Holiday: UK city break
packed: 3 Nobody’s Child dresses
1 pair of sandals and 1 pair of Converse
4 pairs of trainer socks
Underwear
Toiletries that are running out and that I will be able to finish on the break
Packed in a le Pliage bag
1 bag for out and about
Coach bag for makeup and tech stuff
1 foldable shopper with breakfast items that can be folded up and stashed travelling back

I have gone pretty minimal.

How many nights are you away? Are you going to wear the dresses all day and not change for dinner/ going out in the evening? Not judging just asking

Daisydoesnt · 29/07/2025 10:48

And how are you traveling? If you’re going by car (you said it’s UK) is packing very minimal necessary?

I always pack too much but I have a dilema in that I am going away for 10 days, 5 uk seaside holiday, 5 working in an office. Also need to get my sons stuff for 10 days in the suitcase, its a 4 hour train journey each way!

JMAngel1 · 29/07/2025 19:24

I’ve just started packing and finding it a bit stressful. It’s 5 nights in Paris then 5 nights at a more relaxing hotel in the Dordogne.
So far I’m planning:
Cream and black polka dot midi ruffle dress
Green and pink tie dye style mesh dress
Blue midi dress with cut out waist
Bright green tube midi dress
Bandeau Zebra print long dress
Dusky blue cami midi dress
emerald green wrap satin skirt
2 pairs denim shorts - both distressed/faded/slouchy style.
4 cami tops - kind of ruffled or just plain cowl satin style that can be mixed and matched with skirt and shorts
2 swimsuits - teal blue and raspberry
1 cropped trench coat
1 cream blazer
1 pair tan flat strappy sandals
1 pair Tokyo OG trainers
1 pair tan cowboy boots
1 cream leather MJ hobo bag
1 gold/cream clutch bag
I’m thinking of taking a long cream trench coat as well in case it rains - weather can be very unpredictable in France!
In Paris, not planning to “get ready”
for evenings so the one dress will be worn all day. I’m then hoping to re-wear the Paris dresses in Dordogne for meals out after swimsuits/shorts by the pool. Will probably bring some travel wash just in case.
Do you think I’ll have enough?

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 29/07/2025 19:38

JMAngel looks plenty.
I'm off on a beach holiday. I've got:
2 swimming costumes, 2 bikini bottoms, 1 top.
3 cover ups and 2 sarongs.
4 things for day - b/w T-shirt dress, khaki t-shirt dress, 2x shorts and vest tops.
4x things for evening - black maxi dress, black midi dress, khaki midi dress, leopard print skirt.
Brown bag, gold bag, 2x flip flops, jewellery, hat.

OP - what happens if the temperature drops/it rains?

I’ve managed to buy some jeans I wanted for autumn so all I would need is a top to go with my jeans and cardigan. I also have an umbrella.

26deg in London next week, I've swapped the jeans for chinos and put back one dress.

evtheria · 04/08/2025 20:10

Right, have a few days until I go away for a month… with backpack only! Any advice/tips for my current list?

Duration: 27 days
Where: Southern and some Central Europe (temps currently range from 23° to 36°)
Vibe: Mostly busy cities, with some beach, lake and mountain time
Other details: 2-3* living, but would like to have some meals out at night and look elegant while doing so! Will have access to a communal laundromat every week to wash clothing.

Wearing on plane: 1 long sleeved shirt over a tube top, ‘technical’ fabric trousers, everyday walking/running trainers, baseball hat, a l/sleeve tee (slightly thicker cotton) tied around waist
Packing: 6 plain tees/tanks, 2 summer trousers, 1 linen smarter shorts, 1 runners shorts, 1 long linen wrap skirt, 1 patterned skort, 1 linen minidress, 1 patterned silk tea dress, 2 swim cozzies 1 bikini, 7 knickers, 2 extra bras, 2 extra pairs socks, 1 pair normal flip flops, 1 pair of teva sandals (pictured)

Accessories: 1 uniqlo crossbody bag, 1 pair sunglasses, a wide gold cuff, 2 small cotton bandanas of diff colours, a pac-a-bag to expand once over there (can carry my trainers about then)

Are the sandals (not my image) nice enough for wearing to restaurants? Or should I really pack a fashionable slim pair of trainers for in the cities instead? I am not planning to purchase clothing over there, which I know some people like to do.

What have you packed for your holiday?
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2025 20:17

Just done a 3 night city break:
2 pairs of loose wide patterned trousers
1 pair linen trousers
2 crochet waistcoats
1 tube dress
1 skirt
1 linen shirt
couple of black vest tops
trainers
heeled sandals
denim jacket
raincoat
Felt I got it right, although could have managed without one of the waistcoats

Now packing for ten night 'hot' holiday and am thinking:
2 pairs black linen shorts
1 pair denim shorts
1 pair printed shorts
lots of vest tops in black and in white
couple of white t-shirts
3 long thin cotton 'beach shirts' to wear with the vests and shorts, or over swimwear
2 prettier broderie cropped shirts
2 midi skirts
4 or 5 thin cotton midi dresses
sandals
flip flops
Teva walking sandals
2 x swimwear
sarong

I will wear things a couple of times and am also packing some handwashing stuff.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2025 20:19

For UK, I'd definitely want to pack a light raincoat as the weather has been so changeable lately.

Eunomia · 04/08/2025 20:35

Just back from a seven night holiday in the sun. Mistakes I made:

  1. assumed we would eat out every night so bought seven new dresses for dinner. In fact only at out twice and ordered room service the rest of the time as we got back later to the hotel than we thought we would and were knackered.
  2. didn’t really cater for “in between” times when I was just at the hotel - so not eating out or by the pool. Ended up buying some lounging around clothes while there.
defrazzled · 04/08/2025 20:39

I'm backpacking around Thai island for 2 weeks with DD20, scuba diving:
5 bikinis (ulla Johnson, zimmerman, 2 x Melissa Odabash, Lisa Marie Fernandez)
1 swimsuit (Norma Kamali)
1 knee length swimsuit (Finesterre)
3 shorts (skin, Rag and Bone, Bam)
4 vest tops (2 x nike, skin, Bam)
5 dresses (2 x sea NY, ulla johnson, Wiggy Kit, pleats pleae)
1 long skirt (Artket)
1 Issey Miyake pleats please shorts/t shirt set
Birkenstocks
pool sliders (speedo)
Nike air sandals
Kate Bush towel 😂
14 pants (M&S)
3 bras (Bam)
3 socks (Bam)
3 shorts/camisole PJs (skin)
Its all packed and not too heavy!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2025 20:41

I keep notes on my phone now after trips away, to remind me of anything I was missing or got wrong.

Last year's sun holiday notes = 'Needed more vest tops' and 'Needed water shoes'. I've addressed both of those in this year's packing!

defrazzled · 04/08/2025 20:43

@evtheria what shoes are you wearing on the plane? Walking boots or similar? I think the sandals are fine with a dress for an evening out - they are elegant and not "sporty" - I like them!

We do this. We also note how much sun cream we actually used.

I think you've got too much and if I were tigid go for separates that mix and match for daytime.

SiobahnRoy · 04/08/2025 20:56

Tuscany 2 weeks villa with washing machine and pool, probably eating out on day trips rather than going out for the evening.
4 smartish dresses
3 more casual dresses
2 linen trousers
3 tops
2 Birkenstocks
2 flat but smart sandals
denim jacket for travel
trainers for travel
3 swimwear
underwear

I think that sounds fine in terms of quantity but you will have to really carefully pack all that linen to not end up really creased.

Most hotels have irons though, surely?
