Mascara - the eternal hunt for a good one...

I never seem to be able to find the perfect mascara.

Recent attempts have been the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk one which goes on beautifully - better than any others I've tried - but am so disappointed that it ends up sitting under my eyes accentuating my wrinkles/under eye bags within an hour of putting it on.

Have also used the Estee Lauder Double Wear one which is the opposite - it's such a pain to try to put it on without it going all clumpy but once it's one it does stay put.

Any suggestions for any others to try?

I prefer supporting companies that don’t poison babies in the pursuit of profit.

What do you mean?

analyseyourdaydreams · 21/06/2025 20:33

I used to love Clinique Naturally Glossy mascara, but it's been discontinued. It didn't irritate my eyes, stayed put and did what it said on the tin - wasn't dramatic, just "my lashes but better". Any dupe suggestions gratefully received!

Aldi Lacura, it's as good as any premium brand, if not better x

Elf tubing mascara. It’s brilliant. It does not budge all day

I second this. As a contact lens wearer my mascara always smudges under my eyes but Elf tubing is the first I've ever found that stays put.

FuriousInventions · 21/06/2025 20:40

Either Maybelline Sky High or L’Oreal Panorama. I have super oily lashes and eyelids, neither of these slide off under my eyes and both are pretty cheap.

annaspanner18 · 21/06/2025 21:06

I ditched Lancôme hypnose after years of using it and finding it all under my eyes. I’m now on Bobbi Brown no smudge (in the silver tube) and love it

I thought the body shop was off the nestle list now. I hope so!

Nestle have been breaching the international baby milk code for decades by sending their reps into developing countries dressed as nurses and telling new mothers that formula is better for their babies than breast milk. They give free samples - enough to last until their milk dries up - and then they’re forced to buy formula they can’t afford and this often leads to starvation. Some gets made up with unclean water which makes the babies ill and can cause death.

They also flout formula advertising rules.

There’s been an active boycott since 1977.

Lancôme hypnose or definicil if you want something very subtle. Non-waterproof. Never smears, comes off with normal face washing, doesn’t flake or tube, nothing else comes close.

fetachocolate · 21/06/2025 21:19

Elf Lash 'n Roll mascara is great if you like a separating mascara - as good as higher end ones I've tried

They own them. So they make money from them

deeahgwitch · 21/06/2025 21:46

I didn’t know that @AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti
Thank you for informing me. 💐

One of my dds has introduced me to Maybelline Sky High as I don't want to look like a panda at ds's upcoming wedding if (when) I blub. I wore it to a Zumba Aqua class as an experiment and it stayed put!

londongirl12 · 21/06/2025 21:55

I use the Elf lash and roll. I got soaked today in a water fight with my son, and it barely moved!

27pilates · 21/06/2025 22:12

Tarte/Tartelette tubing mascara. Expensive but doesn’t budge.

Soulstirring · 21/06/2025 22:15

Lancôme hypnose drama, been my got to for 15 years. Every now and again i try to save ££ but always go back. Amazing stuff

RedBeech · 21/06/2025 22:19

I've recently started using Rimmel Glam Eyes. It has two ways of opening it - one for thickness and one for length. the length option gives the most gorgeous feathery delicate coating and never ever clumps. It looks very natural but really adds length to the lashes. The thickness option is a bit sticky so I rarely use it. But if I do I just switch to the length to comb out the extra mascara. Doesn't smudge. Seems to be waterproof. Comes off easily. I love it. Only £7.99 and better than anything I have ever tried before.

Vitrolinsanity · 21/06/2025 19:41

Maybelline Sky High

I have tried every mascara on Mother Earth.

This is cheap as chips and stays all day.

I used to use this for years and agree it is really good. But recently switched to Rimmel Glam which imo is even better. And I loved the Maybelline.

Rina66 · 22/06/2025 04:49

The Perfect by Beauty Pie, very waterproof, holds a curl in your lashes and great curved brush so you can get right to the root. I do like Lancôme too, but Beauty Pue is better for every day.

Buxusmortus · 22/06/2025 05:05

Ladybyrd · 21/06/2025 17:37

Lancôme hypnose. I wouldn’t waste my money experimenting with anything else not even Lancôme products (I found their doll eyes mascara awful).

Totally agree. It's the best. I've tried loads over the decades( I'm early 60s), lots of recommended ones in papers, magazines and on here, none of them are a patch on hypnose. Plus it comes in a very good brown as well as black.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 22/06/2025 05:29

Prime Lash Mascara UK.

Only available online. A tubing mascara that does not budge. Not clumpy, flaky or sticky. I’ve been buying it for several years.

BoudiccaRuled · 22/06/2025 05:45

Max Factor 1000 Calorie is the best I've tried.
Better than Lancôme Hypnose by a country mile on my stubby excuses for eyelashes.
