Cashmere twinset - yay or nay?

Boden has some cashmere jumpers & cardigans this season in colours that really suit me ( leaf green melange and mocha). A bonus being 15% off atm.
I'm late 50s, size 12/14, hourglass with large chest.
I love the idea of a twinset, but worry it would look dated. I probably like it because I wore similar decades ago.
I'm talking about a round neck jumper and cardigan.
Do I size up to look more current?? Or is it just a no?
I want to finally start buying myself nice things and want longevity. Simple is good. I like plain, uncluttered, semi-fitted. I am very (too) casual most of the time ( but want to up my game with good use of colour, texture etc). I don't need to worry about work clothes.
I don't like being cold, so double cashmere sounds lush!

You're welcome @damemaggiescurledupperlip .
They remind me of Unisex Double Weave Hakama Trousers | MUJI

Also might look good with a twinset
Women's Cotton Cool Touch Wide Leg Culottes | MUJI

I like those trousers @damemaggiescurledupperlip - but WHY is absolutely everything completely out of stock at M&S online?

Are they still having cyber issues or is something else going on? I can’t get to an M&S store that isn’t a ‘Simply Food’ so I’m not a happy bunny!

BotterMon · 15/09/2025 17:51

A tank with cardigan would be lovely. I'd sweat buckets in double cashmere!

Would look nice in different colours too.

flatfelled · 15/09/2025 17:51

Love the Poetry culottes. Definitely need a trying on session (& a rummage. I would never have pulled out those M&S ones). I agree, there seem to be some more interesting shapes out now.

Round neck jumpers can make you look a bit frumpy if you've got large boobs. V necks are much more flattering.

Agree with this - also double sleeves would make me look chunky. With my large bust - I avoid a crew neck - scoop, v or boat works better for me.

Everyonesawher · 15/09/2025 20:22

Also think it’s best to have same colour top and bottom with culottes and skirts if short.

I don't think crew necks are particularly flattering on anyone, but busty ladies really should avoid them. The worst ones make your boobs look like a shelf attached to your chest. Not a great look.

UpMyself · 15/09/2025 20:37

I've been told I'm busty and V-necks make me look huge. Polo necks are worse still.

It’s all the extra fabric extending up from your chest which makes it look like more of the already large chest - a scoop or a V breaks up the load and is much more flattering on me.

Pure Wool Pleated Wide Leg Trousers | Autograph | M&S
These ones, @damemaggiescurledupperlip ?

Love these - out of stock, though.

Everything I’ve looked at online this week is out of stock. And in the Harrogate store about a month ago there were only sizes 6 and 20 on the rails for every day clothes but tons of 100% polyester occasion wear.

There was a whole rail (about 30 pieces) of long cream chiffon ra-ra skirts, all size 12. They must still be really struggling with logistics.

I’m hoping that stuff hasn’t come in yet rather than it being sold out. It’s still only September!

IDontHateRainbows · 15/09/2025 22:31

I always say im so far behind the curve, im ahead of the next curve and I recently bought a twinset so that must mean they're coming back.

TATT2 · 15/09/2025 23:08

Agree with PP - stay classic, and forget sizing up. I think they are lovely with wide leg trousers and also cropped cigarette trousers, depending on your shape. Go for it.

Beesandhoney123 · 15/09/2025 23:21

My teen dug out my long packed away twinset - cashmere vest top and cardigan- is that a twinset? and wears it everywhere. It looks fab on her, but she is slim- it clings round my middle now and I prefer something more forgiving.

They are lovely, but not with pearls anymore.

User21548967 · 15/09/2025 23:44

I remember having a twinset from Principles in my 20s. I loved it.
I tried one on recently but it was too much. I'm size 12 with a large bust so not not flattering.
I think wearing with wool trousers would look outdated.
Culottes or wide leg jeans sounds great.

Even the homeware is out of stock so I presume its a logistic issue rather than a huge rush to buy particular pieces.

Gettingbysomehow · 16/09/2025 04:42

I just wouldn't wear pearls with it!

MaxineHarper · 16/09/2025 05:03

I think it looks nice on a slim frame. I am large busted and would not wear a twin set as it looks matronly and therefore aging and unflattering.

Floisme · 16/09/2025 06:43

I like them. If the pieces are sold separately, I might try it with the jumper and cardigan in different colours, just for a fresh take.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/09/2025 12:04

Gorgeous. I might treat myself. I would wear with wide legged cord trousers as I'm short and really don't like culottes on me.

Clumsycorvid · 16/09/2025 12:05

I love twinsets and I'm 31!

Everyonesawher · 16/09/2025 12:35

I can’t see on the Boden site that they have created / styled a twin set by wearing long sleeved cardi over long sleeved jumper in cashmere - even on their skinny models it would be bulky on the arms - they just show them as individual pieces - except where they’ve used a sleeveless tank beneath the cardi.

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 16/09/2025 14:47

If you’re watching, Johnnie, now is time for a 25% cashmere code ….

henlake7 · 16/09/2025 15:22

I couldnt. Im fairly slim and dont have big boobs but they make me feel and look like Im about 80.
I think its just a classic, elegant look though, which are 2 words that dont describe me at all!
