Which shoes with wide leg trousers over winter?

I have been enjoying wearing wide leg trousers recently but as we approach winter I'm not sure what shoes to wear with them. I usually wear flat boots at work from about September to April. Is that going to go? Any other tips?
Thanks

Cowboy boots and brogues

foodtoorder · 15/09/2025 19:11

I'd like some suggestions too other than converse/adidas trainers

sparkle17 · 15/09/2025 19:25

Yeah it's to avoid trainers all the time. I'm tall so I don't really like wearing boots with a heel.

I'll probably be wearing more skirts and dresses

I have lug soled boots that imo go with wide leg jeans.

I like flat(ish) pointed sling backs with mine. They work with a midi skirt too.

I have been thinking about this too OP, so interested in seeing what suggestions you get. I have some chunky black lace up shoes that go well with some wide-leg tailored trousers, but they are cuffed. I feel that something pointy toes would work well with non-cuffed trousers, but I don’t always want to wear a heeled boot, and point flats are often very flat so not good in awful weather (and not much support either).

juliette2010 · 16/09/2025 14:12

chunky loafers??

Channellingsophistication · 16/09/2025 14:32

Following to as I'd like to know. Love the idea of brogues..

Chocolateteabag · 16/09/2025 14:35

I am 5ft9 so heels often make my wide legs look too short. I have a pair of Doctor Marten Chelsea boots with a thick sole
I think wide legs need a fairly chunky shoe to keep the proportions right?

Silverbirchleaf · 16/09/2025 14:37

Read recently that brogues are back for this winter.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 16/09/2025 14:51

I wear chunky loafers / trainers / pointy flats or heels :)

Xiaoxiong · 16/09/2025 14:55

Am at a conference with lots of women wearing wide leg trousers and the majority are wearing loafers, either chunky or pointy.

I predict when winter/rain comes there will be a lot of Chelsea boots and brogues as well.

Thanks for asking this … I’ve been wondering what to wear with wide leg jeans/ cargos other than trainers over winter

Yeah same, I don’t feel they look right with more delicate shoes

BollyKnickerz · 16/09/2025 15:05

I've been pondering over the exact same thing too and have not come up with anything!!

Iloveeverycat · 16/09/2025 15:12

I have a lot of trouble with wide leg trousers being too short on me as I am tall. I have some patterned ones which I love and have now decided to wear like culottes now mid heel boots. There seems to be a lot of colottes about online at the moment.

minipie · 16/09/2025 15:19

Think you’ll need something with a chunky sole to avoid the wide leg trousers soaking up the puddles…?

Yep. I’ll probably be banished from Style and Beauty but I’m a fan of nude tights and a slip. So any shoes work with a skirt/dress and my legs aren’t cold.

Even when I commuted to London with a 20 min walk at the other end (albeit in trainers) I was rarely in trousers for work. Now I drive and park at the office, it’s even less of an issue.

MinwallaModel · 16/09/2025 15:26

Wide leg trousers, in my opinion, aren’t very practical in the winter as they soak up water from puddles. I’ll be interested in suggestions on this thread. I really miss my skinny jeans and boots.

Nice but not ideal in wet or wintery weather.

Cinaferna · 16/09/2025 15:30

I'm wearing lace up mid calf boots with kitten heel - slightly Victorian vibe - with my velvet cord wide legs, or chunky ankle boots with wide leg jeans. Neither of them quite work.

MustDust · 16/09/2025 15:34

Jumping on as I've been living in trainers with mine. I do have a pair of Office trainer style shoes with a thick sole that look OK, but they're not comfy, I've got so used to trainers I've considered buying leather ones for winter!

Me too. I’ve got some lovely wide leg jeans now but I live rurally and can’t see me wearing them at all in the winter.

Skinny jeans and boots were so practical as your feet stayed nice and dry!

schmarg · 16/09/2025 15:42

I’m a trainer addict but I would wear brogues or loafers with wide legged trousers. For some reason I don’t think boots work
