Mascara - the eternal hunt for a good one...

I never seem to be able to find the perfect mascara.

Recent attempts have been the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk one which goes on beautifully - better than any others I've tried - but am so disappointed that it ends up sitting under my eyes accentuating my wrinkles/under eye bags within an hour of putting it on.

Have also used the Estee Lauder Double Wear one which is the opposite - it's such a pain to try to put it on without it going all clumpy but once it's one it does stay put.

Any suggestions for any others to try?

I’m pretty sure we established about 35 years ago that Maybelline New York is the best mascara 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sweed lash lift if your lashes are short and stubby. I get loads from different beauty boxes but I’ve been very impressed with this one.

I went to Japan recently and bought heroine long and curl mascara, it’s brill. You can get it online thankfully (although Japan is definitely worth visiting)

I also really like the Tarte tubing one

Bobbi Brown No Smudge mascara is my go to. I've tried others but none stay, this one stays on even when I'm in water.

Elf Lash 'n Roll mascara is great if you like a separating mascara - as good as higher end ones I've tried

See I tried this as my favorite mascara is benefit roller lash and the Elf one is flakey and smudges, no comparison to the Benefit one.

Another vote for Elf tubing mascara, was using Double Wear but the Elf one is much better

Nestle owns 20% or L'oreal who owns Lancome.

Is this sufficient to boycott? I do boycott Nestle so not sure if I'm crossing the line here

My two favourites are..

Cheap - Maybelline Sky High

More £ - Benefit Roller Lash

My criteria is how it goes on, it has to be non-irritating to my eyes, the wand has to be right, no clumps or smudges and it has to wash off easily.

Buy Maybelline Sky High from Savers, it’s about £8 instead of £12.

Edited

I agree, Maybelline Sky High is my fave. And cheap!

It’s enough for me! Don’t want to be feeding their profits by any means.

Thanks very much for all the suggestions, much appreciated!

Lancome is good but they do test on animals still which is a shame. I'm going to try the Aldi one as they are cruelty free.

I got a mini Clarins mascara in a “gift with purchase” bag and am surprised at just how good it is. It’s tiny so very handy for my very small everyday crossbody bag.
Chanel Le Volume is brilliant. But £££s ☹️

ZenNudist · 23/06/2025 08:43

I used to use Dior but have discovered Maybelline sky high and now always use that

HÆLTHEPAIN · 23/06/2025 16:43

Another vote for Maybelline Sky High. I thought the Lancôme Hypnôse was shit.

@RaraRachael the maybelline bubble
mascara is really good. It thickens, separates and appears to lengthen lashes.
it’s not clumpy, it’s stays where you put it and the waterproof one is bomb proof. It lasted a full shower after a swim

Thank you! I'll try this!
I have incredibly smudgy eyes, not just for mascara but even eyeshadow and pencil will leave little panda rings. Even hypnose does this to me. I find tubing mascara gives me a very subtle result - not what I want!

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 23/06/2025 18:00

My eye with the MCo Lash Xtend tubing mascara.
