Thread title says it all! My hair is a mess - it’s frizzy and straw like and, to add insult to injury, is shedding lots. Haidresser suggested a thickening shampoo but I’m being drawn in by bloody Instagram and have browers open for Cornish Seaweed Bath Co, Champo, Kerastase etc etc. Anyone used any, recommend or don’t waste your money. Not needing Minodoxil or anything like that but just something to improve condition of hair. Thanks.

Biotin might help. Tablets to take not to apply.

Fridaynightfish · 12/07/2025 10:35

Kerastase - the resistance range works well for me when my hair is dry and damaged.

I’ve used it many times over the years - at the moment I’m using a different Kerastase range but resistance is one I go back to frequently.

rainbowunicorn · 12/07/2025 10:39

I didn't like Cornish seaweed co. It seemed okay at first but after around 4 weeks of using it I had a very waxy feeling film left on my hair after each use.

henlake7 · 12/07/2025 13:49

collagen worked for me for hair thinning.
any kind of hair oil I found the best for the frizziness (but TBH the straw texture is hard to deal with IME. My hair somehow manages to stay strawlike even when its greasy!).

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 12/07/2025 13:58

Been using Cornish Seaweed since Christmas. At first all was good but now my hair looks awful after washing so I won’t be rebuying.

Flamingmentalcats · 12/07/2025 14:30

I use Matrix Instacure shampoos conditioner. I am using the light pink bottle at the moment but the deeper link bottle is anti breakage I think and much better, I didn't have as much hair loss when using that.
Once I have finished my large bottles I am going back to that one. Just my look and look fantastic usually have good deals on it

DoreenCorkhill · 12/07/2025 14:38

Hair nails & skin jellies from B&M / Superdrug & Holland and Barrett approx £5 a month . Exactly the same ingredients as other supplements that are much more expensive ( my hairdresser suggested some that were £45 a month !) .
Get ferritin & iron levels checked if possible . I use Spatone as causes none of the ‘tummy’ issues some iron supplements can.
Less heat styling helps .
I don’t take HRT and although I experienced thinning and dryness initially it’s growing back in as are nails brows & lashes .
Shampoos- have tried various from mega pricey to supermarket not sure any made much difference .Biggest difference came with using less conditioner- hair was less weighed down not sure if just an illusion but it somehow sat better & looked thicker .
Menopause …..really sucks !

WhiskyandWater · 12/07/2025 16:01

It won’t help the shedding but will sort out the condition, olaplex 4 and 5. Just the shampoo and conditioner. My meno hair is back to how it used to be.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 12/07/2025 16:34

Be careful with Olaplex, it completely ruined my hair so much so that I had to have a load chopped off

DaisyYellowGold · 12/07/2025 16:47

I’ve been using Plantur caffeine shampoo and tonic for the last six months and have started to have lots of baby hairs coming through so I think it’s working.

Thisismynewname23 · 12/07/2025 17:20

I started using willpowders collagen and my hair and nails have both really improved they were so dry since hitting peri x

Creamteasandbumblebees · 12/07/2025 17:38

Cornish seaweed bath company has saved my hair (and skin) I've been using it for 18 months, it feels a bit strange at first as the shampoo doesn't really lather much (due to being all natural with no nasties) but leaves hair beautifully clean and no itchy or dry scalp. The conditioner is out of this world, I use it from root to tip on my fine hair and it doesn't leave it heavy or lank. My hair is so soft and amazingly conditioned with very minimal shedding and no breakage any more. I also use the heat serum, face and body oli and lip balm. I've never been so impressed with a company in my life. They do some fab deals too. They also offer a complete refund if you don't get on with it.

TootlingTia · 12/07/2025 17:38

Thanks for so many replies - much to think about. Am already on HRT and taking Collagen. Will look into Biotin. Interestingly, hairdresser said I don’t need Olaplex - does that mean I should avoid protein heavy shampoos?

I’ve closed the browser for the Cornish Seaweed comany - thank you! And am looking at Plantur and Instacure but am still quite lost re just what brand to try (have been through quite a list to date!). Waiting blood results to see what ferritin level is.

Kerastase has been good for me. The one in the pale pink bottle which is for breakage and shedding

also started taking collagen so that might be having an impact but the shampoo was immediate

Newnameformenow · 12/07/2025 17:59

I really like john frieda Pro filler range. I use the shampoo, conditioner and sometimes the spray also.
My hair goes from thin and frizzy to much more body and sleek.

Goatalone · 12/07/2025 18:04

Is the hair shedding all over?

TootlingTia · 12/07/2025 18:22

@Goatalone I think so! Is it significant? I thought it was just normal plus a bit but hairdresser remarked on it. Said there’s no loss of hair density or anything.

Okay, am falling down a Kerastase rabbit hole and am looking at the Resistance range that @Fridaynightfish mentioned and Genisis which is, I think, what you recommend @PotatoBreadForTheWin. I think I’ve seen the latter recommended on here on older threads.

Off now to check out John Frieda!

Kerastase Genesis. And Collagen. I take Willpowders.

This is the one I’m using

https://www.kerastase.co.uk/ranges/regimen/genesis/genesis-bain-hydra-fortifiant-shampoo/KER_00049.html

ive used the green resistance range in the past but I have quite fine, oily hair and the genesis range suits it better

@PotatoBreadForTheWin thank you, I think I might give it a go. Which prodicts do you use within the range?

@Creamteasandbumblebees we posted at the same time earlier and I’ve just seen your reply - sorry! That’s really interesting - I’m reading mixed reviews, most brilliant but then some from people who just don’t get on with their products .. and that’s the same for everything in life!

Still contemplating!

Jumping in this thread. Sorry! I have the same issue but also want sulphate free to protect the colour. Are these ones that have been recommended ok for dyed hair?

TootlingTia · 14/07/2025 15:59

Genesis users …. blasted price has gone up whilst I dithered overnight, typical! Cannot decide which shampoo to buy! This is what Kerastase say

Bain Nutri-Fortifiant Shampoo is meant for thick or dry hair, whereas Bain Hydra-Fotifiant Shampoo is meant for oily hair or thin hair. Bain Nutri-Fortifiant Shampoo leaves the hair looking moisturised. Both shampoos target weak hair that is prone to falling due to breakage from brushing

So my hair is fine but not greasy until about 4 days after washing .. should I just order the Nutri Fortifant for thick (it definitely isn’t!) and dry hair to deal with the frizz and hay like texture?!

Help a procastinator … please!

I use upcircle shampoo & conditioner. It is in a cream form & you need to use very little (one jar lasted me 6 months) I went from washing every second day to every four. It is designed to reduce hair loss & I definitely noticed a big difference (as did my husband who rarely notices anything).
