Yes. I love it ! The skirt on its own with a white t-shirt is fab too.

I would wear silver ballet pumps or Mary Janes or kitten heels.

MissSookieStackhouse · 11/06/2025 23:57

It doesn’t look like a dress for a black tie event to me. Not formal enough. Black tie usually means more of a cocktail dress or even a long evening dress. This is more of a day dress.

waltzingparrot · 11/06/2025 23:59

I don't think that's a 'Black Time' dress I'm afraid. Too informal.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 12/06/2025 01:13

There's black tie and black tie- the wording actually covers quite a number of bases. As long as it's dressy, in a silky/ satiny material the shoes are obviously evening shoes there's plenty of scope.

SilverCoins · 12/06/2025 01:23

It's styled quite casually in the photos but as a two piece with metallic shoes and clutch I think it would work especially the material up close - I'd be thinking sort of 1950s cocktail vibe.

Black tie wedding outfit

No, having been to many black tie events this would not quite fit the criteria in my eyes.

Having been to many black tie events, I disagree.

jenny77 · 12/06/2025 08:48

My plan was silver heels and clutch. I have quite a big bust and am 47. Not comfortable with sleeveless.

No, this isn’t a dress for a black tie event. Also, I’d say it’s a dress for the summer anyway and not autumn

Needlesnah · 12/06/2025 09:21

I personally don’t think this is black tie. A nice meal out maybe. But then I can’t stand those sleeves, so maybe I’m biased (that style is like everything I had to wear during my pregnancies…)

JDM625 · 12/06/2025 09:23

No, its not black tie.

Have you considering hiring a dress?

Yes - as you say + with appropriate hair/make-up and jewellery.

I can imagine Betty Draper wearing it.

jenny77 · 12/06/2025 09:40

I like it’s vintage look. Might order and see what it’s like in the flesh. The wedding is October (not late Autumn as i previously stated) it could still be quite nice weather then.

The model has a very different shape to me!

That's not black tie.

SilverCoins · 12/06/2025 10:03

Like PP said, there's black tie and there's black tie. I've been to events labelled black tie where this would be completely appropriate, and I've been to others where its all long evening dresses. Honestly, only you know the bridal couple and where their expectations lie, or even if they are high maintenance about these things.

It reminds me of a black tie wedding I went to years ago, where a friend came in a 60s style mini dress covered in those iridescent, hugely oversized sequins - she looked phenomenal and not in any way out of place.

Mulledjuice · 12/06/2025 10:16

Yes see how it looks on. It would not be elegant on me but I'm like a dropped lasagne round the middle just now!

Well the event is from early afternoon so i am thinking that might mean that it doesn’t mean evening wear but more cocktail dresses? I have never been to a black tie event before though.

A black tie event requires an evening dress

beachcitygirl · 12/06/2025 12:48

beau but far too casual. Not black tie

MulberryPeony · 12/06/2025 12:49

For an afternoon black-tie wedding, yes absolutely suitable.

Drivingmissrangey · 12/06/2025 12:51

OP I think it’s too informal for black tie. The top could go with jeans, and the skirt could go with a t shirt therefore I think both pieces are quite casual. Just putting them together is not formal enough in my view.

Needlesnah · 12/06/2025 13:02

OP have a look at where is it being held. Black tie doesn’t mean cocktail, although people do it. But if it’s being held somewhere like the savoy/dorchester etc then it’s definitely not suitable. If it’s being held somewhere more like a smart country house/pub (for instance) then I think it will probably be fine.

That’s a good call. It has columns.
