Is Tissot a classy watch & good quality?

Thinking of buying myself a nice watch as a birthday present to myself. I've never had a designer watch, I only own two - one's a steampunk watch from etsy (which I love!), and the other's a high street watch with different coloured straps. I really like the idea of a more 'ladylike' watch for want of a better description - something two tone and metal, so that it looks like jewellery.

Something like this: https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-gb/T1292102203100.html

Is Tissot worth the money? Are there any other brands with similar looking watches that would be better (I really like this classic style and I want something that will last forever!) Thanks

I got a Tissot watch similar to the one you are looking at for my birthday 3 years ago. It looks great and had no issues with it. I did have to get the bracelet adjusted for a good fit, so I'd suggest buying in a shop so they can adjust to fit when you buy it.

If you love it, go for it! Happy Birthday!

I do have a similar one to the one on the link. It is fine but i don’t wear it because the hands are too small and i cant see them if i am not wearing my glasses (which i only need for reading). I wear a similar looking amazon watch, the hands are bigger and i cant see them see them without glasses. So i say if you dont need glasses for reading, go for it!

Happy birthday OP!

I've been looking at exactly the same watch for a birthday present for myself. I love it.

I'm just hesitating as someone told me Tissot watches are more likely to cause skin allergies than other brands. They are stainless steel but I wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

LastKnownSurvivor · 23/08/2025 08:15

I have never had a rash from my Tissot watch, which I have had for two years, though I do normally get a rash from any metal which isn't silver/gold.

I really like it - it's a quality watch without being ostentatious.

ETA mine is also a Classic Dream as in the link.

I wanted to spend a bit more than usual on a watch and after a lot of research I bought an automatic Tissot. I love it. They seem to be on the cheaper end for a 'proper' watch, rather than an expensive fashion watch.

I got a Tissot watch from my grandfather when I graduated from university more than 20 years ago. It still looks good and runs perfectly.

MirrorMirror1247 · 23/08/2025 08:34

My boyfriend is very into watches and loves his Tissot.

Comefromaway · 23/08/2025 08:35

Yes, Tissot are known to be good quality watches at that price point.

i have a Citizen watch but I don’t recommend them as the Ecodrive stops working after about 10 years.

Cinaferna · 23/08/2025 08:36

I love those two-tone watches. I used to have one and lost it. Now I'm tempted again.

PashaMinaMio · 23/08/2025 08:37

It’s easy to Google “Tissot watch history” to read the background of the company. They’re a Swiss company and seem to have integrity and a long history. From what I read, their watches are not made in China!

You’ve chosen a lovely looking watch. Do your due diligence, ask the retailer for more product information and if you’re reassured, go for it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/08/2025 08:38

I've had one similar for 20 years and it's as perfect as the day I bought it, no issues at all and I wear it most days.

So do I, any other jewellery goes with them.

FatLarrysBanned · 23/08/2025 08:40

I've had mine for 10 years, worn daily. Needed 2 repairs in that time (one within the first year when the whole thing just stopped working covered under warranty), second time the crown broke off after about 5 years and a local watch repairer replaced it for £30. I'd still get another one. It's a beautiful watch to wear.

I got one for my 30th. I’m 44 soon and still love my Tissot, never had any problems.

landlordhell · 23/08/2025 08:42

It’s a Swiss watch so will be good quality and reliable. My 21st birthday present was a Tissot watch and I still have it. It still works. I’m 54

WashableVelvet · 23/08/2025 09:08

I have one, a stainless steel automatic. Wear it every day. No ‘point’ these days to the automatic movement given quartz is cheaper and more accurate, but I find the idea appealing ever since reading Dava Sobel’s book Longitude 20+ years ago!

I have very reactive skin and have never reacted to it.

I suggest going to a shop and trying a few on to see what size etc works best for your size/shape of wrist.

applepinkierainbow · 23/08/2025 10:05

I have had this watch for 15 years now and finally had to get it serviced this year as it started eating batteries. I had a real debate as to whether to buy a new one as the full service with a watch specialist was £100 but I am really pleased I did. Watch looks great and the glass was polished and catch tightened and all works well. I think they are lovely well priced watches which go with both my gold and silver jewellery.

ThePoetsWife · 23/08/2025 10:09

highly recommend Tissot too - very classic and will not date as I’ve had mine 27 years

LastKnownSurvivor · 23/08/2025 10:48

I do recommend Beaverbrooks as a seller, as they will sit you down and bring as many watches as you like for you to try on, offer you a drink etc. No affiliation to them, I hasten to add, but they do give you that VIP feeling!

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/08/2025 10:50

I have one and I absolutely love it. I think they're really good value for money at that price point.

bugalugs45 · 23/08/2025 11:51

I have a citizen that is very similar looking and was a similar price , it’s almost 10 years old and still looks fantastic . Not sure if it’s or are kinetic but citizen eco drive are kinetic so never need a battery which was a massive plus for me

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 23/08/2025 12:13

Yes, and it's always better to choose a watchmaker rather than a fashion or jewellery brand who happens to offer watches. The other option I'd consider at that price point would be Seiko but if you want Swiss-made then Tissot is an excellent choice.

I have this one and I love the little mother of pearl detail.

That's beautiful. I think Tissot are amazing value.

4Tornot4T · 23/08/2025 14:21

Thank you to everyone who has confirmed they didn't have a reaction to their Tissot. I'm going to treat myself for my birthday.

I hope you love the watch you choose OP and have a fantastic birthday xx
