Work shoes/trainers that will help with Plantar Fasciitis?

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/07/2025 20:58

I am on a very tight budget but frankly will mortgage my mother if there is a decent pair that will help as I am in agony.

I work in hospitality and am on my feet all day. Up until the last 6 months I would wear running trainers as they are supportive and comfortable but now its just not enough. I am 52 if that is relevant!

Any suggestions?

Birkenstocks were a life saver for me. Definitely not cheap but helped enormously. Have a look on their website as they do a few work friendly styles other than their usual sandals

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/07/2025 21:14

I have plantar faciitis (made worse after a broken ankle).
I use skechers archfit sandals and trainers and have a pair of crocs (proper ones ) to use as slippers.

Rocknrollstar · 10/07/2025 21:16

Are you doing the exercises (google them). I found putting a pair of orthotics in my shoes helped a lot. Sit with your feet up when you can. Always wear shoes with a back.

ExpectTheWorst · 10/07/2025 21:20

After reading a top tip on here, I got gel inserts for all my shoes, and ditched the completely flat ones that I couldn't wear with the inserts ie slip ons/sandals.
It improved immediately and now, a year later, I don't have it any more. I can even wear the occasional completely flat sole with no repercussions.
The inserts were heel only gel ones, from Amazon, not fancy or expensive.

AyeDeadOn · 10/07/2025 21:21

Vionics worked so well for me.

Do all of this except the orthotics. I am trying to get help from the doctor and was dismissed I am not overweight and can walk ok. Seriously. Although presumably if I was overweight the doc would have told me to lose weight and that would cure it..... ffs.

The fact that I am in agony after a shift for several hours is not a problem.

My PF was cured in 1 acupuncture session, best £40 ever spent.

Would you mind sending me a link please?

I have looked at the various insoles and got a bit boggled as there are so many different ones that all make the same claims! As I said I am on a tight budget so dont want to waste money on something that doesnt work.

Fitflop. There's a sale on. Some styles are a bit old fashioned but several are fine.

Bexels · 10/07/2025 21:27

@ExpectTheWorst what inserts did you get please ?

Summerhillsquare · 10/07/2025 21:31

Strive shoes are amazing. Keep doing the exercises. It just spontaneously disappear s, but can reappear.

Olika · 10/07/2025 21:34

I used gel heel pads for years afterwards and never got p.f. again. I can see yogamedic has similar to what I used on Amazon. I had two pairs and I kept moving them to whatever shoes I was wearing. I wouldn’t get full foot size ones as they just take space from the shoe so then you feel like the shoes are tight all day.

Overtheatlantic · 10/07/2025 21:35

Sketchers cured mine overnight.

Lilsoph · 10/07/2025 21:45

I put the green slimflex insoles in all my shoes. I was given a pair by the podiatrist when I went to the local podiatry walk in clinic, before covid. I get mine from Algeos uk. I use a size 4 insole in all my size 5 shoes, trainers and boots as they seem to be a large fit. It may be worth trying as cheaper than new shoes.

TealReader · 10/07/2025 21:57

Anything with a thick sole and plenty support will work. Long time PF sufferer here- make sure whatever you get has ankle support or you’ll end up with Achilles tendonitis as well (I speak from bitter experience!). I wear Esskas, Teva sandals and occasional FitFlops. Any supportive trainers with a good sole and a bit of a heel toe drop will work though. What’s most important is doing the exercises, rolling the plantar fascia and never going barefoot (I wear Birkenstock slippers at home).

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/07/2025 22:03

I hate wearing anything on my feet at home! I really do! Barefoot all the time. But I have a pair of Birkies that I could wear. They are the same style as this

Going barefoot with active PF is a very bad idea. I keep my slippers by my bed and step directly into them in the morning! Mine has healed enough to allow me do my job (on my feet all day) and exercise regularly so I won’t be risking it recurring!

GalaxyStars · 11/07/2025 00:06

As a PP stated, Strive shoes have been a life saver for me. I now use their shoes, sandals and slippers and have been completely pain free for about 6 months.

edited for spelling error 😁

MumonabikeE5 · 11/07/2025 00:14

I wore adidas ultra boosts with an additional orthotic riser that helped.
but what cured it… breaking my ankle and severely spraining two ligaments. I was forced to my bed for 3 weeks, and then 6 weeks no load bearing. Followed by 3 months of very limited walking- 1-2km max. I broke it in April, and could say in October that it felt better, and by December I realised I didn’t have plantar fasciitis anymore.

id had it for five years, but this enforced rest was they only thing that solved it for me.

PoisedMauveRobot · 11/07/2025 00:24

Kinesiology Tape applied correctly was instant relief for me. My wife and I watched some videos and downloaded plans for where the tapes went and why and then got it right first time, last for about 2~3 showers.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/07/2025 06:01

Superfeet insoles (the green ones; different colours do different things).
Lots of calf raises.
Lace up ankle boots (Solovair) or trainers.

aGirlLikeJesamine · 11/07/2025 06:02

you can buy a insole from boots
fixes things

£8 plantar fasciitis insoles available online in every pair of shoes and Fitflops sandals (the only shoes I couldn't put insoles in) really helped me with the pain and to get over it.

spoonbillstretford · 11/07/2025 06:27
