What Can I Do To Improve The Look Of This

I’m 50 and relatively lucky in that I don’t have any noticeable wrinkles apart from on this area of my mouth/chin/jaw. I hate the texture and look of it. I use Tret already and have done for years but can I do anything else to make it smoother looking?

It’s probably not massively noticeable unless close up, but still! Also, excuse my whiskers if you zoom in…wax booked for Saturday!😂

Thank you.

I have these and was told hydralauric acid (that's not spelled right) for marionette lines, I didn't bother though.

jamnpancakes · 22/08/2025 12:25

You could get a little bit of filler in your marionette lines. Left side of your face needs more than the right. It won't cost much and makes a heck of a difference.

Mauvehoodie · 22/08/2025 12:30

Tretinoin will help general texture/fine lines but is a longer term thing. I use skin&me and find it has helped a lot and they include other ingredients that will help your skin and will also enable you to increase the % of tretinoin gradually. Dermatica do a similar service).

Someone recently posted about using the Ordinary's Argeline and matixyl layered (not sure I've spelt those right). I'll see if I can dig out the thread. Here it is: www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5350305-2-new-beauty-buys-i-am-really-pleased-with-and-that-actually-work-are

I think you can have orthodontic work done that adds bulk to your gums, thus supporting the structure of your face in that area. Not sure if this is only if you have dentures fitted as a friend of mine did.

Interesting to learn the limits of Tretinoin!

hobbledyhoy · 22/08/2025 12:45

Just out of interest, what side do you tend to sleep on?

PeonyPatch · 22/08/2025 13:10

Tretinoin or retinol!

Recommend Medik8, start low and work up.

Alternatively, Botox for a tweakment!

Faineante · 22/08/2025 13:20

My comment on Tretinoin was responding to the OP saying she has been using it for some time v

Mauvehoodie · 22/08/2025 13:33

Sorry, I missed the bit about using tret already, ignore that bit of my post. I did reread the other thread about the Angeline and Matrixes and have now bought those so will see how they go.

Far easier and quicker to have a bit of filler!

PeonyPatch · 22/08/2025 13:36

Oh sorry I missed that you’re already using tret

in that case, I’d look at skin rejuvenation treatments such as laser resurfacing, profhilo or Botox for marionette lines

It's filler for marionette lines.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 22/08/2025 15:44

Thank you everyone! I’ll have a look into all of the suggestions. I’m always a bit wary of filler as I only ever see it when it’s obvious, but then I suppose if it was done well I wouldn’t notice at all. I think my dentist does aesthetic treatments so I might enquire there.

I’ve used Tret (or another retinoid) for years mainly for acne but never go above 0.5% strength as it just makes me peel loads and doesn’t seem to get better even after a while.

I did wonder about resurfacing type treatments as my chin looks has a jacket potato texture!😂 I don’t know if that’s a long term effect of acne as my chin was one of my worst places before I got it under control, or just ageing!

Mostly my left, but not always.

I also have TMJ disorder so I often think my mouth looks a little lopsided!

A thread lift could work too

DameDoom · 22/08/2025 17:38

A course of Morpheus 8 would retexturise and tackle some wrinkles and sag. I have a course of 3 every year and it has helped enormously. It isn’t a face lift but really does address the areas you are concerned about. Doesn’t work immediately as collagen needs to rebuild but I swear by it now. The texture on my chin was a real issue. In the meantime, a good chemical exfoliator would also help if you don’t already use one.

I think you are right as regards your last paragraph.

How can filler be obvious in the marionette lines? I think you are confusing pillow face up around the cheeks with lower face?

Believe me you won't believe the difference it will make to you. Just get someone good.

Thank you for this. I’ll have a read up. I used to use the Paula’s Choice BHA one but I only did it about once a week. I only use Tret every other day and then once every 6 days or so I would do the PC one instead of using Tret. That’s about as much knowledge of chemical exfoliators I have.

Thank you! Do you think the dentist would be a good place to start? I have no idea what I’m looking for!

Also, what do you mean by this?

“I think you are confusing pillow face up around the cheeks with lower face?”

I have the same problem with the skin texture on my chin, so following with interest.
Tret did nothing for me (apart from giving me extremely shiny skin).

People are sometimes referred to as having pillow face when they get too many cheek fillers. See attached. I've seen pillow face but never anyone with too much filler in their marionette lines.

Google in your area for practitioners, read their reviews and research. Ask for recommendations in your area.

I have seen alot of people with filler that's sagged from marionette lines down and left a lumpy jaw. I would look at others first.

SliceofTosst · 27/08/2025 21:22

Filler in that area works wonders.
