Evening Wedding in Spain.

I have just bought this dress for a semi formal evening wedding in Spain in late September.
I am a size 12 and it fits like a dream.

I'm going to wear some nude low heeled sandals and gold jewellery, probably earrings and a chunky bangle.

I am going to need a cover up as the meal and reception are being held in an outdoor restaurant. What would be the best choice?
I have a lovely edge to edge cream cotton knee length jacket but it might be too heavy/formal for eating.
I was thinking of a crocheted or quilted cotton waist length jacket? I am hoping for other ideas please!

Not sure there’s any point arguing about it or commenting further, OP appears to be long gone….!

You've got a point, I posted just in case she gets notifications and wanted to continue reading opinions even if she doesn't want to post anymore.

In that case, we have to disagree.

I've attended many weddings over the years and being too formal is long gone. Most people, IMO, go for a quiet refined look these days.

That’s interesting - I went to a Catalan funeral last year and was surprised how informally people dressed. Many were in jeans, including the older generation- smart tops/shirts and still looking well turned-out, but definitely smart casual.

I was originally going to wear a dress, which is what I’d wear to a funeral here, but would have been way overdressed so was glad I didn’t.

Deleting duplicate post.

To be honest with you, I think most women in Spanish weddings are “disfrazadas”. Too many gowns and imposible shoes and hairdos and you can see they are not used to them and cannot pull the intended look off.
However, I have seen that dress in store and is not wedding-y enough, even for the most informal of weddings. Looks really like a beach dress and even the right accessories won’t make that right.

Not just a Catalan funeral. Dressing all over Spain is informal - jeans and a casual top, even with sandals are what most people wear in funerals.

As long as you don't dress in a Carmen Miranda, look at me outfit, we wear casual wear.

This is rather nice and would look great with jeans too.

Ooh, that's lovely! X

I met a friend for coffee recently and she was wearing this very dress - she looked fabulous. She was wearing a cream jacket with it, but for a wedding I think a shawl would be better.

TizerorFizz · 23/08/2025 23:32

It’s cotton jersey so not intended for a wedding. More drinks after a day on the beach. There are styles like this elsewhere but nicer fabrics that aren’t like a t shirt.

Much nicer detailing on these from M&S.

Hi so sorry, life got in the way!
Thank you for posting all your suggestions and opinions.
The dress is chocolate and the skirt is not plain jersey, it’s textured.
I love it and plan to go to town on dramatic accessories which ensure it looks good.
I am not one of the wedding party so I’m sure with hair and nails it will be dressy enough.
I am not really a shawl person and wonder if will be forever dropping it or finding it trailing behind me.☺️
Obviously I am hoping that I won’t need anything but I hate being chilled.
Again thank you all so much, I do think a silk kimono jacket might look good.
I will read through properly tomorrow if I manage to get some sleep tonight.

I don’t ever post but saw this and just had to add this - you’ll have to be quick coz there’s only one left… https://www.wolfandbadger.com/uk/goddess-gold-tunic/
I think if you like the dress and you feel fabulous then you will look fabulous - and this might even glam it up a bit. I love the gold edging and the colour would go great with your chocolate brown dress. Hope you have an amazing evening 😊
