Too white for a wedding?

I’m going to a friend’s wedding in Spain in September and really like This dress

It’ll probably be too warm to add a jacket/cardigan in another colour to break it up.
It’s obviously not a wedding dress but is it too white to wear?

OP posts:

Not at all. There's definitely enough pattern and colour to not get you in trouble.

It's a lovely dress. If only I had better upper arms.....!

Wear it and enjoy 😍

puddlegoose · 30/06/2025 22:21

Too much white for me, I’m afraid!

PermanentTemporary · 30/06/2025 22:21

Looks fine, and I’m quite strict about wedding guest wear.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 30/06/2025 22:24

It's fine, I'd wear that to a wedding

I don't know what would be considered suitable for a Spanish wedding, but this looks more like a summer, picnic dress than something for a wedding guest. I've spend some time there and people tend to dress for the season, rather than the weather. Eg in Sept, people will be wearing Autumn type clothing, even if the temp is roasting hot for you. If majority of guests aren't Spanish, then ignore that.

If the ceremony is in a church there though, you should cover your shoulders!

In my experience ( seeing them while living there and going to them) Spanish weddings tend to be a lot more formal than ours so you might feel out of place in the dress for that reason.

How long ago were you there? I ask because, for reasons I forget, I was recently looking at pictures of Spanish people getting married in Spain (Spanish language media). I was struck by differences in wedding guest style pre- and post-pandemic. Women's dress definitely became less structured, with plenty of billowing print numbers like OP's choice.

Weddings and guests still vary, of course, as they do here.

That's looks appropriate for a beach, not a wedding

In what way does that look like a beach dress 🙄

Well it looks cotton and has fruit on it for a start, I'd wear this on holiday in Bali or something. Not sure what kind if weddings you go to, but the ones I've been to people actually dress up ... because it's a wedding!

That is awful and shapeless, such wishy washy colours

MayaPinion · 01/07/2025 07:38

In a world where there are millions of non white dresses suitable for weddings, why would you pick one you’re so unsure of that you need to ask Mumsnet? Even if it’s not bridal, it could still be construed as competing with the bride.

greengreyblue · 01/07/2025 07:39

Not at all. It’s not white. It’s cream and flowery.

I'm not disagreeing, it was just on the same page as OPs dress. It at least looks a bit "dressy"

It looks like an old-fashioned shower curtain!

Maybe my grandmothers bedspread! 🙃

Guavafish1 · 01/07/2025 07:48

Nice … looks cream and will be nice in Spain

TubeScreamer · 01/07/2025 07:52

Green and cream - not too white at all.
possibly not formal enough?

Not even fully cotton. It's one of those polycotton horrors. 40% polyester.

It's very expensive for the cheap fabric that it is. It's the kind of dress I would wear as an every day dress or for a day out. I wouldn't wear that to a wedding.

PopeJoan2 · 01/07/2025 08:02

It’s gorgeous. Wear it.

user2848502016 · 01/07/2025 08:06

It’s absolutely fine, not bridal at all. I don’t know where this trend for not wearing any white at all to weddings has come from - it’s a bit ridiculous

cannynotsay · 01/07/2025 08:07

me bother married into a Spanish family, the way they dress, this dress is was too casual. I’d look for something more formal. It’s too casual.

Mctm · 01/07/2025 09:07

I think it's probably fine for a wedding as I don't think you will be competing with the bride but I personally would feel uncomfortable wearing any white to a wedding, I'd just be too paranoid all day. I think if you're also questioning it then you may feel the same

OhHellolittleone · 01/07/2025 09:27

Do you know the bride? ‘I always do this just in case! I know everyone’s vision for their wedding is different! I’m thinking of this dress, if it doesn’t fit your style or clashes please can you let me know?’
