Is this dress too pale for a black tie wedding?

I'm going to a wedding in October which has a black tie dress code. I've bought this beautiful Adrianna Papell dress off Vinted and it fits me amazingly but now I'm worried it's too pale! It's a kind of grey/sage green colour.

Blimey I must have been going to different black tie events because this dress definitely fits within the very wide range of outfits that I’ve seen at such things. It’s pretty, appropriate and not remotely “bridal”.

PS to me, black tie means cocktail dress (usually knee length) so this is more formal rather than less.

”cocktail” is knee length, “black tie” traditionally full length, but things really are a lot more flexible these days.

This. Black tie should always be full length for women, but as a PP said - what was the bride’s intention? Because that matters more tbh, if she just means ‘glam’ (ie cocktail) then you can definitely go shorter. If she genuinely means black tie - tuxes for men, long for women - you should dress accordingly.

It looks like a wedding dress. And many wedding dresses now are a subtle shade of colour so no - too pale. Maybe you can get an expert to dye it?

I think this is a new/American thing. I’ve been going to black tie events for 30 years and full length is definitely not a traditional black tie requirement for women. If anything it’s a bit inappropriate because it’s straying in to white tie territory. It needs to be “eveningy” but not necessarily full length IMNVHO

I think it is an American approach yes. I know this because I wore a midi dress to a black tie wedding in London with a lot of American guests and I was hideously underdressed compared to them. They all looked utterly fabulous with amazing dresses with giant bows, metallic or interesting structures. Never again! Always full length dress if black tie!

Its beautiful but too bridal. If there's a darker shade id get that
