Just turned 35 with 4 month old baby & am returning to grown-up job in 2 month's time (yikes!). Need to rethink my hair as the whole highlghts/long curly mane thing is doing me no favours for a bunch of reasons! I need a hairdresser with some imagination & vision who can look at my face shape/hear about my lifestyle & recommend a style & colour for me. As this is a bit of a major job I'll be prepared to pay more than I usually would - any ideas?!

Glass hair Salon, Carthusian Street- round corner to Barbican tube. Cut and dry from £60 -ish.

They have a website.

MinkyBorage · 02/06/2008 20:08

I would really recommend Darren from Mahogany just off Hanover Square (just off Oxford Street/Regent Street). I have stalked him for years, he used to be creative Director at Vidal Sassoon on St Moulten Street. He has curly hair as does his wife whose hair he cuts so reckon he'd be a good bet. Think about £80 for a cut.

Charles Worthington - Percy Street (near TC Road or Covent Garden). Anyone - they're all excellent

crumpet · 02/06/2008 20:34

Georgie at John Frieda off South Audley St. Pushing £100 though

flamingnora · 02/06/2008 20:45

Squeaver - I have also heard good things about Charles Worthington, so thanks for that! MinkyBorage, I like the sound of Darren (it's great to know a bit about a hairdresser's CV!). I'm based in Peckham but am prepared to travel (within reason) for a good re-style!

Crumpet - John Frieda sound fab BUT they irritatingly won't colour your hair unless you go in before your appointment for a strand test - and I just don't have the time for multiple visits! Littlelapin & girlnextdoor - I'm looking at your recommendations too - many thanks!

I'm also blessed (or cursed!) with curly hair - thinking of going for a Beth Rowley-esque bob but don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb!

Try Michael Van Clarke on Beaumont St in W1 - I have a very curly unruly hair and they gave me the best haircut ever (and I used to go to John Frieda) for a lot less than Mayfair salons.

hoxtonchick · 02/06/2008 21:15

oooh, equally close to work, thanks DiL. this is my new favourite thread . how much did you pay?

emma, at toni and guy davis st, she used to be fab at cutting my friends curly locks, she has very curly hair herself. she was on maternity leave but you could call.shes the manager.

specialmagiclady · 02/06/2008 21:16

Andrew Jose on Charlotte St are excellent - especially for colour. Slightly cheaper and the only reason I'd move back to London, the Klinik in Exmouth Market. Anna is fantastic and is also a Sarf Landan mum!

drowninginlaundry · 02/06/2008 21:18
