Can anything actually be done with this hair?

This is my hair drying naturally after about 1.5 hours. Still a little damp underneath.

It has a natural curl but ultra frizzy, as you can see. Is there actually any products or treatment that would genuinely help take it so I could avoid drying and straightening every time I wash it?

Im sick of spending money on products that promise the world and do sweet FA.

Have you tried methane? I’ve got similar frizzy hair but started using this a couple of weeks ago and it’s been great so far

Lottapianos · 16/07/2025 11:53

What products do you use currently?

Have you tried using a leave in conditioner to soaking wet hair after you wash it, comb through the gently squeeze the water out with a towel or old t-shirt? Then air dry or use hair dryer with diffuser - hover dry with the diffuser held a few inches away from the hair.

I wouldn't say it's ultra frizzy but could do with some more moisture and less heat

Pushmepullyou · 16/07/2025 12:03

Merwave not methane!! Don’t try methane!

Exactfare · 16/07/2025 12:04

Stop straightening it! Look at the curly girl method or a variant of, I think you've probably got curly hair not bad straight hair

GetADogUpYa · 16/07/2025 12:05

I tried every product known to man on my frizzy hair that's similar to yours and ended up with a haircut as that was the only thing that would help

Bitzee · 16/07/2025 12:06

Mine is the same. IMO no there isn’t a magic product. The upside is that a decent blow dry, and I’m well practiced so can get good results in about 30 mins, lasts 5-6 days so actually I’d consider it pretty low maintenance compared to hair that needs daily washing and styling.

minipie · 16/07/2025 12:06

I was a bit surprised at methane 😆

It looks like it needs a lot of moisture and then it may be properly wavy? So I would try things like hair masks, Argan oil, leave in conditioner, co wash where you just use conditioner to wash and maybe shampoo only once a week.

This, I have similar hair and I just towel dry and use mouse or something like Dream curls cream and scrunch it in

Witchyandtwitchy · 16/07/2025 12:09

Look up the ‘Wavy Hair Method by Charlotte Rich’ on Facebook.

CheshireCat1 · 16/07/2025 12:09

Have you tried the LOG method

GoldDuster · 16/07/2025 12:14

I think you've got to pick a side, unfortunately. You've got to stick with the straightners, or submit to the truth! There will be a bit of a transition period but you could step away from the heated tools, which are causing damage and frizz, and lean into what's there.

Try a curl cream on soaking wet hair and diffusing on low heat upside down, to encourage what's there and you might find your hair type needs a bit more hold, so you could add in a gel. It's a curse 😂 I hear you.

DuskyPink1984 · 16/07/2025 12:20

Have you tried putting some conditioner on the mid length and ends (do not rinse off) then twisting it into 2 sections to dry? Like 2 bunches but twisted, secure with a band and then pin in at the back and let it dry. That usually leaves my hair silky rather than big and frizzy.

IndianSummer78 · 16/07/2025 12:23

You may need several products at the styling stage not just one and you need to use enough to make a difference. Ignore the bottles telling you to use a coin-or-egg-sized amount, you could need a lot more. Try layering curl cream over mousse or a little oil through the lengths and ends with a decent amount of mousse afterwards. Some people's hair looks better with the products out on damp hair and some with products put on wet hair fresh from the shower, you'll need to experiment. Some people get a good result if they scrunch products in, I just get a frizzy mess if I do that. I comb it all through which pulls it straight, shake my head a tiny bit which puts the curl back in and leave it to dry.

You'll need to experiment with what ingredients your hair likes or dislikes, so you can avoid products you know won't suit it in future. I have fine hair and it hates anything with castor oil or coconut oil in, it's too heavy, but it loves aloe vera.

Don't attempt to blow-dry it without a diffuser attachment. Some people's hair looks better blow-dried and some looks better air-dried.

Interested in this, could work for my DD who has similar hair. Do you just use normal conditioner? Not a specific leave in conditioner? And you don’t rinse it out at all… does it not look greasy?

ShaunaSadeki · 16/07/2025 12:36

My hair is like this and here is what I do:

-Never brush it, except before washing
-wash and condition
-towel dry and add either serum, curl cream or hair oil (usually just Aussie or Boots due to budget)
-tie it up in a bun/pony and leave overnight or air dry
-add more product to ends between washes

and I have lovely, natural but defined waves

Normal conditioner and doesn't look greasy on my hair, no.

Thank you! Will suggest to her

Merwave not methane!! Don’t try methane!

I have tried every hair product under the sun, I’m a sucker for a new hair product and when I read Methane I was thinking ooooh I wonder how that works! 🤣

Lottapianos · 16/07/2025 12:46

'Never brush it, except before washing'

Yes,this is really important. Never ever brush curly or wavy hair when it's dry - it will ruin the natural curl / wave shape and you'll have a frizzy mess

namechangeGOT · 16/07/2025 12:47

OP, have you tried Philip Kingsley Elastisizer Extreme? A pre-shampoo conditioner, I leave it on my hair overnight and it’s wondrous. Not cheap but worth it.

teacoffeeorpassthegin · 16/07/2025 12:48

I tried curly girl over Covid times and it was awful. Hated it and cried every time I looked in the mirror! I found straightening it so much easier!!
I have a keratin treatment and that makes a huge difference

marmite2025 · 16/07/2025 12:49

I don’t do full curly girl but I wash, condition, detangle only when wet and then mousse and gel and diffuse
my hair looks like yours if I brush it

Londontown12 · 16/07/2025 13:11

U could always have a Brazilian blow dry !
This get rid of frizz and less time u need to do anything special with it
But make sure u go somewhere where they are fully knowledgeable and trained for this treatment x
