Too white for a wedding?

MumbleJumble123 · 30/06/2025 22:18

I’m going to a friend’s wedding in Spain in September and really like This dress

It’ll probably be too warm to add a jacket/cardigan in another colour to break it up.
It’s obviously not a wedding dress but is it too white to wear?

OP posts:

Not even fully cotton. It's one of those polycotton horrors. 40% polyester.

It's very expensive for the cheap fabric that it is. It's the kind of dress I would wear as an every day dress or for a day out. I wouldn't wear that to a wedding.

Edited

I was shocked to see the price! Ita an OK dress, but nothing special (even for a beach holiday)

In what way does that look like a beach dress 🙄

Yes, that was a very silly comment. It's fine for a wedding.

This looks more appropriate for a wedding

If anything that looks more like a beach throw on.

ToadRage · 01/07/2025 10:15

Its beautiful and ideal for a summer wedding, if you did want to add anything maybe a light pretty headscarf or hat in one of the pattern colours to bring it out.

In a world where there are millions of non white dresses suitable for weddings, why would you pick one you’re so unsure of that you need to ask Mumsnet? Even if it’s not bridal, it could still be construed as competing with the bride.

Completely agree with @MayaPinion

Just why would you choose a white / cream dress for a wedding? There are literally millions of other colour options to pick from.

I'm not disagreeing, it was just on the same page as OPs dress. It at least looks a bit "dressy"

Nothing like op dress

Nothing like op dress

Yeah that's the point!

Inthesmallclouds · 01/07/2025 10:54

Only on MN are people obsessed with a perfectly normal guest dress being too white

ZiggyPlaysGuitarrr · 01/07/2025 10:57

I really like the dress and it isn't remotely bridal.

However, if it's hot you won't want to be in polycotton, it's overpriced for polycotton, and it's possibly a bit on the casual side, depending on the type of wedding.

Skissors · 01/07/2025 11:02

Looks fine. There's a lot of orange and green in there.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 01/07/2025 11:37

NeedZzzzzssss · 01/07/2025 10:50

Yeah that's the point!

It's considerably less "dressy" than the OP's dress

Christwosheds · 01/07/2025 11:41

manicmummyoftwo · 30/06/2025 22:20

Not at all. There's definitely enough pattern and colour to not get you in trouble.

It's a lovely dress. If only I had better upper arms.....!

Wear it and enjoy 😍

Agree ! Solid white obviously a no, but a coloured print on a white ground is fine. There is no way anyone would mistake you for the bride.

We can agree to disagree. A dress with a fruit print should not really worn anywhere, but if you must a beach and a BBQ are the only places

Ah sorry OP, I tend to agree. If you have to ask, it’s too white. I wouldn’t wear that to a wedding. Also agree that it really is too casual for a Spanish wedding. Fruit print is daytime picnic/beach/bbq wear. Plus polyester mix…

NashEnquirer · 01/07/2025 13:12

Lots of S&B bingo on here 🤣

I like it, OP!

Ninkynonkpinkyponks · 01/07/2025 13:14

Absolutely fine

Civilservant · 01/07/2025 13:16

Not at all bridal or ‘too white’

MissBridgetJones · 01/07/2025 13:32

I'm a stickler for wedding ettiquette... this is absolutely fine x

What a load of nonsense.

In what world would it look like they were competing with the bride?!

It’s not white, not remotely bridal looking and has fruit all over it?

FWIW, I don’t like the dress and sure you’d find something much nicer.

People are so weird on these wedding posts. Think they just make half these ‘rules’ up!

Peclet · 01/07/2025 14:24

Too casual IMO

Flamingoknees · 01/07/2025 14:31

It's not white, it's cream with a coloured pattern. Colour wise it's fine.
It does, however, have strong Nana's kitchen roller blind vibes. Very strong.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2025 14:36

I don’t think it’s too white, I do think it’s too casual.

Topseyt123 · 01/07/2025 15:25

I like it. It's perfect for a wedding in a hot country.

Don't listen to any bollocks about it competing with the bride. It doesn't. Not even close.

Just came on to say this, lol. Op, it’s fine - nice colours - you can dress that up with accessories, etc.
