Beyond the High Street

I'd like to start a collaborative thread for everyone to contribute shops, designers or online clothing sources that they love or think others might like. It's easy to get stuck in a rut of available high street shopping, but that choice is a becoming more limited as physical shops close.

There is a world of online shopping available, it does have disadvantages in terms of sizing and delivery charges but I think there is far more choice out there than just the high street.

This thread is an attempt to show what else is available across different price points and styles. It would be great if people could give an idea of what the brand is known for and it's price point. The brand/shop should have worldwide shipping so that all Mumsnet users can use them.

I'll start - I have no connection with these companies.

L F Markey UK based womenswear - strong focus on colour and casual wear. Price ££ - £££

Stable of Ireland Irish store promoting Irish design and production, natural fabrics, womenswear, menswear & accessories. Price ££-£££

Marimekko Finnish company - Womenswear, menswear, children's clothing, home wear and accessories - often does collaborations with Uniqlo. Price £ - £££

MOT Nigerian company - Womenswear, children's wear. Price ££

LF Markey

LF Markey Modern Basics and Luxury Workwear. Shop our signature boilersuits, dungarees & more innovative cuts, bold colours, and fine fabrics.

Does anyone have any recommendations for designers that make tops with interesting textures? I'm not a huge fan of prints or flouncy trims but am so bored of the lack of variety in styles of late.

@RodeoJoan I love a top (or any style of clothing actually) with interesting textures. Mainly because I’m a founder member of the anti-ironing club. 😛

Depending on your budget / tastes, Issey Miyake Pleats Please is always a good starting points for textured (and/or interesting cut) tops. Or there are a lot of Pleats Please ‘inspired’ copies around that are cheaper. Also have a look for brands like Thanny if you like the pleating but not the price. There’s an Aussie brand called Alquema (although they’re more dresses/jackets than tops) and a Lithuanian brand called Grizas that does some interesting silk/linen mix textured tops. Vinted is a good hunting ground.

Max Mara Group If you've ever wanted a Max Mara coat but didn't want to pay full price.

"As part of the Max Mara Fashion Group, Diffusione Tessile S.r.l manages and markets:

  • surplus items of the Group's Brands;
  • surplus fabrics and materials;
  • Intrend-branded garments manufactured by the company itself.

Belonging to one of the largest women's fashion groups in Italy, the brand offers a wide range of products, exceptional quality and very competitive prices."
