ll need to spend a bit more money so maybe look at Vinted or some charity shops. I’ve just bought a vintage chunky wool sweater in a burnt orange red from the men’s section of my local charity shop but have previously found men’s cardigans ( Pringle) and cashmere sweater for under £10.

Londonexhile · 20/09/2025 22:05

Sugarhill Brighton?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 20/09/2025 22:13

H&M have a premium range that might work for fabric, but it tends to stick firmly to classic black/grey/navy etc.

Ilovemyshed · 20/09/2025 22:13

Hobbs?

Acatinthehat · 20/09/2025 22:22

I’m in my thirties, thought I was far too young for M+S but actually some of their stuff recently has been great. Other than that - ASOS, John Lewis, Mint Velvet (a bit pricier), Mango, Oliver Bonas, and other stories, Linenfox for summer stuff is lovely. I use Vinted a lot as well! I do agree though, it’s really tough finding that in between pricing, sometimes investing in a staple piece for your wardrobe goes a long way.

Onanotherhealthkick · 20/09/2025 22:23

I’m looking for the same. Had a dismal and depressing visit to my nearest city this morning- every shop had beige grey and wine coloured clothes in man made fibres. Utterly depressing.

Cremefraicheeee · 20/09/2025 22:26

Nobody’s Child is shit quality now, they’ve gone massively downhill

PandorasMailbox · 20/09/2025 22:26

Nobody's Child has some lovely pieces, and a lot of their stuff is made from sustainable and recycled fibres.

Motherofdragons24 · 20/09/2025 22:29

I was on m&s recently and they have some lovely autumn stuff out.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 20/09/2025 22:32

I second those who’ve suggested Sugarhill Brighton.

mamagogo1 · 20/09/2025 22:33

My dd is a big Seasalt fan at 24, comfortably, good patterns and smart enough for work but casual enough for weekends

EveningSpread · 20/09/2025 22:33

I like Cos and Arket. Clothes are often 100% cotton/wool etc. I like Toast for some things but that can get pretty pricey!

Ophy83 · 20/09/2025 22:34

Colorful Standard

Joeydoesntsharefood25 · 20/09/2025 22:38

I love Monki, Lucy and Yak, Passenger, Me&Em, Scamp and Dude for quirky, colourful comfy clothes
